Last Friday our School Captains, Prefects, Mrs Rouse and I attended a Community Conversation session held at the Community Centre. We were the only school in attendance and our Student Leadership team spoke very thoughtfully and eloquently on ten topics. The forum was convened by our local council to help in the development of the new Community Strategic Plan. The Community Strategic Plan will map out the vision for the Clarence Valley for the next 10 years. The conveners made special note of our attendance and how well our students presented their views. Our thanks to Mrs Rouse for organising this activity. Our leadership team has been invited back to help facilitate another forum later this year. Congratulations to all our student leaders for their efforts. Next Tuesday we are holding our Leadership Induction assembly at 10.30am in our Primary Hall. These leaders include our Captains, Vice Captains, Prefects, Sporting House Captains, Library Monitors and Student Representative Council. Parents are invited to this formal assembly which will be followed by a morning tea. Congratulations to all of these students and we are looking forward to their very positive contribution to our school this year. Our thanks to Mrs Rouse for organising this assembly. Earlier this week school photo envelopes were distributed to our students, these envelopes need to be returned to your classroom teacher by photo day. Our school photos are to be held on Tuesday 28th February for the Primary campus and Wednesday 1st March for Infants campus. If any families would like sibling photos the envelopes are available from either office. The sibling photo organisation will follow the following format: if your children are all at Primary they will be taken on Tuesday 1pm (lunchtime), if your children are all at infants they will be taken on Wednesday 1pm (lunchtime). If your children are on both the Infants and Primary Campus you will need to take your children to the Infants Campus at 8am on the Wednesday morning. Next Tuesday and Wednesday evening we have our Meet the Teacher evenings where you have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and visit their classroom. These evenings are utilised to distribute classroom information to families and to establish excellent relationships between home and school and not for personal parent teacher interviews. If you require an interview with your childs teacher please contact the office who will follow this up for you. Your attendance would be greatly appreciated. Due to these meetings we have had to postpone our P&C AGM to the following Tuesday 28th February at 6pm in the Library. We welcome all our current members and new families to these meetings. These meetings are a good way to find out what is happening in our fabulous school and meet our executive staff. 'Slinky Tuesday' is an initiative in our Infants campus to encourage children to eat fruit. Children bring an apple from home on Tuesday mornings and Mrs Sullivan or Mrs Winters will slinky it for them. Parents Please Note: We have just been notified by the Parking Ranger that anyone found dropping children off or picking children up in the BUS ZONES will be fined. Police have been monitoring this heavily. Infants parents please remember for the safety of our students there are protocols put in place at the end of the school day to ensure all students are collected by their parent/carer. Each class has their designated collection point to ensure all our students are safe.

Good luck to our swimming team who will be participating in the Clarence Zone Swimming Carnival to be held at the Grafton pool on Wednesday 22nd February. We have 43 swimmers attending who will be accompanied by Mr Zacek, Mr Jones and Mrs McIntyre.

Congratulations to our Year 6 students 2016 who have produced a fantastic film on Student Leadership. Here is the web address if you would like to view it. https://filmpond.com/#/ponds/southgraftonps/films/lc3vqrm3ye7d

Parent reminder: If you haven’t completed your parent Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire for the ‘Got It Program’ that will be implemented in Terms 1 and 2 on the Infants campus could you please do so and return to your class teacher. If you need a new questionnaire they are available at the Infants office. Thank you. Cubs and Lions Band It is so exciting to begin the year with the joy of music. The band program at SGPS begins with rehearsals for both groups this week. We have an excellent partnership with the Clarence Valley Conservatorium who provide expert tuition in flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and bass guitar. Thank you to all of the families who have paid their ‘one off’ band fees for the year. Instruments will continue to be allocated to students who have paid this week. There are limited spaces available for students wishing to learn the guitar. Please see Ms Grayndler or the office for an application form. Watch this space for more news about the Lions and Cubs progress and upcoming events. Ms Grayndler Band Co-ordinator

2017 is off to another great start with lots of children back into the habit of enjoying their reading and borrowing and returning regularly. To help out our parents and carers, below is the Term 1 Library timetable so you can check what day your children have Library. I hope that by you knowing when they have Library, you can help them remember to return their books each week. Thank you! Infant’s students especially, please remember to use your library bag as it helps keep our books safe for others to enjoy. Just a reminder to place your Book Club orders ASAP online and we thank you for your support. Happy reading! Mrs Heyman

Friday 24 February 20177.00pm Clarence Valley Conservatorium 8 Villiers Street, Grafton

Clarence Valley Conservatorium presents

Ennobled by improbable facial hair, burdened by a vast, lovable incomprehension, and dignified with cavernous vocal chords, The Spooky Men's Chorale employs a devastating combination of beauty and stupidity to comment on the unsolvable paradoxes of being a man.

With diverse repertoire ranging from Georgian table songs to immaculate ballads, vaudevillian nonsense and a mock Sufi ode to the Bee Gees, they have built a reputation for highly amusing and entertaining performances built on a solid musical base, under the leadership of Stephen Taberner.
