OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL DENVER, COLORADO Food For Faith Living from the desk of Fr. Mark Throughout Scripture and history, the essential blind spot in humanity has been the nurturing of a self-righteous attitude providing a false sense of security wherein we justify our actions and attitudes because we live within the limits of the law. Legalized crime cripples wherever it prevails and carries out its deadly intentions. Talking truth to power is a sure fire way to suffer violence and retaliation. To the person of justice, such suffering is a badge of honor. The blind spot divides life into friend or foe, good or bad, right or wrong, as if everything and everyone lives a black/white level of life. Reality shows: life is a steady flow of a thousand shades of gray! In Numbers (1st reading) God’s spirit “was on Moses and the elders with him.” Two elders are missing, but are doing God’s work. Moses is asked to reprove them. Inspired by God, Moses says: “Good works are life-giving and should not be rejected because of their source.” Mercy, love, justice, forgiveness, healing, etc., happen anywhere and everywhere. They are not the preserve of a select group. St. James (2nd reading) almost describes the social injustices rampant in our nation today, a nation controlled by the wealthy and powerful resulting in a fearful, anxious and hurting majority who seem incapable or unwilling to work for necessary changes to get America back to seeking and living for the common good of all. Jesus (Gospel) is told about strangers “driving out demons in Your name.” He says: “Whoever does something worthwhile, just, good and life-giving is for Him, not against Him.” He reminds us of where evil/sin begin. It is from within (mind & heart) that we harm, hurt, demean, deny and injure others and offend God. It is not our body parts; it is me who is the cause. It is such actions that separate us from God and each other. Pretty powerful truth reminding us of life’s sacredness.

“What you get by

achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” -Zig Ziglar

We are proud of our parishioners, Thomas & Carolyn Figliolino, who were invited to the canonization of Junipero Serra in Washington, D. C. with Pope Francis. What a wonderful & grace filled opportunity! QUOTE FOR THE YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE All the faithful of Christ of whatever rank or status are called to the fullness of the Christian life and to the perfection of charity. . . . In order that the faithful may reach this perfection, they must use their strength accordingly as they have received it, as a gift from Christ. . . . They must devote themselves with all their being to the glory of God and the service of their neighbor. In this way, the holiness of the People of God will grow into an abundant harvest of good. . . . -Pope John XXIII at the opening of the Second Vatican Council on Oct. 11, 1962 RESPECT LIFE Pray that people of faith will have their strength renewed even in the face of the violence of abortion. Scripture: The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait in silence for the saving help of the Lord. - Lamentations 3:26 -Excerpts from the 40 Days of Life Campaign

RELIGIOUS ED & RCIA Please give the office a call if you are interested in renewing your faith or becoming a Catholic. We are taking registrations for RCIA and Religious Ed until the end of September. 2nd COLLECTION SEPT. 12 & 13 Thank you for your generosity in last week’s Collection for

Catholic Communications & the Catholic University of America. Because of your support, millions of faithful will have the opportunity to deepen their faith through daily resources on the internet, television, and radio and print media. Also, those who are receiving their training will be helped at the Uni-versity, so they can bring God closer to all of us through education, and through social media.

This weekend (Sept. 26 & 27) we are collecting for the Diocesan Retired and Infirmed Priests. The collection will be taken up after Communion.
