Siegel's Workout Analysis Santa Anita Friday, June 19th Race #1 Maiden Special Weight - 1M T FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. Three Year Olds, 120 lbs.; Older, 126 lbs. [Rail at 20 feet].. PGM PP RUNNER JOCKEY TRAINER M/L 1 1 Exhort Evin Roman Doug O'Neill 15/1 6/13 SA 4f :48.1h B- In company outside Paige Runner (5f, 1:01h, out an extra furlong), breaking off a length behind and then finishing about a half-length back at the wire, light coaxing (workmate breezing and slightly best), splits of :23.3 and :48.1 for D. O'Neill. Seems okay, about the same, probably fits best in a high priced maiden claimer. 2 2 Tallien [IRE] Mario Gutierrez Matthew Chew 12/1 3 3 Eastern Ocean Abel Cedillo Mark Glatt 7/2 4 4 Frasard [GB] Drayden Van Dyke Leonard Powell 7/2 5 5 Tapitution Mike Smith Bob Baffert 5/1 6/12 SA 5f 1:00.1hg B In company inside Winning Moment (same time) in another five furlong gate drill, splits of :24.1, :35.4, :47.1 and 1:00.1 before galloping to the wire in 1:14.2, probably his best work to date while appearing best throughout. Bred to run long and acts like he'll be most effective if not pushed and shoved early. Should make the entries soon. 6/5 SA 5f 1:00.2hg B- In company inside Winning Moment (same time) in gate drill for Baffert, splits of :24 flat, :35.4, :47.4 and 1:00.2 before coasting to the wire in 1:15.1 while getting fit. Seemed better here than the last time we saw him, although that could have been because he wasn't working with Cezanne. Has some run, worth another look. 5/14 SA 5f 1:00.1hg B- Team gate drill inside Cezanne (5f, :59hg) for Baffert, staying with that one under some coaxing to the top of the stretch and then folding his tent while unable to stay with high-quality stablemate, splits of :23.2, :34.4, :46.4 and 1:00.1, about six lengths behind when eased up and much farther back than that on the gallop out to the wire. Time was good, but this colt was clearly overmatched. Hard to classify right now. 6 6 Lane Way Flavien Prat Richard Mandella 3/1 6/11 SA 5f 1:01.2h B No blinkers, worked with Leprino (5f, 1:01.3h) for Mandella and stalked that one early while falling back a bit on the turn, then re-rallied along the rail and gained command inside the furlong pole to draw clear late while under wraps (workmate asked), splits of :24 flat, :36 flat and 1:01.2, smooth drill while holding his form. Like to see him tried on turf, style might suit better when dealing with a softer race flow. 6/4 SA 5f 1:00.4h B- No blinkers, in company outside Goliad (same time) for Mandella and was best, breaking off a length back and finishing about a half length in front at the wire, very light coaxing only, slow early and okay late, splits of :12.4, :24.4, :36.2 and 1:01 flat on our watches. Has finished third in each of his four career starts to date, looked about the same here. 7 7 Exeter Geovanni Franco Quinn Howey 30/1 8 8 Munnings' Pilot Umberto Rispoli Richard Baltas 8/1 9 9 Macedonian Ruler [AUS] Victor Espinoza Neil Drysdale 5/1 6/10 SA 6f 1:17.1h TT C+ Caught this pair from the 5/8ths to the wire, was used as a prompter for the much classier Toinette (6f, 1:16.4h TT) for Drysdale, breaking off a couple of lengths in front but then proving no match in the final furlong, not really asked much (neither was workmate), splits of :25 flat, :37.2 and 1:03.4, hardly inspiring. Had a couple of runs overseas (third in both starts), probably maiden claiming material on this circuit. 5/27 SA 5f 1:02.3h TT C+ Worked with Prance (5f, 1:02.1h TT) for Drysdale, breaking off a couple of lengths in front and then finishing about a head in front at the wire, left handed urging into the lane (leaning in?) while earning splits of :24.1, :36.3 and 1:02.4. Not very inspiring, probably maiden claiming material at this stage. Race #2 Claiming - 7F D FOR FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. Hard to endorse based on this drill, needs a drop to the bottom rung. 5 5 Pasito Victor Flores J. Kruljac 3/1 6/12 SA 4f :50.1h TT C Solo half mile drill on training track for Kruljac, splits of :12.1 and :37.2 for the final three furlongs, niggled at through the lane, just a fair pick-up. Short strider needs a class drop. 6/5 SA 5f 1:02.3 TT C+ Solo five furlong training track drill for Kruljac, very slow early but then picking it up through the lane when ridden out, splits of :25.4, :38,1 and 1:02.4 on our watches, not great but not too bad for a cheap type. May improve but needs a drop to the bottom. 6 6 Sindy's Revenge Aaron Gryder Blake Heap 4/1

9 9 Macedonian Ruler [AUS] Victor Espinoza Neil Drysdale 5/16/10 SA 6f 1:17.1h TT C+ Caught this pair from the 5/8ths to the wire, was used as a prompter for the much classier Toinette (6f, 1:16.4h TT)

for Drysdale, breaking off a couple of lengths in front but then proving no match in the final furlong, not really asked much (neither was workmate), splits of :25 flat, :37.2 and 1:03.4, hardly inspiring. and tiring in the final stages, splits of :23.4, :36 flat and 1:02.2 on our watches. Hard to endorse based on this drill, needs a drop to the bottom rung.

5 5 Pasito Victor Flores J. Kruljac 3/16/12 SA 4f :50.1h TT C Solo half mile drill on training track for Kruljac, splits of :12.1 and :37.2 for the final three furlongs, niggled at through

FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. Three Year Olds, 120 lbs.; Older, 126 lbs. [Rail at 20 feet]..

1 1 Cosmo Geovanni Franco Neil Drysdale 10/1 6/12 SA 5f 1:03.3h TT C+ Solo five furlong training track drill for Drysdale, ridden some from the top of the lane to the wire, :25 flat for the final

quarter mile. Seems about the same.

2 2 Still in the Game Mario Gutierrez Ben Cecil 4/16/10 SA 5f :59.4h B- In company inside Listing (5f, :59.1h) for Cecil, breaking off about three lengths in front and then finishing slightly behind

at the wire, mild coaxing in the final stages while second best, final half mile on our watches in :23.1 and :47.3. Not really too bad under the circumstances, holds his form, a need-the-lead maiden at this stage of his career.

3 3 Fravel Abel Cedillo Richard Mandella 12/1 6/4 SA 5f 1:01.2h C+ Broke off several lengths in front of Dogtag (5f, 1:00.4h) and finished about a half length back at the wire under mild

urging (workmate breezing, was much best), final half mile in :24 flat and :49.1 for R. Mandella. Now a gelding, might help, couldn't hurt. Certainly would benefit from a drop into a maiden claimer.

4 4 Tiz Vicious Tiago Pereira Leonard Powell 12/1

5 5 Much More Halo Mike Smith Bob Baffert 7/2

6 6 War Path Flavien Prat Bob Baffert 4/16/6 SA 5f 1:01hg B- Again worked inside Provocation (same time), this time from gate, and was second best again, not really asked all that

much while about a half length back when pulled up at the furlong pole (workmate breezing throughout), splits of :24.2, :36.1, :48 flat and 1:01 flat before coasting to the wire in 1:14.3. War Front colt looks about the same, may need high priced maiden claimers to graduate on this circuit.

5/29 SA 5f 1:00.3h C+ In company inside Provocation (6f, 1:12.3h, out to 7/8 pole) for Baffert, breaking off a bit in front but then proving no match in the final furlong, :23.1 and :48.1 from the half mile pole to the wire, mild urging while losing his steam late. Was hoping for better, that's for sure.

7 7 Fire Polish Ruben Fuentes Neil Drysdale 20/1 6/12 SA 6f 1:17.3h TT D+ Worked outside Winners Club (6f, 1:17.2h TT) in training track drill for Drysdale and was under urging most of the

way while falling back to be well-beaten in the final stages, final 5/8ths in :24.3, :37.1 and 1:04.3. Wore blinkers here, didn't help. Pass.

8 8 No Slo Mo Evin Roman Mark Glatt 8/16/5 SA 5 1:01.4h Solo five furlong drill for Glatt, easy early before being asked in the final stages, splits of :12 flat, :23.4 and :49.2 on our

watches, fair to moderate. Was hoping for a bit more pick-up in his a.m. activity after having a race. Looks about the same.

9 9 Tiberius Mercurius Umberto Rispoli John Sadler 5/26/13 SA 5f 1:00.1h B+ Worked outside St. Joe Bay (same time) for Sadler and was just coasting to the wire while workmate had to be asked,

very nice for New York invader, splits of :11.3, :23 flat and :47.4 for the final half mile on our watches. Hard to be believe he's still a maiden after seven starts. Plenty it and ready.

 Race #4 Maiden Special Weight - 4 1/2F D

FOR CALIFORNIA BRED OR CALIFORNIA SIRED MAIDENS, TWO YEARS OLD. Weight, 122 lbs..

PGM PP RUNNER JOCKEY TRAINER M/L

1 1 Proud Lion Edwin Maldonado Vann Belvoir 20/1

2 2 Broken Finger Victor Flores Rafael DeLeon 30/1

3 3 Poso Creek J.C. Diaz, Jr. Daniel Franko 20/1

4 4 Lemon Zinger Aaron Gryder Luis Mendez 3/15/24 SA 4f :50.1h C Juvenile by Bluegrass Cat worked inside Miss Baylee (4f, :50.1h) and was no match with talented filly, splits of :11.3 and

:38.2 for the final three furlongs while many lengths back at the wire and having little left in the tank. May have bit of speed but needs some serious help in the stamina department.

5 5 Big Fish Umberto Rispoli David Hofmans 4/16/10 SA 5f 1:01.3h B- Broke off several lengths behind Cognac Cat (5f, 1:02.2h) for Hofmans and eventually wore down workmate while under

urging in the final furlong (workmate not asked much), splits of :13.2, :25.3, :37.1 and 1:01.3 on our watches. Juvenile gelding by Mr. Big is bred to be a distance type and is being trained that way. Can't be expected to be at his best in early abbreviated sprint outings.

6 6 What's Up Surfer Flavien Prat Peter Miller 2/1

7 7 Touchdown Brown Evin Roman Rafael Becerra 9/55/23 SA 4f :49.2hg B Outside Investment Account (same time) in easy gate drill while appearing best, splits of :24.4, :37 flat and :49.1 on our

watches, just cruising while able to go faster if asked. Nice moving juvenile won't take much more to be fit and ready. Will be live at first asking, for sure.

5/6 SA 4f :49.3h B Athletic juvenile colt by Cairo Prince worked inside Investment Account (4f, :50h) and was much best while finishing two lengths clear in a breeze while able to go considerably faster if turned loose. Like this colt very much, getting fit for Becerra, must follow.

8 8 Rantanen Ruben Fuentes Andrew Lerner 20/1 6/11 SA 5f 1:01.3hg C+ No blinkers, gate drill with Claw (5f, 1:01.2hg), Weapon (5f, 1:01.4hg) and Tiger's Song (5f, 1:01.4hg) and was second

best for Lerner while inside on the front end to the head of the lane before weakening a bit, splits of :24.2, :36 flat, :48.2 and 1:01 flat, fair move at best. Didn't show a whole lot in his debut, may improve a bit but still has aways to go.

 Race #5 Maiden Claiming - 1M T

FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. Three Year Olds, 120 lbs.; Older, 126 lbs. Claiming Price $40,000.

1 1 Negotiator Heriberto Figueroa Gary Mandella 20/1

2 2 Fengari Ruben Fuentes John Sadler 5/26/12 SA 5f 1:01.2h TT B Solo training track drill for Sadler, mild coaxing through the lane, final three furlongs in :12.2 and :36.2, solid from the

top of the stretch to the wire. Holds his form, seeking another maiden claiming turf router.

3 3 Sly Mike Smith Richard Mandella 3/16/12 SA 5f 1:02.3h B Worked inside Caisson (same time, pulled up at the wire,) for Mandella and looked pretty good, under a stout hold before

continuing out to 7/8 pole under mild pressure for a full six furlongs, :12 flat, :24.3, :50 flat and 1:02.4 from the half mile pole to the 7/8ths pole on our watches. May improve after a recent sprint prep coupled with a stretch out in trip and a realistic drop into a maiden claimer.

4 4 Press Briefing Abel Cedillo Doug O'Neill 20/1 6/13 SA 5f 1:00.3hg C+ In team gate drill for O'Neill with Shark Cat and Notre Dame (both 5f, 1:00.2hg) and was last of the three while

between horses throughout, splits of :24.2, :36.1, :48.1 and 1:00.3 on our watches. not particularly impressive while being ridden along (as were the other two). Previous work warranted a bit of optimism but this was a step back. Needs maiden claimers.

6/5 SA 5f 1:01.3h B- Worked inside Notre Dame (5f, 1:01.2h) for O'Neill, breaking off a length in front and then finishing about a head back at the wire, never really asked much, not a bad move for new connections, splits of :24 flat and :49 flat form the half mile pole to the wire. Was far back in his debut but should improve with experience.

5 5 Most Sandisfactory Flavien Prat Peter Miller 4/1

6 6 Camps Bay Umberto Rispoli John Sadler 10/1

7 7 Leprino Drayden Van Dyke Richard Mandella 6/16/11 SA 5f 1:01.3h C+ In compan with Lane Way (5f, 1:01.2h) for Mandella, opening up a couple of lengths on the turn but then drifting off the

rail to allow workmate to come through and wound up second best by almost a length under some late urging (workmate breezing). Just a moderate move, needs a drop into the maiden claiming ranks.

8 8 Bedrock Aaron Gryder Jeff Bonde 10/1

9 9 Strugar Assael Espinoza Peter Eurton 12/1 6/12 SA 4f :49.3h B- Outside Jetovator (same time) for Eurton and finished head-and-head at the wire while going WAY faster than given,

splits of :22.4 and :47.2 on our watches, ridden a bit through the lane to be slightly second best to breezing workmate, not bad for a maiden claimer. Lightly-raced and probably has some improvement in him but needs soft types.

8 7 Ruby Bradley Evin Roman Doug O'Neill 20/1 6/6 SA 4f :48h B- Worked outside Oiseau de Guerre (4f, :47.4h) for new trainer O'Neill and finished about 3/4 length back at the wire, no

real pressure while workmate was breezing and looked sharp as usual. Not too bad under the circumstances but needs modest claimers, hard to believe she won a stakes worth $188,000 last year vs. state-breds.

9 8 Speedy Gigi Mario Gutierrez Andrew Lerner 12/1 5/27 SA 4f :48.3h B- Solo half mile drill for Lerner and did okay while mostly on her own, splits of :11.2 and :36.2 from the 3/8ths pole to the

wire. Was out of her element vs stakes foes last time out and can improve but needs to be realistically spotted.

10 9 Loud Loud Music Tiago Pereira Steven Miyadi 4/16/8 SA 5f 1:03.1h TT B- Solo five furlong training track drill for Miyadi and was mostly on her own in easy drill, splits of :24.4, :37.2 and 1:03.1.

Seemed okay here, was maiden grass sprint winner up north last month and may be capable of further improvement with experience.

PGM PP RUNNER JOCKEY TRAINER M/L

1 1 Peace Pipe J.C. Diaz, Jr. Richard Baltas 6/16/12 SA 4f :49.4h TT B- Another solo half mile move on training track while continuing to get fit, finishing well within herself, final three

furlongs in :12.1 and :37 flat. May be a bit better type this time around for new connections. Eligible to surface in a soft spot.

6/4 SA 4f :50.1h TT B- Solo half mile training track drill for Baltas and went well enough in easy move, splits of :12.2 and :37.2 for the final three furlongs. Been away for more than a year but seems to be coming back in okay shape. Worth another look.

2 2 Cheerful Charm Umberto Rispoli Dan Blacker 8/16/7 SA 5f 1:02.4h B- Broke off a few lengths behind Seems Logical (5f, 1:02.4h) for Blacker and finished down the lane in decent style while

making up ground to be head-and-head at the wire, then was asked out to 7/8 pole and responded okay, splits of :12.1, :36.4 and :49.2 for the final half mile. Likely to run long on the lawn first time out, seems like a route/stretch-running type.

5/30 SA 6f 1:15.3h B- In company inside Eyes Open (same time) for Blacker and was slightly best to the wire under some urging, slow early but pretty good through the lane, final quarter mile in :24.1. Four year old un-raced maiden by Boisterous may have a tad of ability and is worth another look.

3 3 On Mars Mike Smith Philip D'Amato 9/56/12 SA 5f 1:00.3h TT B- Broke off several lengths behind Too Hot for Curlin (5f, 1:01.1h TT) in training track drill for D'Amato, caught that one

approaching the head of the lane and then was best to the wire under mild coaxing, splits of :24 flat, :35.4 and 1:00.4 on our watches, useful enough, a bit better than last time. Plenty fit, stretch runner should return soon in another turf affair.

6/5 SA 5f 1:01.3h TT C+ Broke off several lengths behind Table for Ten (5f, 1:02.3h TT) in training track drill for D'Amato, closed the gap to the head of the lane but couldn't get by (actually was losing ground in the closing stages), both hard urged, final quarter mile in :25 flat. Expected a bit better, seeking another maiden state-bred filly and mare turf router.

5 5 Too Hot for Curlin Abel Cedillo Philip D'Amato 5/16/12 SA 5f 1:01.1h TT C In blinkers, broke off several lengths in front of Oh Mars (5f, 1:00.3h TT) but couldn't contain that one through the

lane, second best to the wire under some urging, not impressive. Eight-race maiden really isn't getting any better, is what she is.

6 6 Seeking the Throne Tiago Pereira Leonard Powell 20/1 5/24 SA 5f 1:01.4h C+ Worked outside Signofthecross (same time) for Powell and was head-and-head to the wire, splits of :23.4 and :49 flat

from the half mile pole to the wire, mild urging. Not the worst but probably needs maiden claiming state-bred types on this circuit.

10 10 Starship Sky Eswan Flores Howard Zucker 8/15/25 SA 4f :48.4h B- Solo main track half mile drill for Zucker, final three furlongs in :11.4 and :36.4, just coasting through the lane looking fairly

decent. Has improving form and is working better, as well. Worth a bit of a look in the proper spot.
