Hive is a community arts charity in Shipley, Bradford. We have been active in the Shipley community since 1982. For the last 35 years we have successfully delivered arts & crafts courses, workshops and projects from our centre in Shipley and across the Bradford District.

We believe that creative activity contributes to good health and wellbeing and helps to bring communities together.

We provide a non–traditional learning environment with access to areas of visual arts & crafts that include drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, stained glass and woodwork.

Hive offers the opportunity to enable personal development through a combination of formal and informal supported training within a creative space. In addition we offer a variety of volunteering opportunities to individuals within Hive.

In 2017– 2018, Hive will provide over 40 courses in Art & Design to the adult education sector. These courses are available to everyone over the age of 16 and run from September to July. Whatever your artistic interests, we look forward to welcoming you.

All about Hive

“I think one of the big things that Hive’s

really taught me is to not focus on the

things that I can’t do anymore, but instead

to focus on the things that I can do.”

Visual ArtsThis year we are offering visual art courses in Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking. We have a number of opportunities available for the absolute beginner through to the most experienced student. Our tutors endeavour to create an inspiring environment in which you will be encouraged to explore your skills and your creativity.

Stained GlassOur stained glass courses guide you to design and create traditional and modern stained glass panels, exploring different methods including lead and copper foil work.

CeramicsCeramics is one of Hive’s specialities and this year we are running a varied programme of courses to suit everyone. Our programme is designed to provide plenty of opportunity to try something new or to develop and refine existing skills. Hive creates an environment where experimentation is encouraged and supported and we love to see the work that our students create over the year, often showcasing the work via our social media platforms.

TextilesOur skills–based textile classes at Hive offer you opportunities to learn a range of practical and creative techniques. Our courses have emphasis on decorative techniques and sewing skills. You will be able to explore traditional and contemporary design work in a number of different ways.

WoodworkOur woodwork facility is equipped with specialised woodworking machinery, power tools and hand tools. We offer courses suitable for complete beginners and more experienced woodworkers. These include basic DIY and specialised courses looking at joinery skills and furniture making. All courses are delivered by experienced and knowledgeable tutors.
