M e s s a g e f r o m t h e P r i n c i p a l We have come to the end of assessment week for years 7-10. This means every year group has now finished their Autumn 2 exams. Well done to all of you for the effort you put in and the maturity you showed lining up and being quiet as you entered the hall. For Key Stage 3 students this may have been the first time you’ve taken a test in real exam conditions. Beginning to learn the correct procedure for sitting formal exams will stand you in good stead for when you take your GCSEs in year 11. Next week we will be back to normal lessons, but you still need to remember your APA 10-a-day to make sure you’re fully prepared for all your lessons. I hope you all enjoy your long weekend and come back refreshed for the week ahead. n: Year 9&10 As we move towards the end

of the term and realise that there are only just over 3 weeks before Christmas, (behind on the Christmas shopping again!), well done to the following students who have achieved the greatest number of achievement points throughout the Year so far. Well done on this

excellent achievement. Congratulations to the following students:

As we come to the end of your first assessment week at the Academy I hope you have all done yourself proud and tried your best in all of your assessments. Not only have these been an opportunity for you to show how much progress you are making but it is a chance to practise going into and being in

the hall as you will for your GCSE’s at the end of year 11. Some of you didn’t get this quite right, I hope you now know how to conduct yourself properly in preparation for these exams. Your teachers will be working hard to get these marked but bear in mind that the whole school has sat assessments so it will take some time to work out your level, please don’t ask your teachers for these, they will pass them on when they are complete. This week also saw the green light given for a DISCO for all of year 7 and 8 just before we break up for Christmas. Details and a poster are also in this newsletter so look out for it as all the details are on there. The school council will be coming around next week selling tickets during afternoon tutor time, they will be £2, don’t forget to bring in some money!

I’m pleased to report that our pillar point leader board is seeing some new names emerging, although Louise (Commitment, Independence and Effort) and Alex P (Community and Teamwork) still dominate, Tyrese Fearon is now joint leader with Alex for teamwork points and Vriddhi, Sila and Christopher all share the lead for Enthusiasm points. It is still very competitive at the top of all the leader boards so keep doing everything you can to earn those points, they will help you achieve your target grades as well as get rewards throughout the year.Well done to Shannon Collen-Broome, Christopher Parish, Max Rowley, Maham Saleem, Shannelle Dixon, Alexandre Gallimore, Tia Josiah, Molly Walker Dowell, Zhane-Goldie Hurdle, Kyran Taylor and Rochelle Smith who have started to improve their attendance and move closer to that magic number of 96% which represents the amount of time we must spend in school to allow us to reach or achieve above our target grade. Also huge congratulations to the thirty three students who are still on 100% attendance for the year, this is an impressive number and is over a third of the year group, keep going, especially now when we all start feel tired and unwell with the cold weather. Even if you feel a little unwell once we are up and in the swing of a day in school we often feel much better. This week’s star of the week goes to a young lady who like last week’s winner has been quietly getting it right since September and she is someone who has an exemplary attendance and punctuality record and is clearly getting it right in lessons as she has collected over forty positive points, well done Mia Tickel, a deserving winner of the queue jump pass, come and collect it from the head of year office on Monday. After revising and working hard this week, make sure you reward yourself by relaxing and doing the things that make you happy this weekend, make use of a three day weekend while your teachers mark your assessments!

School AnnouncementsTakeover Day

Last Friday, three Dickens House captains (and a rogue Turing House captain) went to Wandsworth Town Hall to take part in an event called ‘Takeover’ Day. Our students joined other students from Wandsworth Schools in shadowing decision makers for the day. Teon Piedade spent the day shadowing Hollis Blake, the Wandsworth youth work and crime prevention manager for Roehampton. Daniel Edgely shadowed Santino Fragola, head of lifelong learning and apprenticeships. All four students followed their designated decision maker for the day and took part in consultations and meetings. Davy said the day was enjoyable because he got to ask questions about why he thought young people commit crime and what is being done to prevent this. A particularly interesting meeting was when they discussed the gang prevention strategy for the borough. Well done to all four students for taking part.Daniel EdgelyLukasz LaskowskiTeon PiedadeDavy Fortes

On Thursday 26th November the under 14 girls football team travelled to Southfields for the annual AFC Wimbledon tournament. After the friendly game on Tuesday the girls were keen to build on the experience and take their football to the next level. Throughout the day the team grew in confidence and skill and were giving teams a good battle in what on lookers commented on being a tournament of extremely high standard. The year 7 girls in the team were actually some of the more experienced footballers and this showed in their composure on the ball, both Leia Sheerin and Nicol Ramos making great contributions in midfield. The defence was secured by Amiya Williams of year 8 who made sure that the other team could not score easy goals. With more time spent training together as a team, it is only a matter of time until the girls taste success on the football pitch. The full squad as follows: Amiya Williams, Nicol Ramos, Zoshea Dacres, Aaliah Manuk, Leia Sheerin, Zhane Hurdle, Emily Efiomayi and Amy Laylah Brewer

Last Tuesday the year 12 & 13 Sociology students went on Karl Marx walking tour of London. We were shown the places he lived, and the bars that he held his meetings in which were all in and around London. We were guided by a very intelligent man called Heiko who is currently studying for a PHD in Chinese Economics and the influence of Marxism.
