University of Regina Moves to Tear Down Irreparable Buildings Save Elements forReuse The College Avenue Campus of the University of Regina (U of R) has received permits to tear down itsConservatory and Gallery buildings which are beyond repair as part of an estimated $60 million project topreserve the universityrsquos College Building and Darke Hall on the edge of Wascana Park

According to APPA member Dave Button a U of R vice president crews will follow advice from heritageexperts to ensure significant items are saved such as brick work cornerstones and interior elements like doorknobs One wall of the Conservatory building will be retained with some new construction behind it to ensureaccessibility The faccedilade will be protected and a prominent entry will be created Funding for the project includes $276 million in federal support The U of R is raising funds to match the federalsupport including money from Conexus and a number of donations Details are at httpwwwureginacaexternalcommunicationsfeatureshystoriescurrent201607shy27html

University of Puget Sound Opens New Sports Center Refreshment Space The University of Puget Sound opened the doors to a new Athletics and Aquatics Center on Aug 19 and theLillis Cafeacute ndash a new refreshment venue ndash on Aug 29

The $194 million sports center complements and extends the historic Memorial Fieldhouse It was fundedthrough a One [of a Kind] comprehensive campaign The project added 38000 square feet to MemorialFieldhouse and renovated 24000 square feet of space in the Pamplin Sports Center The new pool replacesone built in 1957 The center meets the needs of the 23 Logger NCAA Division III varsity teams and the schoolrsquos intramural andclub sports teams

University of Regina Moves to Tear Down Irreparable Buildings Save Elements forReuse The College Avenue Campus of the University of Regina (U of R) has received permits to tear down itsConservatory and Gallery buildings which are beyond repair as part of an estimated $60 million project topreserve the universityrsquos College Building and Darke Hall on the edge of Wascana Park
