A Poem for Parents

Roots and Wings

by Dennis Waitley

If I had two wishes, I know what they would be I'd wish for Roots to cling to, and Wings to set me free;

Roots of inner values, like rings within a tree; and Wings of independence to seek my destiny.

Page 21: Session 2015 Secondary 3 · •Result Expectations vs Realities . 2. Assessment 2015 ... GCE N-Level Exam 4 years N(A) Course Progression Pathways for Normal (Academic) Students GCE

Roots to hold forever to keep me safe and strong, To let me know you love me, when I've done something wrong;

To show me by example, and helps me learn to choose, To take those actions every day to win instead of lose.

A Poem for Parents

Roots and Wings

Page 22: Session 2015 Secondary 3 · •Result Expectations vs Realities . 2. Assessment 2015 ... GCE N-Level Exam 4 years N(A) Course Progression Pathways for Normal (Academic) Students GCE

Just be there when I need you, to tell me it's all right, To face my fear of falling when I test my wings in flight;

Don't make my life too easy, it's better if I try, And fail and get back up myself, so I can learn to fly.

Page 23: Session 2015 Secondary 3 · •Result Expectations vs Realities . 2. Assessment 2015 ... GCE N-Level Exam 4 years N(A) Course Progression Pathways for Normal (Academic) Students GCE

If I had two wishes, and two were all I had, And they could just be granted, by my Mom and Dad; I wouldn't ask for money or any store-bought things.

The greatest gifts I'd ask for are simply Roots and Wings.

• The PFP & DPP programmes are suitable

for the 4NA pupils. The practice-based

curriculum can better prepare them for a

polytechnic education.

• They can focus on the courses that will

give them a head start in their chosen

– ‘I chose the PFP option which allowed me to enter

my dream course, which might have been more

difficult to fulfill through the O-levels route.

The JAE COP was

12 points then.’

Jacyline Ong,

PFP in Business Administration,

Singapore Polytechnic,

N-levels graduand in 2013 (6 points)

What do our former students say…

• On why she pursued the DPP route

– ‘I felt the preparation time of 5 months to

the O-levels was relatively short and I

might not have been able to cope with the

pace. I also thought the hands-on and

project-based approach was more suitable

for me.’

Natasha Leong,

DPP in Chemical Technology,

College East,

N-levels graduand in 2013

What do our former students say…

• On her experiences in the DPP programme

– ‘The programme prepares me for my Diploma

course in Polytechnic at a more manageable

pace. It is a great opportunity as I can be more

focused as the modules are based on the

course I am majoring in.’
