ARVIND SHARMA Jammu, Mar 25: Amid noisy and uproarious scenes in the Legislative Assembly (LA), the members from both treasury benches and the opposition today strongly con- demned the “Hindu Speaker” remarks which were allegedly made in the house yesterday. Earlier, right from the very beginning of the Question Hour, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) members lodged a strong protest in the house against the remarks made by Javed Rana and demanded that he should be disqualified. “The remarks that the Speaker is Hindu and is not giving us sufficient time, are not acceptable, and as such, they must be expunged and the member be disqualified”, the agitating BJP members includ- ing Sat Sharma, Rajesh Gupta, Neelam Langeh, Dina Nath Bhagat, Shakti Parihar, Dilip Parihar and others demanded. “Whosoever is elected is neither Hindu nor Muslim, and therefore, we should not talk on these lines”, the BJP members said. MY Tarigami also con- demned the remarks and demanded that they should be expunged. “Such things shouldn’t come in house regardless of the complaints which we may have”, he said. Nazir Gurezi also said, “Talking against you Speak- er is wrong”. Amid chaotic scenes, the Speaker, Kavinder Gupta also intervened and told the members that these things should not happen again. “We are all friends and should work together”, he said. The remarks were also condemned by Naeem Akhter, AR Veeri and Lal Singh. Later, the pandemonium was again witnessed in the house during discussion on grants, when Javed Rana referred to RSS, and alleged the PDP-BJP coalition gov- ernment of a sell-out to it. “We will, under no circumstances, allow the PDP-BJP to implement the agenda of RSS”, Rana said. This once again agitated the BJP members who lodged a strong protest in the house. Chaotic scenes erupted in the house when Rana, during discussion on grants, while referring to PDP, said, “You sold JK to RSS, you sold the interests of people of the state to RSS”. The BJP members including Ravinder Raina, Sat Sharma, Neelam Langeh, Dina Nath Bhagat, Shakti Parihar, Dilip Parihar, Devinder Manyal, Rajesh Gupta and others lodged their strong objection over this. “RSS is a nationalist organ- isation, and it is better that we should talk about develop- ment and people’s issues in the house”, Raina said. Upon this the Speaker, Kavinder Gupta also told Javed Rana, “You abused me yesterday but I still accom- modated and cooperated with you, but it seems that you are interested in wast- ing the time of the house. This will not be allowed”. JK govt mulls revamp of State Drug Corporation Quality healthcare top priority: Lal Singh YOGESH SAGOTRA Jammu, Mar 25: To bring transparency and account- ability in the ailing health sector Jammu and Kashmir Government is mulling the revamp of State Drug Cor- poration. The move is aimed to streamline the health care system across the state and also to plug the loopholes that lead to the supply of spurious drugs . “My mission is to change the existing health care system into quality health care system. I will leave no stone unturned to accom- plish this mission. It doesn’t matter even if I would have to work overtime to do it,” J&K’s Health Minis- ter Chaudhary Lal Singh told Greater Kashmir in an exclusive chat. He said first and foremost job for him is to revamp the Drug Corporation. “The mess lies here,” Singh said. “Quality healthcare remains on top priority of my agenda”. Lal Singh further said, “Revamping of Drug Cor- poration would ultimately help curb the trade of spuri- ous drugs in the state run hospitals, ”he said. “After streamlining the sale and distribution, the next prior- ity will be to start the treat- ment of ailing health sector at district level.” He said that dis- trict hospitals would be equipped to take care of patients on its own “so that number of referral cases goes down”. “For this the district hos- pitals across the state would be equipped with required infrastructures and man- power in coming days”, he added. “This will also improve the standard of our medical education and research at premier institutions,” he added. On alarmingly low Doctor- Patient ratio in the state run hospital, he said, “Over 700 sanctioned posts of doctor lies with Public Service Commission and will be filled soon”. He also said that the government is mulling the transfer of the doctors, who completed their tenure in urban areas to various dis- trict hospitals to streamline the health care. PDP sold ideology for power: Sagar ABID BASHIR Jammu, Mar 25: Accusing PDP of selling its ideology for power, National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar Wednesday said the government was trying to muzzle the voice of opposition by not allowing its leaders to raise the genuine issues. Sagar also sought reason from the PDP-BJP government as to why Government of India was delaying the release of Rs 44000 crore package for the flood hit victims of the state. Speaking on the cut-motions in the Legislative Assembly, Sagar said it seems that the gov- ernment has made up its mind not to allow the opposition to raise the issues related to public. The NC leader said when the deluge struck Kashmir last year, Prime Minister Narendera Modi had even claimed extending helping hand to Pakistan admin- istered Kashmir. “It has been almost six months, this part of Kashmir is yet to get flood relief let alone PaK,” Sagar said. “We want to know from the govern- ment as to why there is no time frame on the rehabilitation of flood hit victims of the State.” Sagar said the government tried to give a political colour to a human tragedy. “We know that PDP has sold its ideology for power. But now it’s high time to give compensation to the flood hit victims especially the busi- ness community,” said the NC legislator from Khanyar Assembly segment.
