PDF & EMAIL IMMEDIATELY. Thanks.

Thank you to all who did so much to help make our Christmas Masses beautiful. Much work goes into preparation: decorating the church, preparing the music, choir practices, compiling and printing the pro-grams, purchasing the poinsettias, in addition to all of the normal ministry work for the Masses. Thanks to all who gave of their time and talent in any way!

In Christ, Fr. Hahn

Book Study on Same Sex Attraction and the Catholic ChurchThursday evenings beginning January 9, join Fr. Hahn and Bob French in the Holy Family Library as they lead us through a book study on the book, Made for Love: Same Sex Attractions and the Catholic Church, by Fr. Michael Schmitz. This will be a seven-week study on Thursday evenings at 7:00-8:30 p.m. This book addresses the Church’s teaching in the area of sexual morality as well as the compassion due towards all persons. You can order the book on Amazon or other bookstores or ask at the office for one of the seven copies that someone has donated for the study. To let us know you are coming or for more information, contact the office at 740-774-1407.

PLEASE NOTE: With Christmas and New Years falling Wednesdays this year, it has been decided to close the Adoration Chapel for those weeks. However, if you still wish to visit, you may do so using the access code. If you do not have the code, please contact the parish office.

Do you have an intention you would like for theAdoration Chapel?

We have candle sponsorships dates available starting at the beginning of the year. Contact Jenny at the parish

Preregistration is suggested at www.virtus.org. For additional information, contact Jenny French at 740-774-1407. Taking this class as well as a fingerprint background check is a requirement for anyone wishing to volunteer with Youth in the parish, school, and diocese. Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Divine Power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

PLEASE ADD READINGS ON ALL DAYSEXCEPT THE FIRST SATURDAY.

We are almost to our goal for the next three years of the Sister Guardian campaign! Pledges are currently at $47,000.00 per year and we need $56,000.00 per year. If you haven’t made a pledge and would like to do so, please contact the parish office or go to the online giving tab on the parish website. A typical Sister Guardian commits to give $1,000.00/year for three years. However, one may choose to pledge more or less than that amount.

Bishop Flaget School wishes to thank the Catholic Foundation for their recent grant donation of $18,000.00 to our school HVAC project. This grant was funded through the competitive grant process of the Catholic Foundation. The check was presented to Mrs. Corcoran in December and was directly applied to the HVAC project fund.

How can I help the Catechumens and Candidates that have been, Accepted and Welcomed, follow Christ?

PrayCalling out each person’s name in prayer regularly is a good way to remember them on their journey.

Suggested Prayer:Loving Father I commend:

Catechumens: CandidatesKevin Duncan Michael BlakemanNicole Kashner Hildegarde LeedomRyan Kight Bridget KashnerCarrie McDonald John MitchellLitta Puckettto your care. Be their God and Father and mercifully provide whatever they lack. Give them the strength to overcome temptations and corruptions and deliver them from the pressures, fears, anxieties and emotional upheavals that seem so omnipresent in their lives. Help them to grow each day in knowledge and in reverence, faithfully serving you and learning how to walk each day in your light. I ask these things in Jesus name. Amen.

The Family of Cynthia Strausbaugh would like to thank the Secular Franciscans, Bereavement Committee, and all those who were involved with her funeral.

HOW CAN YOU HELP FEED THE HUNGRY AND CLOTHE THE NAKED?

ITEMS NEEDED BY THE FOOD PANTRY. The Food Pantry is always in need of nonperishables to keep their shelves filled. Items always in need are canned fruit, corn, and peas; pasta meals in pull top cans; pasta sauce; cereal; tuna; peanut butter; and SOUP. Personal care items are also needed. These items include soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, and feminine hygiene products. Items can be placed in the baskets found in the vestibule of Church or brought to the parish hall during office hours.

Don’t forget to participate in the Reverse Advent Calendar project. Didn’t save your calendar from the bulletin? Find it on our Facebook page or the parish website. Be sure to contact Mary Kay Pennington or Joe Zupi for any questions or for donation pickups!

As you clean out your closets for the winter, please remember to ask for receipts from Goodwill and the Thrift Shop … return these to the parish office for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. They are given credit for clients to the pantry to use for the purchase of clothing. There has been a great need for clothing of late and the Society has been hit hard with invoices from Goodwill and the Thrift Shop. Help clothe the naked by exchanging your used clothing for these receipts.

For Adults/Teens: Pick of the Week for December 29, 2019.Joseph of Nazareth: The Story of the Man Closest to Christ“The first feature film ever on the story of St. Joseph, who was a carpenter, the husband of Mary, and the foster father of Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us that St. Joseph was a “”just man”” and that God gave him the most daunting task ever asked of a man–to be the husband of the woman who would give birth to the Messiah and the father and protector of this Holy Family. He would be the man closest to Christ.

Starring Tobias Moretti in a manly, appealing performance, we are shown the human, noble, and deeply spiritual aspects of Joseph the carpenter, son of David, servant of God, and loving husband of Mary. He is presented as a man of faith who must grapple greatly with the profound mysteries of the miraculous conception, the Virgin Birth, the Incarnation of the Son of God, and the incredible challenges of protecting and raising Jesus amidst the threats on His life from the moment of his birth and beyond.

As Joseph is informed by God’s messengers about trusting and following his plan for Christ, the dangerous flight into Egypt to save his child, and finally returning to Nazareth to raise Jesus, this lovely film presents beautiful vignettes of these and other powerful scenes in the life of the young Christ and the Holy Family that are authentic and inspiring.

YOUTH PICK OF THE WEEK: December 29, 2019 Cat. Chat – 2 SeasonsThe Cat.Chat Family teaches your children the most important lessons on the Catholic Faith with catchy songs, jokes, and even juggling and unicycling adventures. Consider Making a Year-End Gift to St. Peter’s. As the end of the year approaches, we begin to reflect upon the many blessings bestowed upon us. The end of the year also provides a great opportunity to thank God for these blessings by gifting to St. Peter’s. The benefits of income tax deductions, capital gains savings and other financial benefits are significant advantages that provide an incentive to make a gift at the year-end. There are many different ways of contributing a gift. However, two of the easiest and most direct methods to gift are donations of cash and appreciated stock or other investments. You can also make other financially advantageous gifts such as real estate, life insurance, charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities, will/trust bequests and IRA/retirement accounts. You may also consider becoming a Sister Guardian as we are still in need of these or consider giving to the Bishop Flaget HVAC Project. For more information, visit the parish website at www.stpeterchillicothe.com or discuss with Fr. Hahn. Any donations to be included on the 2019 offertory statements need to be into the parish office by noon on Monday December 30, 2019. The Parish Office will be closed December 31 and January 1.
