Set Up an Email Account for Your HostGator Domain

Parallel Project – Ch 8 The parallel project has
you create functionality for a feedback form you created in an earlier chapter
Part of the functionality you create is having the form email its contents to a business email address for the e-commerce business
You need to set up an email account for your fictional business –the one your parallel project is about
Log In to Your HostGator Account –Open the Email Accounts Tool
You control panel may look different from mine, because there are several skins you can choose from to customize the look of your control panel
Find the section for Mail Open the Email Accounts tool
There is a Default Account
There is a default email account set up for your domain
Your welcome to HostGatoremail included information about it
But, you may want to use a special email that is just for handling user feedback provided by the feedback form
Create an Email Address
An account you might create is something like feedback@yourdomainname
Send an Email to This New Account
Log in to a tool that you use to send emails and send a test email to the account you just created
Use whatever email tool you usually use
You should not get an error message indicating that the account does not exist
WHERE DO YOU CHECK EMAIL FOR THE ACCOUNT YOU SET UP?
Checking the email
Return to HostGatorControl Panel Home
Select WebMail tool and open it
You Are Already Logged In
You are already logged in with the default email account that matches your domain logon
So you have to log out in order to login with the new email address you set up for feedback
Log In with the New Email Address
And password
Select an Email Client to Use
Select one of the three email clients to use to read emails
I chose horde
You Should See an Email in the Inbox
Use Your Domain Email Address
As you create the feedback form functionality in your parallel project – use your own email address The instructor will send some feedback via
your form
Test Your Form
Test your form in your parallel project – once you have updated it to send email to your account
There is a Warning
The warning does not necessarily mean that the emails were not sent
It does mean that the log file, feedback.txt, did not have data added to it
You need to create the data directory on your HostGatorweb space in order for this to work
Success?
No warning once the directory has been created
Check Your Domain Email for the Account You Created
eMails received!
