na Laura lived on the downhill

Ahouse. It was more a neglected house than an old one; it had two

lime trees on the front yard. The lime trees scent still remaindering me her, also that one defoliated jasmine tree that looked as if it were hanging from the old wall.

She lived on the same street my aunt´s house, which I used to visit every Saturday. My aunt and my uncle never had sons or daughters, for that reason, my aunt Lucia pampered me cooking me escalopes and rice pudding.

I was boring due to the lack of cousins and I only had Nico as my companion, he was a friendly haggard dog. I found Ani one afternoon; when I got close to her, she was jumping the rope under those trees, she was bony and pale as talcum powder and with that black braided hair.

She had beautiful picaresque green eyes and an ear to ear smile whose seemed to miss something. We became friends immediately; I think she got bored those long afternoons. For what I heard, she never knew her mother and her father moved to Buenos Aries and never came back, so her grandma raised her.

Every Saturday I learned girl games and she learned boy games. If my friends

would have watched me playing hopscotch or how she scored me goals on that lime trees goal! One day I had the courage to ask her to be my girlfriend and she happily accepted, then we grabbed our hands and sat on the tread to have cookies and strawberry juice. I guess that meant a relationship for us.

When my family moved, I took a few years to come back to my aunt house; everything had changed. It was just one of those old lime trees left on the abandoned house. When I looked to that path, it reminded me her drawing the hopscotch with the chalk; my heart got sad in that moment, but then I thought:

We never broke up, we never broke up our relationship so, in some way and wherever she is, Ana Laura is still being my girlfriend, forever. That is why I brought cookies today.

y mom stopped while she was

Mstill holding my hand, and after a moment of silence,

said: -Hi dad, I know has been a long time

since the last time we talked but I felt that I should have come today. You might think we do not have much to talk about, but I think we actually need to.

- Today is my birthday, do you remember? Twenty years ago, I was being fifteen and I remember I was starting to hate you because you were not in my birthday party. You arrived exactly when the waltz song started.

-You told me ¨You look beautiful my princess!¨ Although you were bad at dancing, you made me, very, very happy that day. I might be wrong, but I know you can hear me, even in your condition, I know you can hear me clearly.

-I forgive you dad. I forgive you were absent almost my entire childhood, I forgive you were like a temporary visitor in my life, like a comet who just took me for ice creams and read me tales to sleep at night, just to wake up

the next morning without you and waiting for you to return home.

- I felt alone, you know? I clung to the idea that one day you would come to the house to stay with us and be happy forever. ¨My dad is not here because he works abroad¨ I used to repeat that to myself every end of course in school, until it became like a conjuring, like a lie that I wanted to believe in.

I forgive you dad, today I forgive you because you were not at my side every time I needed your comfort… He is Sebastian, you grandson. Look at those eyes, that nose; you are very alike.

Well, I just wanted to tell you that, it is because I wanted to finish my sorrow. I hope you be ok and resting¨

Then my mother kneel down and put those flower in the little silver vases and she whispered; ¨I love you dad, in spite of everything, I love you¨. Then we left that place.

I was only five and after many years later, I could not understand very well what she said that day.

Welcome to Sopor Magazine. Tell us about your beginnings in the alternative model world and how has it improved until now...

I'm alternative model since 2013 from the moment when I submitted my

Suicide Girls Page. I just started to be heavy tattooed, I had almost each week new tattoo and my look changed completely. Each day I had lots of proposals from photographers in Belgium, Germany and France. My photos were published in CatMeow Magazine, Inked, Tatouage Mag and Tattood Life Style Mag. I started to receive proposals from merchendasers (for making publicity for their clothing) like DeadWeight Clothing, FrenchFlut, LeBarbu, Familly Ink, InkAddict, Iron Fist, Wicked One, etc. Right now I m tattooed travel model living in France. I have my personal web site where you can find all my latest shoots (www.lilouciano.com) Also, as I'm married with tattoo artist (MC Shaolink, French tattooer) we are doing tattoo conventions together (in 1 year we make already 12 conventions). My husband making tattoos on me and we present it in the concours of each our convention. And we are wining each time the concours.

You are also a singer, tell us more about it ...

I'm at the same time a vocalist (scream/growl), I had 3 black metal bands in 2009 in Ukraine. I

made in 2009 an album with Russian black metal band (North Black), which you can find in

YouTube, Google, MySpace, etc.In 2014 I was singing in Belgian Black/Death Metal

band Epidemian, I had 3 concerts with them. And right now, I'm living in France, I received new proposition to make new CD with Russian black metal band (North Black).

Besides modeling and music, what other activities you like doing?

Almost each week I'm tattooed by my husband. He is recovering my old tattoos. So, my passions are photoshoots, music and tattoos.

In many other countries body modifications are still being a taboo. What would you say to people who still has this kind of prejudice?

Yes, I know it, I'm meeting often persons like this cause at the same time I'm working with my husband in our Tattoo Salon in France (Shamrock Tattoo) and often I'm replying that tattoo is a choice of each person and luckily I'm living in good country where I can express myself as much as I want.

In your social networks we can see a tattoo on your left palm, tell us more about this design...

My fresh tattoo in the palm of my left hand it's a symbol of my motherland (Ukraine). I love my land, I'm very sad at the moment about political situation in my country (war), so I made it to support Ukrainian patriots as I'm also patriot. So it's mean to much for me, I'm proud to have this sign of freedom on my hand like this each time looking on it I'm happy and proud to be Ukrainian. Slava Ukraïni (Viva Ukraine)

What do you think about the alternative modeling market in Europe?

I think that European alternative modeling market is open minded. I like that you can participate and have no problems with your look and you are sure that no one will juge you. Lot of freedom in projects and it's good.

What do you like about being an alternative model?

I like to make experimental shoots with photographers which have extraordenal ideas.

What was your first tattoo and how old were you?

I had my first tattoo when I was 17 and it was symbol of Lacoste (crocodile), I have memories from my childhood cause when I was a kid my

father worked in Poland and me and mom where in Ukraine and when he came back from his long trip he was wearing tee of Lacoste (it was rare in Ukraine in 1997 to have such clothing), he was very stylish :) and also, I was a classic model and I worked for Lacoste.

What has been the most glorious moment in your life?

The most glorious moment in my life was in May 2014 when I met first t ime my husband on ta t too conven t i on i n Be lg ium (La Louvière). I felt in love with him directly :) he is my first love that's why this moment was the best moment of my life.

Thank you for giving us the chance to know more about you, it has been a pleasure for us...

EVERY HUMAN BEING NEEDS TO EXPRESS IN DIFFERENT WAYS AND

THE ART IS ONE OF THEM, EITHER

THROUGH MUSIC, DANCING, SCULPTING,

PAINTING OR ANY OTHER. SINCE THE BEGINNINGS, THE HUMAN RACE HAS

LOOKED FOR A WAY TO EXPRESS THROUGH

ART. BY THIS, WE MEAN TO THOSE CREATIONS

WHO TAKE OUR ATTENTION BECAUSE

THEY HAVE THAT PARTICULAR SENSE THAT MAKES THEM

VERY SPECIAL; IT IS NOT ANY CREATION

AND EVEN, IT TELLS US ABOUT THE ARTIST.

Page 16: Sopor Magazine | ISSUE 2

Although, once we are adults it is possible for us to get the taste for art, it is very important for young people to develop a way to express what they feel and that way, put into practice something to make them feel more comfortable, something more personal and with the practice of it look for self-improvement.

Nowadays is very common for young people to learn extracurricular disciplines such as languages or sports, but most of the times they forget about the artistic side, and this one, is the one in charge to develop our artistic ability as well as our personal improvement, social, emotional and psychologist profile.

Another point to take into account is that the enthusiasm in this way of expression is achieved through the experience. A person should not be forced to do something in what he or she does not feel comfortable, since practice and experience are the ones in charge of the artist improvement.

That is why is important to mention and to teach the meaning in the word ̈ art¨ and the knowledge of the expressions that comprehend this term. If this is forgotten, maybe, teenagers will be losing

potential interest and something that he or she does not know, since they were not taught to

go deep into this field.

T h e r e a r e m a n y b e n e fi t s provided by art; here are shown

the more important of them.

Improves Communication: Doub t less l y, one o f the

greatest benefits in art is the communication. It gives

the poss ib i l i t y to e x p r e s s i n a d i f f e r e n t a n d p e r s o n a l l a n g u a g e , principally for those w h o h a v e d i fficu l t ies w i th c o m m u n i c a t i o n and expression. It is a way to express a stories, feelings

and ideas who reflect the artist personality.

Therapeutic: Permits to immerse in a world of inspiration and creativity in which someone can release the mind and suppress the stress. It is a concentration moment, where the time is not very important because it is for and only to the artist. Good feelings start flowing the calm rises up creating happiness around us. It is ideal for those who have nervous and aggressive tendencies.

Improves Self-esteem: What we do with effort and dedication becomes in our creation, something we admire proudly, because shows who we are and how we feel, it is a personal achievement.

Helps our mental activity: Since both sides in the brain start working; -left hemisphere, logical and rational side, right hemisphere, exposes our creativity and emotions-. This one helps to battle sicknesses such as Alzheimer.

Develops our emotional intelligence: Emotions as part in world of creativity, give efficiently the harmony and relaxation properly for emotional, energetic and spiritual comfort. To have a desirable comfort allows us to live properly reaching a highest perception in our environment.

Provides us happiness: We all need to clear our mind from the everyday tasks, to this, artistic activities are great mean to have fun. They are a way to take a break and give time to health activity to get away from the chaotic and uncontrolled world we live in.

Having mentioned this, there is no doubt it is time to work in our welfare.

KLAVELVET IS A URUGUAYAN BRAND THAT STANDS OUT FOR ITS EXQUISITE QUALITY

CORSETS, WHOSE CURRENT INTEREST LIES IN INTRODUCING THEM INTO THE CASUAL SET; WE HAD

THE PLEASURE OF TALKING WITH THEIR DESIGNER ITA PEREIRA IN THIS MUST-SEE INTERVIEW.

Page 20: Sopor Magazine | ISSUE 2

Ita, thank you for giving us this interview, it is a pleasure to talk with you about this wonderful

design work that you carry out a few years ago already...

With Klavelvet seven years ago that I am; It started as a hobby that was growing and growing,

and here we are today in my store.

How did Klavelvelt started and how did you think about the name?

Actually, I wanted to change the name a few years ago, because it is difficult. It is not a name easy to pronounce and it is far-fetched. Klavelvet is a mixture of two words, "Carnation" which is my favorite flower and "Velvet" in English.

Klavelvet star ted wi th a personal concern of wanting to dress me as I really liked and not never find suitable clothing because it was simply not available in the market. It started with a family sewing machine, a few tools; my mom taught me how to sew and passed me all their knowledge, apart from an unconditional support. Had many girls like me also looking for skirts, the corsets, strikeouts and simile leathers. He had good recept ion, c l ients also sent their ideas and asking for more m o d e l s , t h e i r e x c l u s i v e garments, and so it was also growing. Focusing mainly on the corset was also a personal admiration that I always had with this garment. Not only for

Page 21: Sopor Magazine | ISSUE 2

ing this year and they were also very good, a bit I will be bringing them.

For example, in the case of corsets, what is the time that normally takes you to perform them and how you carry out the process?

Depends on many factors, for example taking into

account everything that is the purchase of materials to the hours of work in the workshop I have four hours from some of the

most basic management, and then some have come

me to carry more than three ent i re days of work. A lso sometimes must be in He has the topic of whales, that steel apply them a couple of coats of antirust, and that carries your drying time also. In short, the time which leads me quite varies.

Today for all that is the part of

especially characterized by their corsets, but you are also other garments I saw t h e r e v e s t s , s k i r t s , accessories...

Y e s , i n w h a t i s m y presentation as you can see in the cards or the page the info r e f e r s t o " c o r s e t s a n d

accessories". Sometimes when you come with the idea of a corset always accompanies the consultation with what combine. So then I will be recommending those other items that I manage to accompany as it can be some sleeve, torerita, etc. And to build the sets also handling all part of skirts, mainly for what is night. Ve s t s s t a r t e d them work

aesthetics, but also from girl always suffered much from back and tighten me waist I relieved. So began as a kind of hobby that had a very good response, and I ended up finding my vocation.

How would you describe your designs?

My designs are basically very feminine is what I'm more inspired; What I focus the most is in the corset, it is the female figure that we have a l l women, no matter the size that is, curves are always there. Would you describe it so feminine.

I recently did a publication on Facebook where had that "I like the lace, rococo terminations, the strong contrasts and lights that dance in the dark" that sums it up a bit.

You are only garments for women or also confections for men?

I offer changes of clothes for both sexes. But I focus mainly on feminine wardrobe. From a year ago also work with a colleague who is tailor it We can also work an entire section for men. This part is still maturing and I have it posted on the p a g e , b u t s o m e c u s t o m e r s h a v e approached and we h a v e a l r e a d y w o r k e d s o m e other capping or SAC.

A s y o u s a i d klavelvet is

““FEMALE FIGURE WE HAVE ALL FEMALE FIGURE WE HAVE ALL WOMEN, NO MATTER THE SIZE THAT WOMEN, NO MATTER THE SIZE THAT

IS, CURVES ARE ALWAYS THEREIS, CURVES ARE ALWAYS THERE””

Haute Couture in the process always I try to do one or two tests before you finish it. Sometimes it can carry more, now for example I am with a quinceañera hat goes almost by the fourth round that is for her to also go looking and confirming. They are working with very fine fabrics and there is no room for error when cut, so bases and molds have to ensure well before seizing the scissors.

What is the correct way to dress up a corset?

It depends lot on each person. Today as I always said I would advise and seek to offer the best and that they are happy and compliant with what is being carried. For what is always the part of party, I am going to suggest matching it with skirts in order to give the idea of a dress. Sometimes want to be super pretty with a brace, but at the same time, they want to continue using it after the party, in such cases we went down a little the formal tone of the corset, some personal detail, which can then combine as they wish. Then what is casual night, corsets in jean, simile leather raincoats and even some satin, in general always will go well with long or short skirts, leggings, and pants,

whatever. Anyway, the most important thing is always dress it with head well high.

T h o s e m o m e n t s l i k e Halloween that you have many orders and working alone how not to go crazy? Or you're take it easy and take your time?

More or less the truth last year who was with the new brand new local thought that he was going to hit hard, but no, it was a pretty bad month. Happens that maybe on Halloween some people come seeking only a disguise and now there comes into play the issue o f your budget because it is something that will only use once. Management not also everything that is part of the fantasy, but sometimes is what the person had in mind investing. Many times it is good work that go well for Halloween, but also then be combined and continue using. Thus for example recently he left a Catwoman with a divine corset and a shim took game, but it is something that undoubtedly is going to use.

Anyway, there is always some witch, Vampire or devil, coming at the last minute then so is good to have some stock. So if I go

c r a z y o n H a l l o w e e n . . . sometimes it is very relative.

As we know well this year was he ld a parade o f Klavelvet, how was that experience?

Yes, organized it a producer of young people who came with a large proposal to go to Punta del Este. There so I decided to give

the best to hit hard with the theme of the design of Haute Couture. Were very few sets that

20|www.SOPORMAGAZINE.com

S O P O R M A G A Z I N E

Page 23: Sopor Magazine | ISSUE 2

I presented, but each one of them nicely and actually worked, t a k i n g i n t o a c c o u n t t h e characteristics of the model that was going to be going back and forth. They were two parades, one in April and another in July, the style was rather night and I took care of not to be typecast in what was "Gothic" which had a nice selection of colors and combina t ions . The d iv ine models, all professional and very good wave, the truth all very cute. Experience new, I also had to parade and we had to transfer, hairdressing, makeup, all the "chiches".

The experience was very good but very stressful, I would like to do it again but with some changed conditions, the truth is that I learned a lot, I demanded and tried to live up to and the best thing was that I made new friends.

No doubt the quality of your work is impressive, but beyond that a brand always seeks to highlight, what they consider you differs f r o m o t h e r b r a n d s i n Uruguay and the rest of Latin America?

The truth I have not thought so high. I always played with the

letter of humility, but I know t h a t q u a l i t y w o r k a n d personalized service that I offer that what most stands out. Also happens that I am in the situation of having to defend my product which comes from outside, above all Chinese coming in series and cheap corsets. The truth that in terms that is sometimes frustrating when many clients come with corsets of other sides or that have been commissioned by EBay and need to darn them, modify them or make some miracle so they can use it because the cheap ended them out very expensive.

What I like most of the staff is the face of clients when they try on clothes and they are look beautiful is priceless, is what I like the most. I want to paste over with corset, I want to get to the point where women when thinking of what please also have it as one option.

D e s i g n e r s t h a t y o u admire...

This started it as a thing that I was born in and I am not a follower of fashion, really. I am very much guided by what I like or dislike, a personal vision of aesthetics, am not very updated. There is a brand that I like -

whose designer and model is Sharon Ehman - is "Toxic Vision"; what she makes me love... I love, and besides I asked and sent pictures of her many times to see if I can make them "that", I admire a lot their contrasts, from extreme to the care and fine. Those productions of photos so carefully on the one hand and on the other so crazy and extreme. Use your designs from Kat Von D to the Behemoth...

It has been a great pleasure for us that we have received and remains for us to thank you for having chatted with us to learn more about your work. Finally, something you want to add...

Thank you obviously and hopefully go super well, and soon we will be together again..

BODYPAINTING ARTIST

A GREAT ARTIST IN THE BODYPAINTING ART WHO DOUBTLESSLY LEAVES HIS SCENT IN

THE BODYPAINTING WORLD.

Page 42: Sopor Magazine | ISSUE 2

We have the pleasure to talk with Fernando Machado, a bodypainting artist who honor us with a great design for Sopor Magazine, tell us, how was this idea coming to your mind?

Fernando: I like the Mehndi designs very much – it is the Hindu style those, who are made with henna tattooing the skin temporary-, it always took my attention and I drew it frequently even only using a pencil. Due to I have some practice working with the dark light, I thought it was something good and easy to make. I had done a few drafts previously, but I think n o t a c o m p l e t e design of this. I think I have not done it in UV by then, so I said ̈ It is good to make something elaborated¨. Working with the U V e f f e c t h a s a l i t t l e o f spontaneity, you can work fast with it; personally, I do not like working on the details of the bodypainting because you an p lay wi th your bra in. You challenge it and then the brain completes those spaces, that is why my art is visual, so today that is why I decided to play with all those elements in your design.

When did you start with the bodypainting art?

Fernando: I started 3 years ago with the bodypainting; my beginnings come from the plastic sculpture I studied in my town –I am from Tacuerumbó-. In 1 9 9 7 w h e n I c a m e t o Montevideo to study along with

the university, I kept practicing my arts. 3 years ago, I met one friend who was starting as a make-up artist and said to me ¨Nando come, you are good at drawing¨ it was something fast, I never thought I would end up working on this.

That is how I started, at first I was self-taught and perfecting my own techniques. My previous experience in arts made of this a natural transition, although I had to learn how to work in a different field. One year later, I had my own work team. Imagin Art it the project I am in charge right now and which is formed by make-up artists, we take either private or

p u b l i c events. T h i s b r o u g h t m o r e

freedom to what I wanted to do, and it was the bodypainting. When I travel to USA for the first time I started to take coursed with ¨los groso¨. It was a great experience, further the competences, is to have the chance to study with the people you admire and to get to USA, Austria, to have classes and talk with all that amazing people. E v e r y t i m e I w a s i n a competence I looked for a chance to take a class, but after all, you have to pay it, because there not too much support on this aspect.

How is the people reaction?

Fernando: People love it, not only my job, people l ike almost everything w h o m a k e s a

visual impact, and it is great when people discover the body became work of art, that is the transformation people love, that is the most beautiful; when you can generate other sensations in other person, that is magic.

Do you think it has been accepted in Uruguay?

F e r n a n d o : Uruguay has a b i g c u l t u r a l tradition, t h e r e a r e many artis

who have made bodypainting for many years, there great artists and I do not see Uruguay as the narrow mind kind. There is people who does not understand this art, but I think they admire our creations due to the beauty in them and the feelings it expresses. The people in Uruguay has evolved a lot in that aspect.

You told us you began with the plastic arts. How did you discovered your taste for arts?

Fernando: I think I was born with the art in my blood. My parents are 2 teachers in a rural area and in the 80s my mother was one of those teachers who made everything by hand, there were not computers. She was in charge of decorating the whole classroom and I have this memory of mi mother working with the mimeograph –it was an old copy machine- doing stuff for her classes, always drawing and creating, I think I got the taste from her.

My brother is a musician and a composer, we do not have an art lineage, we more like the first generation and I think it was remarkable. I insisted to my parents to a l low to s tudy painting, and I started when I was 7 years, I finish my studies in d r a w i n g a n d p a i n t i n g i n Tacuarembó and began with my first exhibition when I came to Montevideo. I participated in expositions and studied with Michael Verdier, he is a very good teacher and he was the one who opened my mind in the art world.

I studied medicine for many

year –I only needed 2 years to finish it- everyone says ¨you have to finish¨ but it stopped making me happy, besides life is too short and I was grown up. When you dawn on and say ¨If this is what I wanted to do, I have to do it now¨ and I am not to be afraid for what I leave behind.

My mother and father gave me the idea of doing something that makes you happy, further what other expected for you with the medicine and law careers in that moment, my parents are the biggest thing to me.

UV seem to be your favorite technique, right?

Fernando: I am not sure if it is my favorite but I do enjoy it very much and due to in Uruguay is not very common I am very popular in this field. I loved it and I have searched and studied about it and had given my own workshops. It is different to the conventional make-up, it is magic in movement, you let your body to be seen in a different way, it is like light coming through the shadows, there is the magic, to see how it changes and how the textures are transformed. The body fusions with an empty space and the only thing you see are lines you made in the air. and then, if the model makes a performance or play with his/her own body, it is beauty in movement. To see how the dynamic who gets the art under the effect of the dark light it is hallucinating, i t i s something is not expr

essed in other arts, only in the bodypainting.

In your fanpage and social s i te we can see many designs wi th animals , landscapes and nature...

Fernando: I like to vary, even in the bodypainting I do not have a conventional style defined, but I like to do what I feel in that moment. Obviously, due to my classical roots I take into account the landscapes and animals and I really like it, but I do not get focus only on that. When you see other artist and see the way they use thei r techniques they motivate you and you say ¨I like that too¨ and that is how I keep trying. I am always learning.

What are the essential tools in to make bodypainting?

Fernando: Pass ion and attitude. The materials change, the models and if you do not have passion, you do not have anything. You hold those things

that help you and you c a n b e e i t h e r

good, bad or regular. But if y o u d o

that?¨ either as model or artist. I think social networks have helped us a lot with the people.

What would you advice to those persons interested in the art of bodypainting?

F e r n a n d o : Ta k e y o u r paintbrush and start, because this is about love at first sight; once you start painting the bodies and even more for the artists is how you finally get the rhythm of it. It is like finishing a circle I think in my case the change from the paper to the skin was an evolution. It was as if something was revealed after painting on the canvas for many years, it is difficult to find the words to express that.

What are your projects in a future?

Fernando: My idea is to return year by year to the competences, to reach the world competence in Austria that is celebrated every J u l y a n d t o u p d a t e m y knowledge in the art. And to offer a better service to my customers because the practice makes the best. I am going to give a workshop about UV effect in

November in U S A , a n d s i n c e summer next year prepare

my 2016. How was your experience in Austria? How many were the participants?

Fernando: In Austria, we are talking about that there were art ists from more than 50 countries, it is the biggest thing

end up bad. Obviously, you need your entire team, and

the body painting is not only about the artist, your model is very important because he/she is the one who would raise up your work with the attitude and presence. Your photographer is very important also, because it is an ephemeral art, so without him you are not aware of what is loss.T h e w h o l e t e a m : a r t i s t , photographer and model needs to work in harmony to get the expected result.

What kind of events are you asked to do this works?

Fernando: Mainly in nightclubs, but it is a resource who can be

exploited in public. In Uruguay people is not accustomed to use these kind of events to promote their products and I always tell to me customers that is a shame they do not take advantage of it. Imagine none is getting a photo for a beer brand publicity; if you have your body covered in paint with the brand of that beer everyone would like to take a photo and p o s t i t o n F a c e b o o k ,

Instagram, twitter; well then you have publicity for free because it

quickly gets viral. That is something our entrepreneurs have not noticed. And

then events of all k ind, recent ly I w e n t t o a

Hal loween party and the people little by little is encourage to do bodypainting for the party and they are losing their embarrassment.

I think the social networks have helped a lot because they are an easy way to access to information, now the information is only by clicking the left button on your mouse. And it has helped the bodypainting, because the people sees it and says ¨Oh! I like that¨ and those who are more daring say ¨I love that! Why do not I try

for us; you are with the people that made the modern history of the bodypainting, and is like a dream. This year was my first World Cup and I had the honor of getting the 3rd place next to one of the most talented artists of UV: Liliana Hopman (Colombia), she relied on me, invited me to participate with her and we made a beautiful friendship that was transmitted to our work and impressed the jury. The highest point of my career without a doubt. Once you go you fall, you have to return!; It is like a big family bodypainting in the world, a large community that meets annually to celebrate the art. All of that is a small town in the mountains 300 km from Vienna, in summer; the framework is really fantastic.

A s m o d e l y o u have to

be very patient because you have been there for hours, right? How do you resist all those hours?

Jessi: I like the bodypainting on me and I feel comfortable, more over I love art and I feel the harmony when he paints me. I have always liked the bodypainting .

How long have you been a modeling?

Fernando: Even though Jessi already has experience as a model recently we did together his first bodypainting. We meet to chat and she told me that the idea he liked very much, and I saw her with a great curiosity.

I would like to meet with the models before; I like to know what their expectations are and what kind of model I need for every occasion. There are also technical aspects to talk, and also is a way to get to know and come in confidence that the day of the session all flows naturally and is an enjoyable experience. In this case we met and then schedule the meeting.

With Jessi it's like 4th or 5th work we do, she has very good attitude towards the camera and a great expressiveness. We choose model depending on how the work will be shown, the same is not a model for photography, a catwalk model, or for a performance, she has a barbaric plastic, delicate movements and that in a session makes you break out the design.

WE INTERVIEWED CRIS CRIS, AN URUGUAYAN PHOTOGRAPHER WHO CURRENTLY IS MAKING SETS FOR THE SUICIDE GIRLS, SHE TELLS US

ABOUT HER EXPERIENCE IN THE PHOTOGRAPHY WORLD AND HOW IT HAS GROWN IN URUGUAY.

Welcome Cris! Thank you for sharing some of your time with us. Let us start, tell us about your beginnings as a photographer.

Well, when I was 13 or 14 years, I got interested in the visual stuff at first, everything related to the design thing, everything had to be with communication in an image. Then in 2005, I got interested in the photography and the next year I got a digital camera and I started taking pictures of everything, self-portraits, flowers or every object. This was very useful to me because I could learn about illumination, arrangements, and edition of the images.

In the 2012 while I was studying in Bellas Artes, I got my digital camera reflex and I started directly with the portraits, I did not have an objective at first. Since last year I started to focus more in the fashion photography, and to search reasons about it and to go deep in what I want to express.

What do you take into account while taking photography?

Well, first the model, my photo depends on the model because is where I take my ideas and I take into account the other details (space, clothes, make-up, inspiration). When is time to take the photo I look for my mode ls to be na tu ra l , t o be t h e m s e l v e s , a s w e l l a s t h e illumination and the framing. I am not interested in the classic style but sometimes I take some techniques.

Who are you mentors in photography world?

My first inspiration is Ellen Von Unwerth, but there other who also inspire me like; Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts, Guido Argentini, Bob Carlos Clarke, Eric Kroll, Chas Ray Krider, Josefine Jonsson, Roy Stuart, Tatiana Gerusova, etc.

What do you think about the photography field in Uruguay?

I think is complicated, it is a small field who has not many ´possibilities neither to improve nor expand and I do not see too much potential in it; sometimes you see good stuff that is not valuable and sometimes you see horrible stuff that is overvalued. Photography to me, has to be art, but in Uruguay it does not matter. I also think that it is necessary to innovate our field because it is always the same ideas.

What aspects do you think would have the chance to improve?

In my own opinion, in relation with the models, I think they should be more inventive; I feel they are not doing their best to express what they really want to say. I think they should go deep into that aspect. Talking about the photography I see editions that I do not really like it and the production, I feel they have not developed it at its best. And about the portraits, there are many possibilities, but I think they are not taking advantage of them, it might be because of the money, sometimes when they have the money to do something better they just ignore them.

Your photos have an excellent quality and I really like your determination, but in your opinion. What do you think stand out in your own job?

Edition is very important to me because it completes my creation; it is something that helps you during the whole photo, minute by minute, in everything you do until the end of it. Also I take care of the esthetic, at least it is something I put effort; not only in the model of the esthetic, I am talking about every detail, clothes, make-up, hair, location, I think all those details help my photos to stand out; because it is something different, something you do not see often.

I think it is very important to be original and mark a difference. How can a photographer achieve that?

To me, a photographer is not only theory, you might be able to know all the techniques, you know how to use the lights and a lot of tools that help you to make a good photo, but at the end, I think it is more about mentality

S O P O R M A G A Z I N E

at the time you take the photo. What I mean is, that you have your own perspective, to see what is around you, to be able to see the possibilities to make your project.

To have a prior idea of what you want to express and I think for all those things you really need to investigate. It is not only about buying a camera the first day and then start taking pictures of everything by just pushing a button; because there is when the person is lack of ideas of what he or she is doing.

I think it is a way in which you can change your mind, because you might have started studying all about photos but as you are advancing in your project you want to show something different and that is respected. But I think it is a process that really needs to be taken into account and it cannot be done from one day to another.

Tell us about your last project...

The last project was a little different of what I am used to –I just published only one picture-, we made a body painting of this idea about ¨Space Girl¨ and it was a little different but I kept my personal touch. The girl was painted entirely, I had two make-up artist and someone who helped us with the management, it was pretty good.

What happen with all those unpublished photos?

From all those unpublished photos I select about 40 of them and then I give them to the model who participated, we are always going to have them, but I just publish about 3 or 5 and the rest I keep them. I like to select my photos because it is boring to see the same pictures.

Taking up the edition. Do you like to work with too much edition or just a little?

I do know what you have in mind about too much or a little, but to me, too much edition would be to exaggerate with the use of Photoshop as if you looked like plastic, I am not like that, that is not what I do. What I sometimes use in my edition is montage, not to add things but to erase them. For example, in the last session was about bodypainting, but the girl had a bikini, she was not naked so we used the edition to disappear the

50|www.SOPORMAGAZINE.com

S O P O R M A G A Z I N E

Page 53: Sopor Magazine | ISSUE 2

bikini, because the idea was the girl to appear with his entire body.

The body painting is good and it is something is being used lately...

Yes, it is good it is another element and I think it depends and how it is used. It is good to use it artistically but keeping the style. I did not know how it would be, to me it was something new, I had this idea for months and we did it outdoors with rocks and waters.

In your daily life, do you think a lot or not?

Yes, I am thinking about taking pictures all the time –ha, ha- Every time I have the chance, when I go to bed, while I walk on the street or when I see people, I think of taking photos of them –ha, ha- all the time.

What do you like the most about the portrait photography?

What I like about taking photos is to have the chance to know the other person. There is people I get to know only by taking photos, that is how I know them; and it is the same when I choose people that I never had seen in my life. When know them I notice they have similar personalities as if I have had the chance to choose them through their personalities.

What I like about portraits is that they allow you to know a person from a different perspective, it not like the one we are used to, through the camera you have a different relation with the person.

What are your goals?

Actually, I have set the goal to go forward and to learn as usual. Moreover, I have the objective to turn to the commercial side; I just do not want to do art, but to sell it. I have the idea to make a magazine, editorial; I am inclined to that side. More to the fashion, but not the common fashion in the typical magazine, I might keep the technical side like in every magazine, but I want to keep my personal touch, because it is like my brand and if I do not do it, I am not being myself.

There are many boys and girls who aspire to be models and they are very common to get nervous in front the camera due to different factors. What would you recommend them?

I think is more about the personality, you have to know if you are person who really wants to show himself or herself, but I think in essence everyone would love the idea to do it. It is like something we all have but it is inhibit because is other person who holds the camera.

It is important to know the p h o t o g r a p h e r b e f o r e , I personally know my models and t r y t o h a v e a n a t u r a l conversation with them, I think it depends on the photographer, it depends on him to make a trustable environment with the model and that is how he or she would loosen up, because there is not agreement only photos.

My advice is not to feel pressure, it is just an experience

but there is not a correct or incorrect way to do it. It is a way to know yourself and it is very i m p o r t a n t p e a c e i n t h e photographer to help the model.

We are pleased for your time Cris; it has been a great to have the chance to talk to you about your job. Before W e fi n i s h , i s t h e r e something you would like say?

It has been a pleasure, and love your magazine I am a fan already –ha, ha-, I hope you keep going forwards.

We give them welcome, Victor, Gaby, we are pleased to have them in this issue of Sopor Magazine. What do body t rans format ions represent for you?

Vic tor : I have d i f fe ren t parameters of beauty and so I feel very much at home with my aesthetics despite the fact that I always find something to add.

Gaby: Bodily transformations for me are aesthetic importance and it will also meet w i t h t h e image that represents m e , t h a t exp ressed m y personality.

Victor: While people who are us about is handled with respect I d o n ' t h a v e n o p r o b l e m interacting with the public, either in events or on the street, it's fun and I enjoy it. It is also part of our work when we are hired for conventions, programs and others, so it is part of this show!

Gaby: We take it quite normal

it is already part of our everyday life. We can also find different r e a c t i o n s , not a l l are g o o d , b u t wh i l e t hey are handled with respect a lways we are willing to take a picture or Exchange an idea and even some t imes we a re

Gaby: Besides love, what unites us is having in common the pleasure of working for what we like, live with art 24 hours a day, have fought for what we wanted back to back and the love that we have with our 4 legged baby being 17, that is insane but we cannot live without them.

Victor: I am covering these areas, expanding my collection of skulls that they fascinate me

Gaby: Actually, I have thought about various designs, the question is to find the time, the situation and the tattoo artist. We are going to a Convention and we found some friends, we see the design that you like or something that we

Its a pleasure to welcome you to this space of Sopor Magazine. Giving a tour of your beginning, how did t h i s m u s i c a l p r o y e c t began?

After many years playing in different bands and different sty les of music, more the difficulty of maintaining these bands was the main reason why I decided to create Universal Theory, a personal project of study - for now - where any reason, idea or style is welcome.

What i s the theme to highlight the band? what are you inspired when composing?

The theme is main ly to express the emotions of life and when composing I think that before writing a song, you need to have a reason to write it and each song tells a story, a thought, desires, fantasies, one day or an experience in my life and I try to transmit it through the lyrics and music.

What is the most significant song for you and why?

It is difficult to tell which the song more meaningful is for us. All are important since they have their history.

Delving deep into the name, Universal Theory, what does it mean for you?

I usually read science books and when I thought about this name very used in these books, I loved it, since there are many universal theories; they include the emotions of life where these

universal.

Being that they a r e o n l y t w o

members in the band, how can carry out all the m u s i c a l a n d l y r i c a l production process?

With much effort, many hours of work and sacrificing other activities and trying to combine all this with the regular work, family, friends, in short, social life though does not give much time for it.

On his latest work "The Most Attractive Force", have where it emerged his inspiration and answers had by the public?

As up to now "The Most Attractive Force" has emerged from experiences, desires, t h o u g h t s w h i c h w e h a v e captured them in lyrics and

music. So far it has had an

excellent response from the public and media. We are r e c e i v i n g v e r y g o o d comments and messages on all our social networks.

What are your plans for the 2016?

Continue promoting "The Most Attractive Force" Apart

from start to compose new songs and who knows, maybe

something else.

In the course of the years of existence of Universal T h e o r y, h o w w a s t h e support in Spain?

It has been good, considering that in Spain this musical style and more if possible our that encompasses not only Metal but other trends, it has a very small public but almost to everyone that have reached you Universal Theory music, liked and has given us their support.

Currently, what points are considered that they are fundamental for a band to

succeed?

It is difficult because success depends on many factors but if you can be basic convey to the listener the emotion you are trying to express and attitude.

A pleasure for us have been able to learn a little more about his band, we wish you a great start to the year and a constant success . Before say ing goodbye, a few last words wishing to add...

It has been a pleasure talking with you and I invite all readers t ha t you hea r and en j oy Universal Theory in the following

best along with the people they loved and those who think about their lack of interest in those moments that resulted in a waste of time. Every single moment is important and enjoying it either alone or accompany is not going to hurt you nor get away from your dreams, it is only about enjoying the time! Enjoy a sunny day, a rainy day, family, or a quiet moment to think, enjoy an ice cream or a salad in I assure you that every day will be valuable in your memories and you will not regret about that moment because you lived it as if it were the last.

Ge t a w a y f r o m pessimism: One of the most important activities

is to get away from the pessimist people. Getting along with negative people provokes negative results. If by thinking about any of

those persons attracts

negative attitude, it is time to get away from them; bad habits are like a kind of virus t h a t e a s i l y s p r e a d s everywhere and with those who step on their way will end up in a live of misery. It is much better to get along with the people who makes us feel harmony and pass on enthusiasm. Find more information about this topic i n t he r ead ing ¨Tox i c relationships¨ in our first n u m b e r i n ¨ S o p o r Magazine¨.

Physical Activity: They are another way to separate f r o m u n h a p p i n e s s .

Make your t ime to do physical activity, either sports, walks, ride a bicycle; do not stop unless you need to take a break from this kind of activities. It revitalizes you, your mood improves, and you will not suffer of sleeplessness, calms your anxiety, and

Happiness is something many people tend to get riff of just because they

think what they need for happiness is out of their reach, but if we wrongly think happiness is one goal in our future, well, we need to reconsider it. Because by having this fake theory is what makes us live in an unbalance world in our present, and that makes us feel unhappiness and life does not stop while our unhappiness consumes our time. Find out the reason of your unhappiness and a way to end up the routine in the following lines.

Live the moment: Live everyday as if it was the last one. Terminally ill

people are the ones who wonder about the passing of their lives and in this case exist only two answers; those who recognize have enjoyed their lives at their

suppresses depression. If that were not enough, the physical activity of your choice avoids monotony because you can do it anywhere; varying helps not to end watching television or playing videogames. Doubtlessly you will feel more active, healthy, and your mood will not allow you to stay at home and that way you will can enjoy the fresh air and meet new people.

Gratitude: If you do not use gratitude in your life, it is time for you to start

doing it! It is not necessary to be faithful; because you can express your gratitude, whoever you think deserves it, either you or a special moment. ¨Thanks to this weather I can hang out with my friends¨ or if someone made you a favor don not hesitate in being grateful with him or her. If you are self-confidence or not, thankfulness shows the

sincerity we all can handle if we want and automatically we make that person to feel better. We are not slaves, so it is important to thank what someone does for you. It is our job to thank people and if they were you parents, brothers or sisters do not think trust is implied in grateful because you are making a mistake. Just be grateful!

Help: Never stop helping others. It is admirable to see how a person does

something for a person or nature just because he or she wishes. If you think it is good to criticize that person who does not help the old woman who barely can cross the street, you better make the difference and

and be an example to those who at the end, will feel embarrassed. Good actions make us feel positive and after all that is what we want to feel, happiness with all we can save in our lives. Do not waste your time and understand that you can start to do something good for yourself and for your life; and if you really value who you are, you are going to be constant. To finish there is a wise phrase I want you to remember:

¨Life is very simple, but we i n s i s t o n m a k e i t complicated¨

Release yourself from those bonds, be free and just look back to learn from your mistakes.

NIRVANATo Boddah pronounced

Speaking from the tongue of an experienced simpleton who obviously would rather be an emasculated, infantile complainee. This note should be pretty easy to understand. All the warnings from the punk rock 101 courses over the years. Since my first introduction to the, shall we say, ethics involved with independence and the embracement of your community has proven to be very true. I have not felt the excitement of listening to as well as creating music along with reading and writing for too many years now. I feel guilty beyond words about these things. For example when we're backstage and the lights go out and the manic roar of the crowd begins it doesn't affect the way in which it did for Freddy Mercury who seemed to love and relish in the love and adoration from the crowd. Which is something I totally admire and envy. The fact is I cannot fool you. Any one of you. It simply is not fair to you or me. The worst crime I can think of would be to rip people off by faking it and pretending as if I am having 100 % fun. Sometimes I feel as if I should have a punch in time clock before I walk out on stage. I have tried everything within my power to appreciate it, and I do. God, believe me I do but it is not enough.

I appreciate the fact that I and we have affected and entertained a lot of people. I must be one of one of those narcissists who only appreciate things when they are gone. I am too sensitive. I need to be slightly numb in order to regain the enthusiasm I once had as a child. On our last three tours I've had a much better appreciation for all the people I've known personally and as fans of our music, but I still can't get over the frustration, the guilt and empathy I have for everyone. There is good in all of us and I think I simply love people too much. So much that it makes me feel

too fucking sad. The sad little, sensitive, unappreciative, Pisces Jesus man! Why don't you just enjoy it? I do not know. I have a goddess of a wife who sweats ambition and empathy and a daughter who reminds me too much of what I used to be.

Full of love and joy kissing every person she meets because everyone is good and will do her no harm. And that terrifies me to the point to where I can barely function. I cannot stand the thought of Frances becoming the miserable self-destructive, death rocker that I have become. I have it good, very good, and I'm grateful, but since the age of seven I've become hateful towards all humans in general. Only because it seems so easy for people to get along, and have empathy. Empathy! Only because I love and feel for people too much I guess. Thank you all from the pit of my burning nauseous stomach for your letters and concern during the past years. I'm too much of an erratic, moody baby! I don't have the passion anymore and so remember, its better to burn out than to fade away. Peace, love, empathy. Kurt Cobain

for the Smell Like Teen Spirit video and the same year they won the best new artist award. The next year they win the Grammy with In Bloom in the category of the best alternative video, and in 1996, they win the award for the Best Alternative M u s i c A l b u m w i t h M T V Unplugged in New York.

In the 2000, the disbanded NIRVANA wins the Guinness Record for the most voted band; this is just a part of their success and their influence into the alternative rock world. Bands like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and others like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters sang their songs and make covers of them. Even nowadays, NIRVANA is one of the bands with more influences in alternative music around the world and as we can see, in the punk and grunge music in our present.

This was a brief summary of what NIRVANA achieved and does in the rock music world. On the other hand, there is this story

n 1987, in a place from I Aberdeen Washington, USA, born NIRVANA with

Kurt Cobain as the vocalist and leader of the band, along with Krist Novosetic playing the bass , they bo th were the founders who stayed together until the end of the band in 1994.

After trying with different drummers is Dave Grohl who gets the post in 1990, and is he who stays with the other guys until the end. Between 1987 and 1989, they start their musical career with the album Bleach, which is very influenced by bands like; The Melvins and specially those bands from the 70s like B l a c k S a b b a t h a n d L e d Zeppelin and others. In my opinion, is the best album along with MTV Unplugged in New York.

In 1991 and 1993, their success began with the albums Nevermind and In Utero with sales who reached the 30 and 15 million records sold respectively and with them, the MTV Video Music Awards award in 1992,

of his leader. Kurt Cobain was born Aberdeen on February 20th in 1967, he got married with the actress and singer Courtney Love which he had a daughter named Frances Bean Cobain, who is also an artist.

Cobain found and leaded the band; he practically invented everything the band was based on. He also made the plain logo we already know; plainness which was not expressed in their music, on the contrary it

is full of mixed feelings and his conflicts were showed in it, songs full either with

violence, love to his people or sometimes full of anger against

society. That is how he became in an i d o l t o y o u n g people in the 80´s and 90s; he was such an idol that his fans created the grunge style b y d r e s s i n g d i s t r e s s e d jeans, untied s n e a k e r s , s c r u f f y h o o d i e , disheveled hair and indifferent behavior. Kurt´s fans try to adopt that outfit and h i s b e h a v i o r , something even Kurt was not aware of, because he was under drug effects and his managers and friends handled his own way to get Kurt dress on and send him to the

continued consuming heroin, activity that often their daughter watched and that created a hate and love relat ion with her parents, mainly with Courtney; which she lost contact.

I think he never achieved to be listened, people listened to his music not him, so he lost hope and that feed his desire to commit suicide, this is what we know like an addict; everyone cared about the songs and the music but not about Kurt and his ghosts.

While we read the letter he left to his wife and daughter, he reflects himself clearly. On April

1st in 1997 Kurt Cobain e s c a p e d f r o m t h e rehabilitation clinic in Los Angeles where he was hospitalized, seven days later he is found with a shotgun wound on his head. His fears and the heroin had made havocs in his life, a life under the music, drugs and conflicts to not to d r a g h i s w i f e a n d daughter to that world full

of pain.I do not know, I would like to tell

you more about this idol in the punk and grunge music about his life in the music, but I am afraid that is all… Just sorrow…

So, my friends I am serve myself some coffee and going to listen to the MTV Unplugged album.

That is all for today and I hope this story shows what is behind glamour and success.
