COVID CARE AND
TREATMENT CENTRE
SHANTHIMALAI TRUST
TOUCH A LIFE. GIVE HOPE TO MANY
SRI RAMANA MAHARISHI MULTICARE HOSPITALATHIYANDAL VILLAGE, TIRUVANNAMALAI, TAMIL NADU, INDIA
The sad plight
As all the hospitals in the town were flooded with COVID
patients, with at least 1 dying every 3 hours, Emayan’s health
deteriorated and he was rushed to the Government Hospital in
Tiruvannamalai. That night as he lay on the floor with his oxygen
mask, an old woman was rushed in and laid next to him in the
floor. Her oxygen level had dropped to 65, the health workers
pulled off Emayan’s oxygen mask leaving him frantically gasping
for breath just to save the dying woman. When he confronted the
health workers they said “Yours oxygen level is 85 and her’s
is 65” The old woman died in a few hours and the oxygen mask
was later given back to Emayan.
No beds in the hospital
This is the sad plight of every patient in the hospital now. There are no oxygen cylinders and patients
are losing their lives right in front their families. The pain and agony is excruciating. People’s hopes are
dwindling and the air is filled with fear and despair.
Crisis
Tiruvannamalai is one of the worst COVID hit towns in Tamil Nadu. Over 20% of the local population
has been tested positive so far. The death rate is increasing at an alarming rate, and many families are
struggling hard to save their loved ones. The Government is working on war footing to save the people,
but the efforts are futile with the very little resources available for such a vast population. Government
is reaching out to private hospitals and NGOs to support them in this critical situation. A dedicated
COVID CARE HEALTH CENTRE is the most urgent need of the hour. It is highly unbearable to see
people getting sick every day and dying right in front of our eyes.
