Dear Readers,
Since its foundation 25 years ago, the key to TechnoAlpin’s
success has been its ongoing pursuit of innovation and effi-
ciency. After the fusion with MYNEIGE in 2012, TechnoAlpin
now boasts two centers of excellence for research and devel-
opment. Thus the know-how held by the international leader for
fan-gun production was merged with that of the forerunner in
lance-production. The result is impressive: this year two new
products will be placed on the market, officially unveiled during
the Interalpin fair.
The first is the TL6 lance, with a totally new mechanical tech-
nology that takes advantage of its strengths at both marginal
and optimal temperatures. Thanks to specialised nucleators
this lance requires less compressed air than its peers. The
second product is the TL6 which sets new standards for ease
of use.
During the spring, TechnoAlpin will also unveil a new fan gun,
the TF10 Piano. The gun combines the advantages of the con-
ventional TF10 with a sound-proofing cover that absorbs the
noise emitted by turbine rotation. These characteristics make
it the ideal choice for snow-making near residential areas or
protected natural reserves, where sound-emission limits are
particularly strict.

er and more efficient. Thanks to the expansion works
performed last summer, the resort was able to open on
time, making the most of each and every snow-making
window.
Axalp is a small resort in the Bernese Oberland, at
1,400 m asl. Five ski-lift systems and approximately 15
km of slope make this area particularly suited to chil-
dren and families. But that’s not all. Besides alpine ski-
ing, the resort offers marvelous, easy excursions with
snowshoes and a cross-country run; all steeped in the
incredible mountain scenery at the foot of the magnifi-
cent Brienz lake.
In recent years, minor modifications have been steadily made
to the TechnoAlpin snow-making system. Until last winter, the
generators supplied snow to the slopes with a small pump that
drew the necessary water from a small drinking-water source.
In the summer of 2014, the operators decided to build a
2,500 m³ underground reservoir. Near the basin, TechnoAlpin
has built a fully automatic pumping plant. What’s more, each
pit is now automated with data cabling. The resort also has the
latest version of ATASSplus, making snow-making even fast-

was also started on the new “Polten” reservoir, which
is intended to optimize the system’s water supply. The
project also included the replacement of the current
4-seat chair lift with a new, modern 8-seat chair lift,
the “Polten”.
The slopes of the Saalbach report are currently
snow-covered by around 700 guns. This makes Saal-
bach one of the customers with the most TechnoAlpin
snow guns. On February 21 and February 22, the
Men’s World Cup hit the slopes of Saalbach Hinterg-
lemm, for the Downhill and Super G events.
Not long ago, TechnoAlpin was proud to welcome a
delegation of managers of the various companies that
make up the resort at its Bolzano headquarters. In
addition to visiting the production areas, well-stocked
warehouse and the offices, the customers had the
opportunity to enjoy some local attractions around
Bolzano.
The Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Resort (Austria) offers ski
lovers almost 200 km of slopes. Ongoing investments are re-
quired to guarantee the operation of systems in such a vast
area. During the last 15 years, the investments made by the
three companies that form this ski resort (Saalbacher Berg-
bahnen GmbH, Hinterglemmer Bergbahnen GmbH and BBSH
Bergbahnen Saalbach Hinterglemm GmbH) reached 300 million
Euro. The company’s objective is to constantly maintain state-
of-the-art infrastructure and to be able to ensure a reliable
snow guarantee for all visitors. The partnership with Techno-
Alpin has been strong for many years now. The first guns from
the snow experts were delivered to Saalbach Hinterglemm back
in 1992. Since then, all the local companies rely on Techno-
Alpin when it comes to guaranteeing snow cover.
This summer there was a great deal of activity in six differ-
ent areas of the resort: Zwölferkogel, Reiterkogel, Westgipfel,
Schönleiten, Kohlmais, Reiterkogel Ost and Jausern. 52x TF10s

and 3x V3 lances were installed. But that’s not all: Techno-

TechnoAlpin to build a snow-making system along the legend-
ary Sarenne run. Sarenne is the world’s longest black piste
(18 km): it starts from the top of Pic Blanc, at 3,330 m asl,
and runs to the resort in the valley, covering a total change in
altitude of more than 2,000 m.
TechnoAlpin’s work has mainly involved the installation of a
new snow-making network that is approximately 6,000 m
long. Expansion of the system envisages the installation of

have 1,510 m³ of water available for production of snow. The
machine room also has two compressors designed to feed air
to the snow guns.
Alpe d’Huez has long relied on TechnoAlpin (formerly York
NEIGE). The snow-making system in this French resort has
around 560 automatic pits: it was the first to install them,
as early as 1988. Moreover, Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine has
nearly 900 snow guns with which it can guarantee perfect
snow cover all winter.

(snow guns, valves, software and PLCs), but also of
other components in a complete snow-making sys-

to best advise the customer and truly meet their
needs, our staff is versed in the proportions of the
overall snow-making system, the water system and
machine room. For all of these prerequisites Isabelle
is at the top of her game. Naturally, the TechnoAlpin
sales team cannot perform its job properly without
support from the technical designers in the engi-
neering office.
After having studied engineering at the Institut National des
Sciences Appliquées in Lyon, France, and after working for
EDF and France Air, Isabelle joined the team at York Neige
(today TechnoAlpin France) in 2000 as sales representative.
Being based in Toulouse (in south-western France), and given
that she speaks Spanish, she was assigned the territory cov-

Isabelle travels a great deal and is often at the customer’s
premises or worksite. The peak sales season runs from
mid-winter to the end of the summer. Isabelle is the key con-

customers may have. Her goal is to hone in on the customer’s
needs and problems so she can make the right decisions and
thus increase customer satisfaction.
Isabelle describes her job like this: “The snow-making industry
is quite unusual and a bit “magical”, involving interesting peo-
ple.” And she adds: “Working on a project, custom designed
for each client, being involved simultaneously in the technical,
commercial and executive phases of the project allow me to
perform a wide range of activities and give me a rather broad
view of the system. I find this highly motivating.”

In launching the TF10, TechnoAlpin has once again raised the
bar in the field of snow-making systems. The enormous snow
output, both in borderline conditions and at cold temperatures,
the vast projection range and the integrated pivot mechanism
make the TF10 the top-selling fan gun in the TechnoAlpin
range. The feedback after two years is amazing. Customers
all over the world had been very pleasantly surprised by the
low noise level of the TF10. Thanks to its internal motor and
rotational speed of 1460 rpm, the TF10 boasts reduced noise
emission and a low-impact frequency. Now the engineering de-
partment at TechnoAlpin has gone one step further with the
introduction of the TF10 Piano.
more power, less noise…TechnoAlpin is extending its range of fan guns this year with the addition of the TF10 Piano. It combines the
merits of the TF10 with additional sound insulation and the option of speed reduction.

Reinhard Egger, snow-maker for the Skiliftzentrum Ger-
los resort (Austria), praised the TF10 Piano with these
words: “The TF10 was already rather quiet: the Piano
version is even more so. This winter we did not re-
ceive any complaints from the city, not even when the
generator was running at full steam.” Graziano Tarter,
snow-making manager for Funivie Buffaure SpA (Italy)
was equally satisfied with the low noise levels, both
at full operation and in silent mode: “This winter we
set the machine 50 m from the houses, and we nev-
er received a single complaint. The machine has an
enormous spraying range and snow quality was always
perfect.”
Likewise, Balzer Arpagaus, of Weisse Arena Laax
(SUI) and Florian Schalber, snow-making technician at
Söllereck Obersdorf (Germany), were impressed by the
low noise of the TF10 Piano. The quality was steady,
the range impressive and use in the vicinity of residen-
tial centers optimal.
A new sound insulation cladding absorbs the noise made by the
turbine. The compressor is naturally oil-free and has modified
air filters and a sealed soundproof cover providing additional
noise insulation. In particularly sensitive areas the TF10 Piano
can be operated at partial load thanks to an inverter integrated
in the electric cabinet. The motor speed is then reduced from
1460 rpm to 1170 rpm.
The TF10 Piano also features tried and tested components, such
as the quadrijet nozzles with ceramic insert, the seamless wedge
wire water fi lter made of nickel chromium steel and the menu-driv-
en color display, ensuring operational reliability and TechnoAlpin
user-friendliness. The integrated rotating mechanism has an au-
tomatic pivoting angle of 180° degrees, allowing the snow to be
distributed over a wide area and thereby signifi cantly reducing the
amount of slope preparation and snow grooming work. This also
reduces the noise nuisance from vehicles during slope preparation.
This winter, some resorts were able to test a prototype of the TF10
Piano. The comments and feedback have been quite encouraging.

valdelinares6The ARAMON group, operator of the Valdelinares resort,
launched an ambitious works project for the 2014 sum-
mer season. The goal was to reinforce its ski areas and
expand its offering. In fact, the works performed during
the ski season do not involve only the snow-making sys-
tem, but the ski lifts as well. During the summer, a new
four-seater chairlift was installed along a brand new
track. With installation of this new ski lift, the resort now
has 5 new slopes.
TechnoAlpin has been charged with supplying this new
5-slope section with a brand new snow-making system. Like-
wise, although the resort already had an existing snow-mak-
ing system, a new machine room and reservoir were required
to ensure optimal supply of the 52 new pits installed during
the works. While the initial machine rooms water pumping

capacity was 70 l/s, it is now 280 l/s. All pits installed
are fit with the new TL6 lance which was tested at
the Valdelinares resort during the winter. Customer
feedback was particularly important in developing this
new product.
The resort operators wanted to upgrade the entire ex-
isting installation: therefore, the 36 Borax type lances
were replaced with 36x Rubis Evo lances which are
much more efficient and consume less air. The reduced
air consumption makes operation of the newly installed
snow guns possible without installation of an additional
compressor.
The entire system will be integrated into the Liberty

Along the 4 slopes, a total of 73 pits will be installed.
In terms of snow guns, TMR has chosen high efficiency
Rubis Evolution lances as well as units controlled with
VAR valves and fit with YB regulation valves in the pit.
The new machine room will be fit with 3 variable speed
pumps to better control power consumption. The initial
pumping capacity is 100 l/s. In addition, a compres-

In Canberra, at 1,200 m asl, we find the Corin Forest resort (Australia). After having purchased a
few snow guns from TechnoAlpin the previous year, this
small resort has decided to reaffirm its trust in the com-

As well, at Mount Hotham (Australia), Techno-
Alpin is reinstalling the cast iron piping along the Sla-

ing plant was installed to supply the snow guns with the
water they need.
TechnoAlpin exports its products to 48 countries world-
wide, including New Zealand and Australia, which are
now approaching the 2015 winter season. During the
summer in the southern hemisphere, TechnoAlpin
worked on the expansion of several resorts.
One of these was The Remarkables (New Zealand),
owned by NzSki, where the snow experts from Bolzano handled
the installation of a new pumping plant, with high pressure
pumps and compressors. Moreover, the operators decided to
install the ATASSplus Maintenance Manager software, which
can increase energy and overall plant efficiency.

There is a lot that’s new in Val di Fassa this winter. In fact, during the summer months, a series of works were
performed to modify and add new slopes throughout the valley. These included major works in the Ciampac

installation of a pump station downstream of the cable-
way and renovations to the upstream pump station. The
two rooms are now connected by 2,900 m of fiber-optic

Liberty control software.
Ciampac too, undertook rather ambitious works on their
snow-making system. The small “gem” of the Dolomites in Val
di Fassa upgraded, enhanced and perfected its slopes, widen-
ing the “Ciampac-Alba” forest piste. The company’s aim was to
improve the current piste by increasing its average width and
intervening at two points where the current features penalized
optimal use of the slope. By widening the piste, it now meets
the FIS requirements and is thus suitable for both training and
top notch competition. The piste is currently classified as “dif-
ficult” (black), the only such slope in Val di Fassa.

The lance department has optimised the TL6 model,
which is now ready for standardized production. The
TL6 lance has totally new technology that takes advan-
tage of its strengths at both marginal and optimal tem-
peratures. This is possible through the use of 4 nozzle
rings that offer up to 6 adjustable stages. The nozzles
are opened and closed, and the various combinations
controlled by a motor housed in the lance head. With
this motorized head, the TL6 can forego complex lance

Initial feedback from Valdelinares (ESP)During this winter, Valdelinares tested a pre-production
series of the TL6 lance. Francisco Monforte Gargallo,
snow-making manager for the Spanish resort, was ex-
tremely satisfied with the new TechnoAlpin lance: “One
of the strong points of this snow gun is its production
curve. But not just that: ice does not form on the lance
and, since the nozzle ring is automatically emptied, wa-
ter is not wasted uselessly. Even though we purchased
several TechnoAlpin snow guns this year, there was no
increase in the power needed to run.”
Thanks to the 6 possible combinations, the TL6 covers a much
wider range of production than conventional lances and stands
out for the quality of the snow produced. Optimal performance
is achieved by cutting edge nucleators and by the shape of the
certified Rubis Evolution heads.
Efficient and reliableThe nucleators stand out above all for their low air consump-
tion which makes this one of the most efficient lances on the
market. In addition, in the absence of nucleation air, their de-
sign prevents any water backflow into the air circuit. A spe-
cial heating system prevents ice formation on the head, even
in extremely cold weather. Closing the nozzles automatically
empties all water out of the nozzle ring. This ensures that the
snow produced is always of high quality and, at the same time,
prevents ice from forming on the lance.
The TL6 lance also sets new standards for easy use. The new
structure is composed of a fixed base, a rotating column and
an optional hydraulic cylinder to regulate height. Thus the lance
can be lowered all the way without removing the air and water
hoses. Maintenance is so much simpler. The structure can also
accommodate an optional filter.

sically, this means increasing the level of guarantee that
a given piste and ski area will have snow, and offers the
potential to popularize winter sports in urban centers.

quite simple. Thanks to a tested, cutting edge cooling
technique, the water is cooled to the freezing point us-
ing a high efficiency heat exchanger. Thanks to this
procedure, the water freezes without the use of any
chemical additives. Indeed, the production of snow,
free of any chemical additives, is absolutely essential
in the Winterberg resort area.
This new product does not produce snow in the strict-
est sense of the word, but rather tiny dry ice crystals.
The Snowfactory differs from other products currently
on the market because it does not contain any residual
humidity – the snow is 100% frozen. On the one hand,
this ensures extremely high efficiency and, on the oth-
er, improves final product quality. Thanks to preparation
with PistenBully, it is possible to achieve firn quality.
Since 1990, TechnoAlpin has been designing and producing
turnkey snow-making systems for ski resorts around the world.
Over 1,800 customers in 48 countries worldwide trust the
quality of the TechnoAlpin fan guns and lances used to cov-
er their slopes. Now TechnoAlpin is unveiling the new Snow-
factory, the snow gun for above-zero temperatures.
The first Snowfactory was delivered to the Ferienwelt Winter-
berg (Germany) ski resort in mid October. The system was de-
livered to Winterberg in a container, which meant it was ready
for use and thus did not require any further installation. Thanks
to the plug-and-play system, snow-making was begun immedi-
ately. Daily snow production was 230 m³, which was transport-
ed to the piste via conveyor belt. Thanks to the Snowfactory,
the resort was able to open the season earlier than usual: the
first piste being opened on the 15th of November.
Precise snow-makingThe fields of application are clearly defined. This is not a re-
placement for classic snow making, but a way to supplement it.
In fact, the Snowfactory is perfect for snow-making along short
lengths of slope in ski resorts, or for events of various types. Ba-

or Biathlon World Ski Championships. In the past, the
snow experts have guaranteed snow during the Olym-
pics, including in Sochi (Russia) last year. TechnoAlpin
is therefore proud to have once again been an official
partner in a global competition such as the Kontiolahti
2015 Biathlon World Championships.
From the 5th to 15th of March, the 2015 Biathlon World Champi-
onships took place in Kontiolahti, Finland. This is the highlight
of the winter season, as the event coincides with the penulti-
mate stage of the World Cup. Unlike what generally happens
in the FIS disciplines, the races in the Biathlon World Champi-
onships are also valid for the Biathlon World Cup. As a result,
in addition to the medals, points were also awarded for the
race for the Crystal Ball, making the competitors’ final position,
aside from the podium, extremely important. All of this made
these World Championships even more competitive and grip-
ping. And it wasn’t just the races, the general organization and
the other events held were also a great success.
For many years now, TechnoAlpin has supported the organizers
of major events such as the Winter Olympics or Alpine, Nordic

…that for several years now, TechnoAlpin has taken its
budget for customer Christmas presents and donated it to win-
ter sports related charities? This year no monetary donations were
made; rather the decision was to ensure the joy of the many young
guests of the SOS Villaggi dei Bambini children’s village. Upon invi-
tation from TechnoAlpin, nearly 300 children were able to spend a
day in the snow at Austrian resorts.
With this campaign, TechnoAlpin wishes to offer its customers a
special gift. What could be better than the beaming smile of a
happy child. To enable all TechnoAlpin customers to share the joy
of these days in the snow, we have shot this film that really depicts
the delight of these children:
…that of 29 Alpine Skiing World Cup races,
19 were run on TechnoAlpin snow? This holds true
for Sölden (AUT), Levi (FIN), Aspen (USA), Courchevel
(FRA), Val d’Isère (FRA), Zagreb (CRO), Cortina d’Am-
pezzo (ITA), Bansko (BUL), Åre (SWE), Alta Badia (ITA),
Kühtai (AUT), Madonna di Campiglio (ITA), Wengen
(SUI), Kitzbühel (AUT), Schladming (AUT), Saalbach
Hinterglemm (AUT), Kranjska Gora (SLO) and the grand
finale in Meribel (FRA). …that on January 14 - 15, more than 80
operators and managers of Italian resorts met in Ma-
donna di Campiglio, in Trentino? Here, in a laid back,
very informal setting, the operators, along with Funi-
vie Campiglio, PistenBully and TechnoAlpin, shared
information, ideas and opinions. For TechnoAlpin this
meeting was very important and truly unique: it is, in
fact, the first time so many managers and operators
came together at a resort. Nowadays, operators play
an increasingly important role in snow-making: in fact,
thanks to the new systems it is possible to manage the
primary resources very simply, increasing the efficien-
cy of the system and consequently lowering production
and management costs. We have entered a new era of
snow-making, where efficiency and optimal production
are key.
