Danielle Scherman is alwaysstarting something new.

She started her own eventscompany called Soiree Events.She started her own online net-working organization for eventplanners. And she started agroup called Social Wahines sowomen in Hawaii could have funand network together.

“I decided to get all my girl-friends together, and we did aclothing swap,” explainsScherman, a Kalaheo graduate.“None of them knew each other,so to introduce each other, weeach did a one-minute pitch.Everyone loved it. They thoughtit was so cool.”

At first they gathered at thegirlfriends’ homes — then itgrew. With 300 members so far,all through word of mouth,Social Wahines is still growing.Membership is free, and mem-bers pay $10 per event to attendmonthly functions, which haveincluded a wine tasting, spa night,sample sale and a craft party.

The impetus for starting SocialWahines in Hawaii is thatScherman lived in Manhattan forfour years, where she was usedto attending networking groups,which were done differentlythan they were here. She returnedto Hawaii in 2006 to spend timewith her family, as her mom wasdiagnosed with breast cancer.

“I needed more stimulation,”recalls the entrepreneur aboutwhy she felt there was a need forwomen, specifically youngwomen, to network. That’s whyshe created Social Wahines.

Scherman’s accomplishmentswhile living in New York City

include starting the New YorkEvent Planners association,

which is a free e-mail-based dis-cussion group of more than 3,000

members, as well as starting thewebsite www.eventheadquar-ters.com.

While back in Hawaii, inhonor of her mother, who is nowin remission, she created the CoolKailua Nights Block Party andHealth Awareness Fair, whichdebuted last year. The next oneis planned for Feb. 2, 2008.

The next Social Wahines gath-ering will be a pearl tasting,which compares a pearl to finewine, at Accent Honolulu at theIBM Building, 1240 Ala Moana
