We're celebrating and you're invited to join us. We're helping SafeKids Mid-South commemorate 20 years of growing safe kids in Memphis and the surrounding areas. As a parent, one of the most important

duties is to keep your child safe, and we're committed to assisting parents with this very important goal. Join us as we present a special presentation of 9-1-1 Good Sense in a Pinch program and meet Fire Safe Frannie as you take a tour of our very own 36 ft. Fire Safety Trailer. Bring a safety tip that you and your family practice to post on our Kid's Share Board to help keep other children safe and receive a prize from Ronald McDonald. Play our "What If" game to see if your child knows what to do if ever in an unsafe situation. And don't forget to pick up information about Internet safety, bicycle safety, seat belt safety and more from over 20 other organizations who are also committed to keeping children safe. Look forward to seeing you there.

SafeKidsSafety Day Celebration

Saturday, January 12, 11am-2pm

A Celebration Fit for a KingMonday, January 21

10am-1pmDr. Martin Luther King, Jr. took a courageous stand for unity and equality for all people. Following the non-violent teachings of Gandhi, Dr. King's example of peaceful demonstrations made a powerful impact on the fight for civil rights. Join us as we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Day. Visitors will enjoy making crafts to commemorate the day, decorating squares of hope to be added to our ever-growing peace quilt. In addition, take part in the largest balloon release of hope while two doves of peace are being released into the air. Enjoy local artists as they create King works of art before your very eyes and you surely don't want to miss the special presentations of Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech and William Herbert Brewster's "I Am Determined to Be Somebody Someday" by Jauffi Parker and Kinara Parker, both students from Freedom Preparatory Academy. It's more than a celebration of fun; it's a celebration of meaning and purpose. Entries will be on exhibit from our Dear Dr. King - Kid's Dream Project from area students and schools in the Memphis and surrounding areas.

Parent/Child Workshop with Mrs. Sew & Sew

Saturday, January 26, 1pm-2pm$20 per project

Everybody has a special garment of clothing that holds memories that are close to the heart. What do you do with the items that your child has outgrown but you can’t bear to part with? Or that special gift that was

given by a parent or grandparent who is no longer with you? What about that special wedding gown or prom dress or the shirt or t-shirt of your

favorite team? You and your child can bring an article of clothing and its memories to this workshop and hand stitch it into something new. Make

That's a Wrap!Special Events

at CMOM

In November, museum guests enjoyed CMOM’s Holiday Extravaganza. Children were able to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, and tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas. The Collierville Ballet performed excerpts from The Nutcracker. Guests

posed for pictures with the Mouse King and the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Everyone was treated to two performances of Christmas carols by the Christ the King Bell Choir. And Magic Mr. Nick enthralled and delighted the kids with his balloon animals.

At the beginning of December, there were four Gingerbread Fantasy workshops to get visitors into the holiday spirit. Families were able to decorate their own gingerbread

house, and enjoyed putting their unique twist on their gingerbread houses. Those attending the workshop also listened to The Gingerbread Boy story and sang Christmas carols. Santa even stopped by for a visit! Everyone enjoyed this fun and tasty family bonding activity and was able to take their yummy creation home, along with a goodie bag. The upcoming weeks and months will bring more exciting events to CMOM. 7

There are no blue Mondays at The Children’s Museum of Memphis. We’ve got the cure for you and your toddler to start the week off with a party! It’s a Spanish Fiesta (La Fiesta con Burbujita). This new toddler program is designed to introduce your little one and you into the wonderful world of Spanish. The party will begin with basic Spanish words and phrases that can be used in everyday conversation. It’s easier than you think and so much fun too. Classes will be taught by our newest educator, Monica Sanchez, but don’t be surprised if Dora or Diego shows up to help out. Hurry and sign up today; small class sizes and spaces are limited. Call (901) 458-2678, ext. 221 for more details.
