By Jessica Robinson Local History Librarian
Through May 2019, Heights Libraries is inviting community members
to celebrate the rich and diverse history of the Heights community
by sharing their memories through the In My Day oral history
project. In My Day was inspired by our Centennial Celebration
in
2016, and also by past publications in our community such as the
book In My Day: Cleveland Heights edited by Suzanne Ringler Jones
and Heights Community Congress.
Interviews are conducted using the SimplyTold
storytelling app. A collaborative tool created by Cleveland-based
tech start-up Digital Mosaic, SimplyTold allows users to both
record interviews on their phones and upload them to Digital
Mosaic’s website to share. True to its name, the app is user-
friendly, easy to install, and free of charge.
This project will help us reach outside of our library’s walls by
utilizing the SimplyTold app to collect stories so that anyone can
record their story anytime and anywhere they want so long as they
have an internet connection and the guest login. This means more
stories, more inclusion, and a better representation of our
community than has ever been captured before.
Look on pages 16–17 of this issue of Check Us Out for detailed
information about how to get involved by either signing up to be
interviewed, or using the app to record their own friends and
family members.
In My Day is funded in part by an ArtsNEXT grant from the Ohio Arts
Council.
