Вертолет раз- работан на основе модели EC130, при этом модернизации подверглось свыше 70% кон- струкции: поставлен более мощный и современный двига- тель Turbomeca Arriel 2D, разра- ботана уникальная система кон- диционирования, впервые на машине легкого класса установ- лена активная система гашения вибрации, а также новая цифро- вая система контроля состояния двигателя. По словам главы до- черней компании вертолето- строителя — Eurocopter Vostok Лоранс Риголини, в результате эксплуатационные характери- стики и уровень комфорта вер- толета EC130 T2 сейчас наилуч- шие по сравнению со всеми предшественниками семейства легких однодвигательных верто- летов Eurocopter. Кроме того, EC130 T2 считается самой тихой машиной на рынке благодаря своему хвостовому винту систе- мы Fenestron, запатентованной Eurocopter. «Мы думаем, он бу- дет очень популярен в России», отметила г-жа Риголини. Кроме того, Eurocopter обе- щает скоро привезти в Россию вертолет EC145 T2. Это новая модификация двухдвигательно- го вертолета EC145, на которой также установлены более мощ- ные двигатели Turbomeca Arriel 2E и хвостовой винт системы Fenestron, улучшена авионика и система управления полетом. Еще одной новинкой станет EC135 Т3/P3, впервые пред- ставленный в марте этого года на выставке Heli-Expo 2013. Russian Helicopters may unveilthe first Mil Mi-171A2 proto-

type at the MAKS 2013 air showoutside Moscow in August. The airf-rame, referred to as OP-1, is current-ly under construction at the Ulan-Ude aviation factory. The Mi-171A2is the latest iteration of the popularMi-8/17 medium helicopter family.

The new aircraft’s rotor system isbeing tested on a dedicated flyingtestbed. Russian Helicopter reportsgood progress with the tests: vibra-tion has been considerably reducedand the design maximum speed of300 km/h has already been achie-ved. Thanks to the use of advancedcomposite materials in the rotor

system, the trials demonstrated a700-kg increase in the main rotorthrust.

The Russian Helicoptersholding company ended

2012 solidly in the black with9.4 bln rubles (about $300mln) in profit, or 35.2% up onthe previous year. Its revenuestood at 125.7 bln rubles(+21% year-on-year).

The company explains its fi-nancial growth by the 10.7% in-crease in deliveries: 290 airfra-mes of nine different types weredelivered last year to customersin 19 countries. The firm bac-klog reached 817 helicopters bythe end of 2012, worth a total of359.9 bln rubles.

Russian Helicopters repor-ted several major orders lastyear from India, China andBrazil. The company says its2013 plan for deliveries iscompletely secured by firm or-ders. Revenues from helico-pter sales amounted to 99 bln

rubles, and revenues from ser-vices and support stood at 18.4bln rubles.

The solid financial indica-tors are also attributable to thefact that the company’s cash

CAPEX decreased to 13 blnrubles (–5.5%). In particular,investment in production faci-lities dropped by 16.4% to 7.6bln rubles.

R ussia’s largest helicopter ope-rator UTair Aviation in April

began operating its first two VIP-configured AgustaWestland AW139twin-engine helicopters of the 10on order. The remaining eight airf-rames should be delivered later in2013.

UTair became the first Russiancommercial operator of the type.Several examples had been delive-red to the Rossiya presidential airservice in 2011 to be used as go-vernment transports.

Meanwhile, AW139 productionis launching in the settlement ofTomilino outside Moscow, at the

HeliVert joint enterprise set up byAgustaWestland and Russia’s Obo-ronprom holding company in No-vember 2008. The first Russian-as-sembled AW139 flew on 19 De-cember 2012. HeliVert expects toreach its intended annual produc-tion rate of 15 to 20 airframes in thefirst five years of operation. TheRussian-built helicopters will bemarketed in Russia and the CIS.

At 6,400 kg MTOW, the AW139seats up to 15 passengers. It cruisesat 306 km/h and has a range of over927 km with an endurance of 5 ho-urs.

U krainian engine maker Mo-tor Sich is premiering a full-

size mock-up of the MSB-2 lightutility twin helicopter here at He-liRussia 2013. The MSB-2 is a newderivative of the Mil Mi-2 design;Motor Sich in 2011 received a for-mal approval as the developer ofthe new type.

In lieu of the Mi-2’s originalGTD-350 powerplants, the MSB-2will have more powerful Motor SichAI-450M turboshaft engines for im-proved performance. It will also fea-ture new external fuel tanks, allo-

wing for greater internal payloads, amore ergonomic passenger cabin,and a longer range of 750 km. Therewill also be an advanced avionicssuite. At 4-ton MTOW, the helico-pter will seat eight people. It will ha-ve a maximum speed of 210 km/hand a cruise speed of 200 km/h.

Interfax-Ukraine news agencyreported in April that the MSB-2was undergoing tests in the run-upto production entry. Certificationis expected to be completed byyear-end.

T o what extent is the Russianmarket important to Turbo-

meca?— Turbomeca’s presence at He-

liRussia is a strong sign of our in-vestment in the Russian helicopteractivity. We consider this to be ofkey importance to Turbomeca andSafran, and this is why we want tobe party to this major event.

Considering the number ofRussian helicopters operatedworldwide, it is a considerablemarket. Looking at the backlog oforders the Russian Helicopterscompany has today, and the num-ber of aircraft it delivered lastyear, which is growing significant-ly from the previous years, we cansee very strong signals that the he-licopter market is going to grow inthis country. We would like to beparty to this.

The second reason the Russianmarket is of considerable impor-tance to Safran and its companiesis that Safran Group has heavilyinvested in the Russian businessover many years through variousactivities, especially through itsSnecma and Turbomeca propul-sion businesses, and we intend tocontinue this activity. The bestevidence of our involvement in theRussian business is the contractsthat we have been awarded to de-velop, supply and support enginesfor the Kamov 226T and Kamov62 helicopters.

— How is Turbomeca progres-sing on both Kamov programs?

— The two aircraft programsare at different stages of develop-ment. With the Kamov 226T, weexpect to see the aircraft’s certifi-cation later this year. The enginefor the aircraft was certified in

2011 and we have already provi-ded a number of production engi-nes covering the first batch ofpurchase orders. We expect to re-ceive follow-on orders to conti-nue delivering engines for produc-tion needs of the aircraft.

The Kamov 62 is still under de-velopment, its certification isplanned at the end of 2014 butthis will be up to Kamov and Rus-sian Helicopters to confirm. Wehave already completed the deve-lopment of the Ardiden 3G engi-ne and delivered the first prototy-pes earlier this year. We are aboutto deliver the next batch of proto-type engines to allow for the nextphases of the aircraft develop-ment, especially its first flight, tohappen.

— Is Turbomeca prepared to of-fer its engines for other Russianhelicopter programs?

— If we have engines compatib-le with the specifications of Russi-an aircraft, the answer is yes. The-re are a number of projects we areconsidering with great attention,one of which is the RACHELnext-generation high-speed me-dium helicopter program recentlyannounced by Russian Helico-pters. Another example is the pro-ject Russian Helicopters is consi-dering in partnership with Agusta-Westland, the Light Single Heli-copter. We are currently in preli-minary talks on both projects butthe definitions of the two aircraftare not frozen yet.

— The current number of Tur-bomeca engines in Russia flying

on non-Russian helicopters is sig-nificantly above 100 units. This isalready a significant volume whichrequires maintenance. With thestart of Kamov-226T and Kamov-62 production, there will be Tur-bomeca engines on Russian heli-copters as well.

Turbomeca’s support and main-tenance strategy is based on proxi-mity with the customers. This iswhy we have created networks of

subsidiaries everywhere in theworld as close as possible to theoperating companies. As far asRussian customers are concerned,today the core Turbomeca teamhandling the support and mainte-nance of their engines is at ourTurbomeca Germany site inHamburg. One team there is enti-rely dedicated to addressing theRussian fleets. These people actu-ally speak Russian, some of themare Russian natives.

In addition, we have recentlysigned a preliminary agreementwith UTair Engineering to createa service center for our Arrius andArriel engines operated in Russiaon Eurocopter platforms.

We are also already consideringthe appropriate support and MROscheme for the engines that will beinstalled on the Kamov 226T andKamov 62. We have signed a preli-minary agreement with RussianHelicopters to use Helicopter Ser-vice Company as a support centerfor the Arrius 2G1 and Ardiden3G engines. In accordance withthis agreement we will licenceYekaterinburg-based Ural Worksof Civil Aviation as a RussianMRO center for Arrius 2G1 andArdiden 3G engines that will beoperated by the Russian militaryand governmental operators.

T he Mil Mi-8MSB helico-pter has entered the next

phase of certification trials at theCrimea-based test center of theUkrainian Armed Forces. Thecurrent set of flight tests at Ki-rovskoe air base near Feodosia isaimed at expanding the aircraft’soperating envelope, including innatural icing conditions.

Test center director YuriTishkov says aircraft icing is ty-pically observed at about +5°C,depending on air humidity.“Our aim is to conduct struc-tural tests of the helicopter inicing conditions,” he says.

Based on the results of the2012 series of tests, the Mi-8MSB was cleared to operatein the temperature range bet-ween –30 and +50°C, and toclimb to 8,200 m. The aircraft’scurrent MTOW stands at 12

tons. Its operating envelope isexpected to be further expan-ded following the 2013 trials.

The Mi-8MSB is an upgra-ded version of the Mi-8T heli-copter, modernized by Ukraini-an engine house Motor Sich.The aircraft is powered by Mo-tor Sich TV3-117VMA-SBM1V

4E series engines, which aremore powerful and efficientthan the Mi-8T’s standard TV2-117 powerplant. Tishkov saysthe new engine maintains con-stant rotor RPM irrespective ofthe atmpspheric pressure, altitu-de, and temperature.

Helipad for Sheremetyevo

W ork is underway to build a he-lipad outside Terminal A at

Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Interna-tional Airport. The 9,500-square-meter site got cleared and fenced,and workers’ portacabins installed,earlier this spring. The certificationpaperwork will be dealt with as theconstruction works progress. Thenew helipad should be commissio-ned in June. It will handle all me-dium-class helicopter types, inclu-ding the medium Mil Mi-8MTV.

Sheremetyevo’s subsidiary AviaGroup had the helipad design do-cumentation approved in January

2013. Nizhny Novgorod-basedcompany Skif-NN was selected asthe prime contractor for the projectthrough a tender.

In a separate development, ahangar facility for fixed- and rota-ry-wing business aircraft will bebuilt to an Atlas Group design on8,400 square meters of land nearTerminal A at Sheremetyevo. Thefacility will house a maintenanceshop, an ATC operation, and offi-ces of the bizav handling servicesprovider Avia Group Handling.

T he Russian Helicopters hol-ding company delivered two

Mil Mi-171 utility helicopters tothe Russian operator SKOL Airli-nes in March this year. The aircraftare fitted with special lifting andtransporting equipment, includingan on-board boom with winch ca-pable of lifting loads of up to 150 kgand an external hoist with up to4-ton lifting capacity.

The new deliveries bring SKOL’sMi-171 fleet up to five airframes.The airline also operates two MilMi-8AMT, one Mi-8MTV1 and12 Mi-8T medium helicopters, se-ven Mil Mi-26T heavy transports,and three Eurocopter AS350 B3light single-engine rotorcraft.

The two new Mi-171s will helpSKOL expand its presence on the

international air freight market.The company holds an official UNcarrier status since 2009; UN sup-port missions currently account fornearly 50% of its entire helicopteroperations. Throughout 2012,

SKOL’s Mi-171 fleet was involvedin UN missions to airlift humani-tarian freights and passengers inAfghanistan, Sudan, Lebanon, andthe Democratic Republic of Con-go. The Mi-8/17 helicopters avera-

ged 60 flight hours a month acrossthe fleet in 2012, or 800 hours perairframe for the entire year. Theoperator’s Mi-8Ts are mostly usedin the northern parts of Russia.

R ussia’s Ulan-Ude AviationPlant (UUAZ) put a Mil Mi-

171 full-flight simulator into ope-ration early this year. The manu-facturer says it bought the equip-ment because of the booming Mi-171 sales and the resultant require-ment for additional flight and gro-und crew training capabilities. Thesimulator will help the Mi-171operators based in Russia’s Siberiaand the Far East cut their crew re-current training costs. The firstgroup of students, from China, ha-ve already been through it and hig-hly praised the realistic feel of the

simulation and the competence ofthe instructors.

The simulator is based on an ac-tual Mi-171 cockpit. It offers reali-stic operation of all on-board sy-stems throughout the operationalenvelope, in good and bad weather,and can generate malfunctions, er-roneous crew inputs and otheremergency situations. The pro-grammable scenarios are based onthe Mi-171 behaviour data obtai-ned in the course of the flight testprogram.

The Mi-171 simulator was deve-loped and built by CSTS Dinami-

ka, which has prior experiencebuilding simulation devices of va-rying complexity for the Mil Mi-8MTV, Mi-8 (MTV-5), Mi-17-1V, Mi-171, Mi-24P, Mi-24PN,Mi-35M and Mi-28N helicoptersoperated by government servicesand commercial companies. In thefall of 2010 Dinamika signed anagreement with UUAZ parentcompany Russian Helicopters tocooperate in the marketing, deve-lopment, and production of tech-nical training aids for operators ofRussian-made rotorcraft.
