The Spa Soirée is an industry networking mixer that brings together spa-goers, the spa industry, and business professionals alike, for an evening of mingling and fun.

Started in the Hamptons in April 2013, the gathering invites local spa, beauty, wellness and hospitality professionals to network with leading brand representatives and press. Since the success of the first Spa Soirée, the event has expanded into other cities and locations. The event attracts the industry’s best from top spas and brands around the world.

The Spa Soirée ser ies of networking events was founded by Laura Anne Pelliccio and Jessica Mackin.

Born and raised in Westchester, Laura Anne Pelliccio is a NYS Licensed Aesthetician, spa expert and seasoned columnist. Pelliccio critiques topics pertaining to the overall spa, beauty and wellness industry. She spent seven years as the Senior Head Aesthetician and Spa Manager for Equinox Fitness and Spa. She then managed two of the largest spa destinations in New York. First, The Plaza Spa & Fitness Center in The Plaza Hotel while consulting through its renovation period. Following

The Plaza, Pelliccio managed The Ocean View Salon in the Seawater Spa at Gurney's Inn in Montauk.

Laura is well-rounded in ground level star t -up spa operations, overall spa management, treatment room services, and profitable spa development, but her marketing skills are what bring her creativity out.

With this, she has been able to make appearances on news interviews, radio segments and has landed spots on reality TV. Pelliccio now resides in East Hampton.

Jessica Mackin is from East Hampton and currently lives in Manhattan. She is the Arts Editor and Associate Publisher of The Independent Newspaper and the Editor in Chief of Hampton Daze Magazine. Mackin has been involved in special event planning for the past five years. She is also an avid spa-goer and loves to report on all of her spa experiences. She feels that the Spa Soirée is a great opportunity for the spa industry to meet, network and mingle in a fun environment.

passionate volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Frank Basile, invited me to Macy’s in West Nyack, to be part of a wish come true for a young girl who has won her battle with a rare type of cancer. It was a rewarding experience to be among the family, friends, foundation volunteers and Macy’s employees watching the transformation to an even more beautiful 17-year-old girl.

With this experience, I had the pleasure of meeting makeup artist, Ali Perretz who said, “I was truly honored and so excited that I was

I have been fortunate to team up with two of Westchester’s renowned designers, Jesus and Antonio Estrada. They keep me fashionable in their custom, couture des igns f o r a l l my appearances.

Mayra, what made you decide

to enter the beauty pageant

industry?For me, it was an

opportunity to project myself and let people get to know who I am. Born in Ecuador and raised in America,

this industry helped me grow as an individual and gain greater confidence being in front of big audiences. Over time, the pageant industry opened up different avenues to be involved in public relations and community affairs.

It must feel special to shine and be embraced by so

many people, tell us what we don’t know about what

is expected of being the 2014 Miss Westchester:It’s humbling to receive special

recognition from many people throughout this experience of holding the title as “Miss Westchester.” However, it is more than just a title, it is a title that comes with many obligations and responsibilities to fulfill. What I feel that people do not know is that you can hold a title like this and still hold a career. Although it is hard work, it is not impossible. I have learned with this experience to manage my time and plan more effectively.

What type of profession do you work in?

I am currently a full time math teacher in a public high school in Westchester County.

What was your final Question and Answer

before being crowned?The question was, “What do

you see yourself doing in five years from now?” My response was, “In five years, I have already achieved my doctorate degree in educational leadership, and have become an

administrator in Westchester County, assisting students to recognize the value of their education and the importance of their future. To add to this, I also see myself being an ongoing statewide motivator, and hopefully an inspiration to others.”

Do you have any special news to share?

Yes, I do! Last year Mayor Mike Spano from the City of Yonkers, proclaimed August 29, 2013 to be Mayra Avila Day!
