South Curl Curl slsc

Presidents Report

May I begin this report in saying what another fantastic season we have had and as you read through the pages of this Annual report, I hope that you come to appreciate the dedication and deserved success of South Curl Curl and its members in all conceivable aspects of Club life and service

Once again the members that patrol our beach for the summer months have performed an excellent job in providing the bathing public at our beach a safe and secure environment to enjoy Australia’s favourite pastime. To all those that have been involved, the community service you provided this season is priceless and our gratitude boundless.

To enable the surf club to perform its duties and go forward, there has to be education of the new blood and re-education of the old blood. For many years this task has been handled by the ever present Kevin Moffatt and other committed members. The time spent in the education of members is onerous and tiring but this has not deterred the efforts of Kevin, Bryn Russell, Liane Harris-Moffatt, Neil & Sinnead Guy, Zac Russell and Brad Brannigan. To all these people the Club owes a huge debt, as education of members is our future. A special mention must be made of all the Nipper parents that took the leap in gaining their Bronze Medallion.

This year we saw an increase in members competing for South Curl Curl SLSC at local, State and National carnivals. This growing number comes from an infl ux of new juniors to the Club and Nippers, who under the guidance of several parents, coaches and sweeps have done remarkably well. I’d liked to thank every competitor for donning the gold, blue and white quartered cap and competing for the Club.

The stand out performance in my mind this year came from our Women’s Curl Curl Gold boat crew. There would not be many crews around who have consistently placed either fi rst or second in every race within a season as these girls have done. What a fantastic effort! Last but not least, to our boys under 9 year old surf team, who picked up a silver medal at the NSW State carnival, this was truly a shock to many, but the grin on these little boy’s faces said it all. It has been along time coming since we picked up a medal in the surf, particularly at this level and particularly in this company. I think the kids even slept with their medals around their necks.

However behind every competitor there is a raft of coaches and managers who give up a huge amount of their time and energy to all our members. I would like to recognize, Jenny Drury and Jeff Hewitt our carnival offi cials, John Cassidy, Chris Flemming, Robert Michael, Zulu Settree, and Mark Spiteri our sweeps, Peter Yeates, Jordi Skelton, Brad Hines and Bryn Russell our Nipper coaches and Michelle Lowery our competition manager for there involvement this season.

Whilst our outstanding success in the competition area is obvious so too is the success of our Junior Activity Section .Under the leadership of Darrin Stoker and his committee, South Curl Curl SLSC continues to attract and more importantly retain new members each year. These young lifesavers are our future. Hopefully, in years to come, they will be doing what we are now to help perpetuate this excellent Club. Talking of excellence the “Curly Sounds Waves” Wine, Food and Music festival was held again this year. This bi-annual event is not only a community event but it is a major fundraiser for the Club. It really is diverse; it has everything you could want, from gourmet sausage sandwiches to fi ne dining, from beer to champagne, heavy rock and roll to jazz. All members get right behind it, Lyndall Flemming and her deputy Elise Wouters control and organize the event with Billy Good, Elton McKay, Janice Russell and Lisa Settree doing a wonderful job in logistics, food prep and ordering. This year’s proceeds went towards the purchase of a new boat.

The new N.R. Perry boat, the “Bucko” was named in honor of Bob Buckingham all his hard work and commitment to the Club. What’s unique about this is that both he and his father Bruce are Life members, both have been Presidents of the Club and both have had a boat named after them. Congratulations Bob.

The Club is now in a very strong position and moving forward in many ways. We have a charter and strategic intent and with good management the plan should come to fruition in a couple of years. I would like to thank the continued commitment and support my Committee and sub committees have given me. I always appreciate your advice, your worldly words of wisdom, in all matters of membership, points of surf law, fi nancial and business issues as well as maintaining tradition and culture of the Club.

To the Branch Executive and offi ce staff led by Tony Haven and Martin Phillips, the support that you have provided our club this year is greatly appreciated as is the sponsorship assistance from DHL, Coca Cola Amatil, FGI and Energy Australia.

To our own major sponsor Harbord Beach Hotel, thank you for your continued support. To Council for all matters relating to the security and maintenance of the Club to monetary and beach support services we really appreciate your support.

To all members – from the elder ones to the young ones – thank you for your efforts this season. It has been a pleasure to be involved with so many motivated and fun loving people. It just doesn’t end here, there is another season ahead and the Executive Committee is always appreciative of members who wish to come forward and play and active role.

Next year will be very exiting as we celebrate the centenary of surf life saving and we head off to Scarborough, Western Australia for the Nationals.

See you on the beach.

South Curl Curl slsc

Secretary’s ReportThe Club continues to function very well in all sections, in and out of the competitive arena.

Our competitors have done us proud with our boat rowers winning medals at branch, state and national levels. We have record numbers of boat competitors with in excess of 50 competitors this year. Without doubt, South Curl Curl SLSC is a boat rowers club thanks to the encouragement and untiring efforts of our excellent sweeps.

Our nippers have also have had competitive success this year at several carnivals attended including a silver medal in surf teams at the State titles.

At an administration level, the Club continues to prosper on the platform laid by the Committee over the last six years. We are fi nancially sound and have a great relationship with our sponsors. The Committee continues to encourage a culture of self help among our members and a typical example is the fund raising generated from our biennial Curly Sound Waves, an event that has been very successful since its inception.

We experimented successfully this past season with half day patrols which were very popular and bring us into parity with other clubs thanks to our Life and Long Service Members who selfl essly make themselves available for inclusion on the patrol roster.

The Committee also has long term building development plans in place and we are currently seeking owner’s consent for our plans which include a new boatshed at road level above the IRB shed.

Immediate developments include the imminent construction by Warringah Council of a new sea wall in front of the Clubhouse and hopefully a new ramp onto the beach.

The Club’s gym continues to improve under the stewardship of Errol Jones who continues to encourage strong gym etiquette in gym users.

Under existing plans, the facilities of the Club will continue to improve in the coming years as our fi nances and approvals by the relevant authorities permit.

On behalf of the Committee, I give the undertaking that we will continue to strive to improve the Club facilities and operations and I thank the members of the Club for their support and encouragement during the season.

Beach Management Report

Our 88th season of patrolling South Curly fi nally came to an end on the 30th April 2006 and it is with great pleasure that your Committee can announce that there were “no lives lost” at South Curly Curl this season, or to quote our resident Magistrate there were “no lives lost” at the kiosk.

That said, our patrolling members did perform exceptionally well, logging in 37 effective rescues and over 3,200 patrol hours. Then there are the out-of-hours rescues which there were 4 that our members were involved in, and a number of series fi rst aid cases.

What this indicates is, is that we are continuing to do a good job with the implementing of effective procedures and sound practises in our overall beach management. This includes the maintaining of a good working relationship with our professional lifeguards Tony Sinclair and Neil Danenburg.

This standard was due to a combination of things such as introducing half day patrols (like normal clubs), better mixing of patrols, plus increasing the number of award members on patrol.

If we continue to attract new members like we have been and encourage parents of members of our junior ranks to do their Bronze we will signifi cantly lighten the burden of our more senior members, has long been an objective of the Committee.

Until that happens, which won’t be overnight, we will still have the problem of Life Members and the Executive being rostered on to do patrols. Personally I would love to change this but being a small club it is very diffi cult and everybody needs to chip in. After all, it is only three to four hours once a month, it’s also is a good excuse to get to the beach and do something important, but most of all to stay in touch with your mates.

So to every member that has given up on average 28hrs of service or seven half days, thank you. To our Patrol Captains that have phoned, organised and wrangled the troops on the beach, thank you because if it wasn’t for you, this season wouldn’t have been as a successful as it was and our competitors won’t have been able to compete.

Of the rescues performed, a few that stick in my mind were,

• Ricardo Molina and Zac Russell’s IRB rescue of a submerged but semiconscious Asian boy off “Flat Rock”

• Graig Bowra (4) and Graham Dossetor (6) people, rescued by board out-of-hours.

• The men’s “A” crew whilst training at 6 pm in the middle of the beach, rendered assistance to a woman, rescuing an unconscious man in the surf. The man was revived and taken to hospital by ambulance.

• Dave Alldis, Jeff Hewitt and Ann Taylor doing 4 pool rescues.

Kevin and Bryn have continued doing an excellent job in putting members through their profi ciency, Bronze, Arc and IRBD awards. We now have arguably the most qualifi ed patrolling force per capita amongst any Club in our Branch. Our IRB’s are always primed and ready to go and consideration to fuel, repairs and maintenance and ship-to-shore communication is always top of mind for Charley Kuhn and Billy Good.

Our gear, our radios and our Club house have never looked so good, this is because it’s all done with a passion and commitment by our Life Member Ray Rees. Who incidentally, does the raffl es at Harbord Brach Hotel with Kevin, GD and Jeff Hewitt every Thursday. To our new craft captains Brad and Zac who made sure all the dings were look after, thanks a lot.

On the social scene Georgina Wettone, helped by Michelle Lowery and Helen Johnston did a marvellous job. The trivia night was defi nitely one of your best girls. The idea of auctioning off the services of the “A” crew was sensational; Martin now has a list of jobs a mile long.

Curly Sounds Waves still continues to be the Club’s number one event, our two head job givers really put

Page 12: South Curl Curl slsc · South Curl Curl slsc South Curl Curl Surf Lifesaving Club Incorporated 2006 Annual report Agenda 1 Club Patrons 2 Club Office Holders For The 2005/2006 Season

South Curl Curl slsc

everything in to making it a success. Although the weather wasn’t quite what we wanted, the support from the community and from the members was. Loved the prawns but the cheese was a bit much.

To our competitors it’s been a very successful and we just love seeing South Curl Curl on the dais. Four thousands dollars in prize money is exceptional and it helped pay for the increase in entry fees. It was wonderful to see our juniors having a go and participating in carnivals this year, if they continue on in the sport they can only improve.

To pooh, eighteen editions of wit and humour and Club news were spot on. Nobody was overlooked except maybe Martin; even the President got a serve with that feature on swim suit modelling. Poor old Errol, king of the gym or master of the broom I don’t know but the guy’s coped it all but one thing for sure he loves his Gym and its never looked better.

So I’ll end in saying that Surf Lifesaving is alive and well and the spirit that’s within the Club is very strong, so have a well earned break, because there’s more of the same next year.

South Curl Curl slsc

Boat Captain’s ReportIt has been another very successful year for the South Curl Curl “boaties”. I have kept the members of the Club abreast of the news concerning our boat crews through the Pooh Bear newsletters, so I won’t go over each and every result from the many carnivals our crews have attended over the year but will use this as an opportunity to thank all those involved in the boating fraternity at our club and to mention a few special highlights for the year.

First and foremost, special thanks go to Gus and Ribs. Every year the more modest size club that is South Curl Curl, somehow fi nds the capability of fi elding a large number of crews covering a wide scope within the various Surf boat divisions. Not only do we fi nd ourselves well represented, but in addition we never fail to bring home a swag of medals for our efforts. We are lucky to have the assistance in the sweeping department of Robert Michaels (Flea), Wayne Settree (Zulu) and not to forget Casso and his Master’s crews, but I think the “boaties” would all agree that without Gus and Rib’s expertise, time and all round commitment to the sport and to the South Curl Curl Club we would not fi nd ourselves on the world stage for Surf Boat racing. Strong words “World Stage” but we really do have crews in this club that are at that level. To illustrate our Open Men’s Blue crew and both our Open Women’s crew made it through to the top 16 in their respective divisions at the Australian Titles this year. This result is made all the more remarkable when each division carried well over 100 entered crews.

More “thank you’s” - I would also like to thank all the individual crews and sweeps for the support they have given me as Boat Captain for the past 12 months. I know I may not be up to scratch in the technical/practical side of looking after the boats and rely on the sweeps and crew members to assist in this area, many thanks to each and every member of our boat crews for pulling your weight and working like a team. When we do this it makes everybody’s individual jobs that much easier.

Finally our highlights for the year: The World Titles held in Lorne, Victoria was a fantastic weekend for our Club. We went away with 5 crews and made 5 fi nals and brought home a couple of medals to boot. The thing that sticks out in my mind the most about that weekend was the spirit on the beach between the South Curl boaties when we willed our South Curl Curl Gold Ladies Girls crew home in the fi nal…. I think if we could have collectively picked up the boat and brought it across the line those standing on the beach watching that fi nal would have. That’s probably the difference between our Club and many others, the boat crews really do get behind each other and when success is earned by one it is felt by all.

In mentioning highlights, I’m sure the feeling by the other crew members on the beach at Lorne was the same at Kurrawa when Lara, Yanda, Elly and Kate rowed valiantly in the Final of the Australian Titles to bring home another “oh so close to Gold” Silver medal. If I had to nominate THE highlight of the year it would be the results that our Ladies Gold crew has earned themselves. When I say earned I mean earned because I tell you from personal experience these girls work hard. The girls are to be congratulated on their ASRL Premiership and their silver medals in the World, State and Australian Titles. I don’t want to take anything away from the other crews within the club but I think it will be along time coming before the club sees another crew of this calibre and the potential to bring so many accolades upon the club.

Finally, to end, another highlight although maybe a more discreet achievement, isn’t it great to see the return of Junior boat crews in the club. Not only our two junior male crews but our two Under 23 Ladies crews as well. All four crews made headway this year and appear to be getting the hang of the sport with a number of signifi cant results particularly by our Junior Men. I think it’s well known that in any organisation you need succession planning and opportunities for young people to come through the ranks, a surf club is no different and we need to get behind our young people and encourage and support them. Well done to you girls and guys for getting in and having a go, hope to see you with an oar in hand next year. I hope everyone has a nice relaxing “off season”; see you on the beach next summer.

Thanks

I really must acknowledge the following individuals for their excellent efforts during the year.

a) Charles Longley – during the year I was away overseas on my honeymoon & this guy fi lled in to assist in the operation of club fi nances. This is a remarkable achievement given at the same time Charles held the position of club president & also club captain. In terms of commitment to the club this guy has it all – well done & thanks.

b) Graham Dominish for his brilliant efforts in running the fi nances of the nippers.c) Graham Dossetor, Kevin Moffat and Barry Farrell for organizing the Harbord Hotel pub raffl es.d) Ray Rees once again for his great efforts in running the hall hire business of the club & being our best

ever caretaker.e) Martin Thompson for always being available to co-sign cheques at a moments notice.f) All my fellow committee members for donating their time & energy to running this great club.g) The bank tellers at Bendigo Bank for being so patient in waiting for adequate funds to arrive in the

accounts of Richard Roberts & John McIntosh so the club could bank their membership fees.

Treasurer Observations

- There is a 90% chance that Ann Taylor will be on patrol. (Congratulations Ann on getting your bronze – well done).

- The club’s newsletter Pooh Bear never makes a joke about Martin Thompson.- On the day of the club championships Martin Thompson chose to take his wife shopping instead of

competing. (What a guy)!!- Coming second in any event at the club champos is not a disappointment.- The longest time delay between the club receiving an invoice & giving to the treasurer for payment is 3

mths & 22 days (well outside the suppliers 30 days credit policy). The invoice was eventually paid.- Errol Jones reckons the best way to warm up for a gym session is to grab a broom & sweep the fl oor.

(Well done Errol – the gym is looking fantastic).- The kiosk employee’s reckon we have the most talented members, it’s defi nitively a skill to be on patrol

and at the same time be in the café having a coffee.

See you all next season for another tremendous year at south curly SLSC (God’s Country).

Stephen roseHon Club Treasurer

To put Steve’s Report into perspective, the short poem by Robert Frost (1874-1932) is apt -

Nipper’s ReportMembership

This season saw another increase in the number of families choosing to enroll their children into Nippers at South Curl Curl. I believe we are providing a good environment for the Nippers to become educated in surf awareness and gain skills that will help them into the future. We try particularly hard to balance competition with fun so that all skill levels are catered for equally and no one misses out on an opportunity to be involved in any activity.

Sunday Activities

The conditions most Sundays were favorable this season with plenty of sand on the beach and the “beach closed” signs only appearing on a couple of occasions. Water safety was enhanced greatly with a few dedicated bronze holders ensuring we had suffi cient numbers in the water to allow our Sunday morning water activities to take place. Most pleasing of all was the number of children actively taking part in the water events both in swim and board paddling, this did test us out a few times in the amount of equipment we have but overall that is a very positive sign for the club.

Age Managers & Parental Support

Congratulations to all the age managers for an outstanding effort this season across all age groups. It can be quite a challenge each Sunday morning organizing activities and keeping check on the safety of all children particularly when some age groups are exceeding 50 children! All the age managers are of coarse parents of children themselves and can only hope to operate their group effectively if suffi cient support is available from other parents. To this end we have been well supported this season in most age groups with many parents making themselves available on Sunday mornings to assist on the beach and in the water, I know most of the children really enjoy having a parent actively involved in their group.

Carnivals

Carnival participation continues to grow and the greater number of competitors from South Curl Curl certainly enhances the experience of competing and adds a real sense of “team” to the day. The higher numbers and increased enthusiasm has resulted in a steep rise in success for our competitors with many outstanding results at the Carnivals this season. One of the most pleasing aspects is the number of team events we can now enter and a lot of our success has come from these teams with many medals at Branch Championships and a State Silver medal to the Under 9’s swim team.

Bronze Medallions

This season saw quite a number of parents training for and completing their bronze medallion at the club. Another large group of parents are close to completing their training now and will have completed their exam by the time you read this. This is a wonderful outcome for the club and it would be fair to say that parents of Nippers (now senior club members) represent the highest growth area of new bronze holders in the club. This benefi ts us all in two ways, the fi rst of which is the provision of skilled water safety people on a Sunday morning to supervise water activities, secondly it allows South Curl Curl to provide patrols each Saturday, Sunday and public holidays of the season. As in all areas of the club the more people involved the more we can spread the workload and enjoy our time at the club.

Inaugural Club Ball

A number of social activities were successfully run this year from BBQ’s on Sunday mornings to Card nights and

Post Carnival Sippers at the club. One new item however was added at seasons end and I could not fi nish this report without thanking those involved in organizing one of the best nights out you could have, let alone at your local surf club! Food, drinks, dancing and great live music from two bands was thoroughly enjoyed by all. This is certainly one event that will be back bigger and better, if possible, next year. Get your tickets early!

Thanks to everyone involved in making this season successful and enjoyable, hope to see you all back again next season.

Junior Development Report

The period between the completion of the Surf Rescue Certifi cate and obtaining the Bronze Medallion (Cadets) has always been the greatest period of attrition for Surf Clubs. Finding ways to keep these future lifesavers both interested, and involved is a challenge, for not only South Curly, but for all clubs. Over the next few years the hard work invested by the Nipper committee will come to fruition, with larger numbers of cadets coming through the older age groups. South Curly as a club will need to embrace these Cadets as they really are the future of the club, whether they end up rowing, paddling, or just doing their patrols. In a blink of an eye, these are the kids we will be relying on.

The Cadets for 2005/2006 spent the season honing their surf skills with free surfi ng the preferred Sunday morning option. Those that were able went through and at the time of preparing this report were 90% through obtaining their Bronze medallion.

From a junior’s perspective – the boat rowing fraternity has certainly embraced the three junior boat crews that came through this year. It’s a pleasure to watch these kids from yesterday, turn in to the adults of tomorrow. There were lots of highs, and a few lows for these juniors to experience, but judging by the smiles on their faces, the experience was worth the time and effort.

• Congrats to Scotty Taylor for being named the Junior Rower for South Curly. Well done!• Congrats to Zac Russell and Brad Brannigan for gaining their instructors qualifi cations.• Congrats to Chase McMillan, Kieran O’Brien, Matt Dossetor, and the Latham boys for their ongoing success

in the Junior Surf events. It’s nice to see these guys embrace board riding competitively through the club.

Overall congrats to all the Cadets and Juniors for their patience, their effort, and their smiles over the past season.

IRB Report

This past season saw our boats do a lot of work both in training and in rescues and the boats and motors held up very well under the pressure.

Five candidates attained their IRB Drivers Medal. Congratulations to Darren Stoker, Mike Jones, Scott Taylor, Zac Russell and Brad Branigan. And while they were training they performed a couple of rescues on the way. Well done.

Next season there will be some new equipment and all drivers will need to do sea work to be able to properly handle this gear.

A boat radio arrived this past season and it would be nice to see this properly integrated into what should be regarded as our premier life saving section.

See you on the beach.

Gym ReportThe gym has undergone upgrades that have considerably improved the overall range of fi tness facilities. It continues to operate with the desired effi ciency and safety, but almost as importantly, it fi lls the role of social hub. It’s the place of much verbal exchange, that is, between grunts, groans, and, in the case of one VSG (very special guy), a very special guttural emission. Such is the intensity of this fear inducing sound; the promenade is cleared of passers-by within seconds – much to the chagrin of the coffee shop operators.

But every gym must have its VSG. They make the place, in a word, special.

Most recently, the fl oor has been covered in rubber gym tiles, which have proven a benefi t to users in fl oor exercises, and generally in making for reduced impact on limbs and weights. The fl oor is now easier to keep clean, and the place looks that much more professional.

An extra machine has been added. This provides for leg extensions, leg curls, lat, seated ab, seated bench (and incline)…a range of exercises not catered for previously. In fact, just about every conventional equipment dependent exercise can now be performed in our gym. It’s a small gym, but well equipped, thanks to your foresighted club. The rowing machines are serviced every three months, along with moving parts on the pin loaded machines. In return, all the club asks is that you look after this invaluable facility.

Donations and Sponsorships

The Club greatly appreciates the donations and sponsorship support it receives each year from our loyal supporters who contribute a mix of cash and kind each year.

The Harbord Beach Hotel contributed the largest fi nancial donation to the Club last year while our members contributed countless hours of service to the Club whenever they were called upon. Without this level of support, it would be diffi cult to provide the equipment and facilities that is made available to our members.

Dave McErlaneDave was born in Scotland in 1914 and came to Australia in 1922. He grew up in Harbord and joined our club in 1932.

He enjoyed a very successful career in club competition, winning the honour blazer twice, in 1934-35 and 1936-37, among other things and during the period 1936 to 1939 he was also playing fi rst grade rugby league with North Sydney. He also gained a third place in the State Pentathlon.

The war came in 1939 and like so very many young men of the surf life saving movement; he took the King’s shilling as soon as possible, for travel and adventure. He was taken prisoner by the Germans in Greece in 1941 and spent the next 4 ½ years in a camp near Marburg in Austria, where he had various adventures

However, the particular thing about Dave was, I guess, inevitable, with his personality.

Dave was sent regularly to work on nearby farms and he became such good friends with these farming families that he was often invited to attend church with them, Sundays, and a life-long friendship developed with them. I’ve not read of this happening elsewhere in any of my reading of that confl ict.

Home from the war, Dave was elected Club Captain for 1946-47. He had been Captain in 1937-38 and 1938-39. He was made a Life Member in 1945-46.

His extraordinary life took an upward tilt from here.

Dave was a remedial therapist by occupation and worked at this at Jervis Bay with injured veterans, then moved to Mount Wilga Rehabilitation Centre at Hornsby, and from here his skills with his hands, combined with a marvelous, positive gift of the gab, gained him the position of physio with the Australian Cricket Team, for multiple tours. His list of personal friends stretched from the Queen, on down all stratas of humanity. Legends abound and nobody has ever said “I don’t believe it!”

He held may positions locally, started the Diggers gym, looked after Manly League team, etc, etc, and here locally the legends grew.

You see, nobody could beat him at any game. Golf handicap of 3. Try batball, tennis, badminton, any gymnasium exercises, the list goes on. He was an extraordinary athlete.

And of course he could dance. Tap dancing was his forte – he used to give displays on the brick fence outside his home as a kid and he often starred at the annual Manly Golf Club concerts, when he was in his late 70’s and early 80’s. And he never lost that marvelous gift – an entertaining speaker, you know, I could go on and on.

He left us fi nally in December 2005 aged 92. His last visitors were some of his old lady friends from the 1930’s.

We scattered his ashes in the sea in front of the Surf Club immediately following the most joyous Club Championships I can ever remember.

Rest in Peace, Dave.

South Curly Song

Oh now that we’re all around the kegand the Captains declared it a quorum

We’re drinking our way through a nineand we’re having the time of our lives

Throw the empties away start againfor the boys of South Curly are together

We’ll drink till the dawn breaks againand may our sessions last forever

Oh what makes the waters ripple?what makes the waters dark?I hope it’s not an octopusI hope it’s not a shark

South Curlys’ on the lineSouth Curlys’ on the lineOh what do we care if we’re not there?we can always sink a nine

Oh we’re ragtime surf cluba raggerty raggerty ragtime surf clubAll day long we’re sitting on the beachWhen ever there’s a rescue we’re always out of reach

Oh we’re a ragtime surf cluba shagging all the sheilas as they pass

and we work for the Harbord Councilfor a lousy kick in the ……….C…U…R…L…YCURLY

For the purposes of reviving a bit of South Curly typically irreverent historical culture and, perhaps as a means of perpetuating it, John Cassidy has provided the above words to the South Curly Song for all to memorise.

For the uninformed, women and children, the words of the South Curly Song do not necessarily refl ect the sentiments of this Surf Club and are meant to be taken in jest.
