WP2 - Objectives

• WP Responsible: ATB• Partners involved: All • Objectives:

– to identify the potential demand of additional Research and development activities on ICT technologies and collaborative tools that will lead to the incorporation of AMI technologies into industries and organisations belonging to the extended Agri-food / Rural sector.

– collecting data, information and knowledge, related to agri-food sector, from previous RTD activities and programmes and collecting the needs according to different agri-food / Rural sectors.

Page 20: Slide 2 Project Acronym: AMI@NETFOOD Project full title: Development of Long-term shared vision on AMI Technologies for a Networked Agri- food sector

Slide 20

Objectives and overall approach

• Objectives:– structuring the data within the repository which enables

multiple layers of analysis, allowing for the development of multiple versions of current states and multiple future visions.

– analysing and synthesising the collected data from actual regional or national RTD strategies with the first hand experiences of the policy makers as identified in WP1 to give a clear expression of the AS-IS and TO-BE states.

– identifying current and future legal constraints.

RTD Strategies andData Validation

• Data Collection: running & recently completed projects:– A standardised set of project information was defined, to be collected

by AmI@Netfood Partners in their regions, also searching for interregional activities (e.g. EU-funded projects).

– All identified projects are assigned to the defined AmI@Netfood sectors – presenting which organisations may benefit from the project results (single as well as multiple mappings).

– Mapping AmI technology categories addressed by the projects.

– Elaboration and mapping of a harmonised set of addressed business needs/ requirements respectively addressed problems w.r.t. new methods of work and AmI supported collaboration in the Agri-food/ rural sector (i.e. based on the data collection methodology – business practices, technology, standards).

Page 23: Slide 2 Project Acronym: AMI@NETFOOD Project full title: Development of Long-term shared vision on AMI Technologies for a Networked Agri- food sector

Slide 23

RTD Strategies andData Validation

• Input on relevant projects collected by the AmI@Netfood partners:– Diverse projects were identified in the regions (about 50 to date).

– The dimension of the projects covers both, European dimension as well as Regional Activities.

– AmI@Netfood is targeting to collect the partner information of the diverse projects, enabling collaboration and match-making on the long-term.

– All AmI@Netfood sectors are covered by the identified projects.

– Collaboration w.r.t. health, security, seamless identification & traceability of food products are key aspects of current projects.

– AmI is still rarely addressed in Agri-food/rural sector, but available project results are offering diverse potentials for reuse.

• Identification of most relevant aspects for the companies.• Presentation of the degree of realisation/ implementation in the companies.• Structured in accordance to the AmI@Netfood sectors.• Identification of the European RTD strategies currently applied in the

different regions.

– To-Be Situation:• Identification of most relevant technology scenarios, RTD strategies and

priorities; taking into account potential needs created by new technology.• Assessment of current RTD strategies w.r.t. their suitability to cope with

requirements of the organisations.

Page 28: Slide 2 Project Acronym: AMI@NETFOOD Project full title: Development of Long-term shared vision on AMI Technologies for a Networked Agri- food sector

Slide 28

RTD Strategies andData Validation

• Refinement and harmonisation of the key characteristics of the identified projects – especially sectors, RTD challenges and AmI technologies addressed.

• Reformulation and deletion of double RTD strategies identified for the different regions.

• Mapping of policy requirements (i.e. from industry) to the other characteristics as applied for the projects and RTD strategies.

• Final harmonisation of characteristics to reduce the amount of different data.

WP3 Consensus on Regional Strategies

• Sample - GPS– Overview

• The GPS (Global Positioning System) is a "constellation" of 24 well-spaced satellites that orbit the Earth and make it possible for people with ground receivers to pinpoint their geographic location. The location accuracy is anywhere from 100 to 10 meters for most equipment.

– Current state • GPS is in widespread use, its has mainly been felt through more accurate land measurements,

construction and more recently in tracking technology and onboard navigation

– Trends • GPS is getting to be cheaper, with emerging technologies suchas navigational equipment and real time tracking GPS could add a new level to tracking and tracing.

– Impact on Agri-food• GPS could be combined into new intelligent systems, be used to track vehicles and

procurements. And combined with existing systems

OUR Objectives are strongly related to

@rural aims • To define & reach consensus on a strategy to develop a sectoral approach for future EU/Regional/National RTD Policy in the area of ICTs applicable to Agrifood and Rural development

• To implement it in a form of a more ambitious project as IP or ETP within FP7.

• HOW ? 1. Produce EXCELLENT project results (SRA, Era PILOT).2. Make EU commission and EU constituency aware of such results (actively

disseminate).3. Demonstrate EC that we have the potential and capacity to lead the task.

Thus Create a strong public-private constituency supporting the results.1. Extend the consortium with all necessary actors that will add value to the IP.2. Prepare a sound proposal for an IP (ETP).
