Once the os is fully installed and relavant drivers installed, Click on 'Add or remove a role' in the Manage your server dialog box.

Note:

• The error you have experienced while using the Active Directory Installation Wizard does not prevent you from successfully promoting this server to a domain controller. You may continue to promote this server and then correct its DNS configuration following promotion.

Page 9: Setting up a RIS (Remote Installation Service) server ...dtang206/setting_up_a_windows... · for the os (windows 2003 server) and one partition to be used purely as the RIS share

Set your permissions as above

Then enter a password for restore mode !

Review the actions performed

Click next and it will configure your server

If you have a network cards installed and setup to receive its IP from another DHCP server (a router for example) then you may get an error like this

I chose Local area connection, then properties, then TCP/IP properties and manually added the following:

Manually configure the network cards tcpip properties for 192.168.3.1

Page 12: Setting up a RIS (Remote Installation Service) server ...dtang206/setting_up_a_windows... · for the os (windows 2003 server) and one partition to be used purely as the RIS share

I then clicked on OK *(three times)

If you get a message about it using the localhost ip for DNS then click OK.At this point the wizard may appear to be hanging, but it isn’t, just be patient and wait  until it completes (can take 15 minutes or so)

When it’s finished you’ll see this

Page 13: Setting up a RIS (Remote Installation Service) server ...dtang206/setting_up_a_windows... · for the os (windows 2003 server) and one partition to be used purely as the RIS share
