Turning points LAWRENCE, Kan. — Maximize the few playmakers you do have: Roy Helu and Niles Paul. Scrap that shotgun spread and commit to the power formation: I-back. Fullback. Wide receiver. Two tight ends. This was the strategy Shawn Watson should’ve employed as soon as his offense collapsed in October. This was the ticket to a Big 12 North title. This was beautiful. And then, on first-and-10 from the Kansas 46 early in the second quarter, something very fishy happened. Zac Lee took the snap and dashed left behind the line of scrimmage. Another option? No. Lee pulled up, pivoted, set his feet and found Paul wiiiiide open behind the Watson adjusts, the offense returns to form and a white-haired wizard waves his wand LAWRENCE, Kan. — First, the first good news. We won’t be needing a Ouija board, or the bottom of the BCS rankings, to figure out the Big 12 North. It’s Nebraska vs. Kansas State, Saturday night at the friendly confines of Memo- rial Stadium, with the winner getting the Big 12 North championship and a special invite to be Texas’ guest at the Big 12 championship game. For a while on Saturday, it didn’t look like the North would be crowning a champion this year. With Kansas State falling hard to Missouri and Nebraska doing a 10-10 waltz with Kansas, it looked more like Texas would just throw a party on Dec. 5 and have a touch football game afterwards. But we’re going to have a North title game, though there won’t be so much a winner as there will be a survivor. That’s the other good news for the Huskers, 31-17 winners over Kansas.
