LOCAL NEWS and EVENTS WOOLSHED GREENWORKS PROJECTThis project builds upon previous investigations that identified approaches toreducing the impacts of salinity and improve land management and water qualityoutcomes for the Woolshed Creek catchment.Previous efforts in the southern (upper) catchment of Woolshed Creek wereaimed at reducing erosion and sediment movement to the creek throughrevegetating waterways and fencing stock out of actively eroding areas to allowthem to regenerate.

Current efforts are directed to the northern part of the catchment and includeactivities aimed at keeping the groundwater table at depth. When the water tableis shallow and close to the soil surface it is more likely to evaporate and leave

behind the salts that it naturally contained which then impact on productivity andplant growth.Actions you can take to minimise these impacts including managing your greywater to prevent soakage areas, using less water around the home and growingdeep rooted plants. Fact sheets are availableon our website (http://www.seqcatchments.com.au/programs/land-salinity) Farmers can return marginal croppinglands to permanent perennial pastures andfence waterways to enable grazing pressure inriparian areas to be managed. Some recentactivity in the program includes tree planting, controlling the weed Lippia and establishing

permanent pasture. If you would like to be involved in the programand have land in the northern end of WoolshedCreek or Plain Creek please contact RossBigwood soon.SEQ Catchments would like to thank theGreenWorks Program for making this workpossible.
