    Welcome to 2012. We hope you have enjoyed the summer so far and we againlook forward to working with you this year. We hope you get something out of thisnewsletter and that you take advantage of the opportunity to showcase some of theactivities you have been involved in recently. Please send in any information youthink would be useful to other groups in the Lockyer. Below is an interesting storyabout on ground action at Withcott.

    Lockyer Valley Landcarereceives a lending hand

    In September 2011 a Brisbane-based business group travelledto Withcott to assist the LockyerValley Landcare Group planttrees along a riparian area thatwas left fairly denuded ofvegetation after previous weedtree mechanical removal andthe impacts of the floods earlyin the year. The group spentseveral hours on site andenjoyed a BBQ lunch beforeheading home to Brisbane andthe Gold Coast

    In November, another groupof 60 willing helpers arrived atthe tree planting Projectmanaged by Lockyer ValleyLandcare in Withcott. Thegroup was from a number ofthe Churches from theLockyer Valley andToowoomba. The projectinvolved the restoration of thecreek banks by planting nativevegetation and providing awildlife corridor. The Groupappreciated the assistance of

    the Helping Hands, when theplanting of a large number of native trees and plants was undertaken.

    Expression of Interest for different funding sources has been released all with response dates of late January/February 2012 :Carbon Farming Futures Action on the Ground Grants the release ofguidelines for the Action on the Ground program, which is part of the Govern-ments Carbon Farming Initiative. The program provides funding under a compet-itive grants scheme for on-farm projects that trial or demonstrate practices andtechnologies that reduce on-farm agricultural greenhouse gas emissions and /orincrease soil carbon. The program offers $99m over a 6 year period.The guidelines and supporting Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are availableon the DAFF website at www.daff.gov.au/climatechange/carbonfarmingfutures/ action-on-the-ground.     Caring for our Country Business Case 2012-13Caring for Country - Open call funding The 201213 business plan high-lights the types of applications needed to deliver against the outstanding targetsof Caring for our Country. Open call applications In this business plan, appli-cations are invited through the open call investment process for projects over

    $20 000 (GST exclusive). As a guide, projects are not expected to exceed$500 000 (GST exclusive). The open call investment process is the principalway in which funding for projects can be sought under this business plan.
