    EQUITY DEPUTY INFORMATION FOR

    NYC SHOWCASE PRODUCTIONS

    PLEASE READ ALOUD AT FIRST REHEARSAL PRIOR TO DEPUTY

    ELECTION

    Equity Members are reminded that Equity policy extends to the Off-Off Broadwayarena in the form of the Basic Showcase and Seasonal Showcase TheatreCodes. Those who accept the benefits and conditions made possible by Equitymust expect to contribute to the maintenance of Equity rules.

    Any member who acts contrary to any rule is not only in violation of the Code, butjeopardizes the applicability of that rule for his fellow members.

    ABOUT DEPUTIES

    Each Code production must have an Equity Deputy elected by the AEA membersof the company. Election of the Deputy must take place at the first rehearsal. TheDeputy will note the election on the Signature Page and the Deputy ElectionSheet and forward them to AEA. Prior to the Deputy election the enclosedstatement shall be read aloud to the company. Please DO NOT sign this electionform unless this statement has been read. There shall be no person present atthese proceedings who is not a member of ACTORS' EQUITY ASSOCIATION. ADeputy may be elected by voice vote or, if more than one member is nominated,

    by secret ballot.The Deputy of your company is your liaison voice between the Company and theEquity in relation to all conditions governing your participation in the codeproduction. He/she is elected by you and will work in your best interests.

    REPLACING DEPUTIES

    A Deputy shall be relieved of his appointment by leaving the company, or byresigning as Deputy, or by a majority vote of the Equity members of thecompany, and a new Deputy elected immediately. Any change of Deputies mustbe reported to Equity over the signature of a majority of the cast, and the Deputymaterials passed on to the new Deputy.

    DUTIES AND AUTHORITY OF DEPUTY

    1. ACTING AS LIAISON

    The Council of AEA depends on you to act as liaison between AEA andyour company.

    Should a question arise which you cannot answer, or should there be adifference of opinion on an interpretation of a rule, contact Equity (the

    Showcase Department) to get a correct interpretation and, if necessary,instructions as to procedure.

    Instruct company members to discuss grievances or complaints with youbefore taking them up with Equity.

    Call meetings at any time upon request of three or more AEA Companymembers, or in order to take a vote on any matter before the company.

    Deputies are reminded that no member, or group of members, ormanager, may waive or modify any rule and/or regulation of AEA unlesspermission is granted in advance, in writing, by AEA.

    2. TANGIBLE DUITES

    Post a copy of the applicable Code (Basic or Seasonal) in a conspicuousplace where it shall be displayed from the first rehearsal throughout therun of the production. Advise all AEA members become to familiar with theterms of the Code.

    Ensure that a contact sheet (i.e. list of names, addresses, and telephonenumbers of all AEA company members, together with those of essentialpersonnel) is distributed by the Signatory Producer to each AEA companymember.

    Keep weekly records of rehearsal and performance hours.

    Ensure that the Producer provides a program, including names of allEquity members asterisked with Equity logo and appropriate notice ofpermission, to each member of the audience.

    Ensure that the Producer files a copy of the program with Equity no laterthan immediately following the first performance.

    Post the following in a conspicuous place where they shall be displayedfrom the first rehearsal throughout the run of the production:

    Deputy Election Form

    Complete and sign this form following the deputy election and submit to theappropriate Equity office. Communication with our Deputies is very important.

    All Deputies should maintain current contact information with the MembershipDepartment or online at www.actorsequity.org.

    The Stage Manager will read the letter on the reverse side prior to the Deputy election, and then conduct theelection. Please DO NOT sign this election form unless this letter has been read. No one shall be present atthe election except those employed under the Equity contract for this production. A Deputy may be elected byvoice vote or, if more than one member is nominated, by secret ballot.

    Important Showcase Information

    CHECKS: Do not accept checks for payment unless they can becashed immediately at the theatre or are certified.

    CLAIMS: Claims against the management should be submittedimmediately. Delay could render a claim invalid.

    FILMING/TAPING: No taping, filming or recording may be made, in wholeor in part, of any code production or rehearsal.

    EXPENSEREIMBURSEMENT:

    Expenses are reimbursable weeklyupon submission of avoucher by an Actor to the Producer.

    UNEMPLOYMENTCLAIMS:

    Reimbursement of expenses is not earned income;Showcase participation is not employment and may notbe counted as work weeks toward any unemploymentclaims.

    MEMBERSHIP: An actor may not qualify for AEA membership on the

    basis of Showcase participation. NO EMC POINTS AREGRANTED.

    ACCIDENTINSURANCE:

    As one of the requirements to produce a Showcase, theProducer must have volunteer accident coverage for allrehearsals and performances. Any accident should bereported to the Stage Manager, Deputy or Producerimmediately, and a Deputy accident form filled out.

    HEALTH/PENSION: There are no Health or Pension credits.

    LEAVING ASHOWCASE:

    Members may leave the production at any time duringrehearsal or performance. Immediately upon deciding toleave the production, the member should notify themanagement in writing, forwarding a copy to Equity.

    RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS WITH RESPECT TO FUTURE PRODUCTIONS.

    The Code Producers obligations commence, and the AEA members rights vest, on thefirst day of the members participation in the Code production, regardless of whether themembers role is subsequently written out of the play.

    In the event that a Code Production is immediately converted to a contractproduction containing a provision (Subsidiary Rights clause) requiring the contractProducer to make bona fide offers, or payments in lieu thereof, to AEA memberswho appear in the Code production

    Or

    In the event of a contract production within the time period specified in the applicableSubsidiary Rights clause, of a property which has been performed or rehearsedunder the Code;

    Then

    All original Code participants who performed in the first paid public performanceshall receive a bona fide offer in writing with a copy to AEA to perform their identical

    function, or payments in lieu thereof, as set forth in the applicable Subsidiary Rightsclause prevailing at the time of the contract production.

    NYC Showcase Expense Voucher

    To the Producer and the Deputy:

    Under the terms of the Basic Showcase and Seasonal Showcase Codes, Equitymembers must be reimbursed for their expenses for rehearsals and performances. TheDeputy will submit the vouchers to the producer with the signatures of the AEAmembers and their expenses. Expenses are reimbursable upon receipt of this voucher,without regard to the amount of production costs or recoupment thereof.

    Reimbursement for expenses is not earned income. Showcase participation may not becounted as workweeks toward an unemployment claim.
