Revelation
Alexander, after conquering several kingdoms, was returning home. On the way back
he got unwell and his deteriorating condition took him to death bed. With death staringat him, Alexander realized how his achievements, possessions and conquests all of a
sudden were of no use. He now wanted to somehow reach home as he longed for his
mother. However, he knew his sinking health will not allow this to happen.
As he lay in hopeless condition, he called for his generals and said, “I will soon depart
from this world, however I will like you to fulfill my last three wishes”.
“My first desire is that,” he continued, “my physicians alone must carry my coffin”.After a pause, he said, “next, I desire that when my coffin is being carried to the grave,
the path leading to the graveyard be strewn with gold, silver and precious stones which
I have collected in my treasury”.
The king rested for a minute and continued, “My third and last wish is that both my
hands be kept hanging out of my coffin”. The people who had gathered there
wondered at the king’s strange wishes. But no one dare ask him. Alexander’s favorite
general kissed his hand and asked, “O king, we assure you that all your wishes will be
fulfilled. But tell us why do you make such strange wishes?” At this Alexander took a
deep breath and said, “I would like the world to know of the three lessons I have just
learnt”.

Lesson 1:
I want my physician to carry my coffin because people should understand
that no doctor can really cure any one and cannot save people from the clutches of
death. Therefore people should not take life for granted.
Lesson 2:
Strewing precious ornaments like gold, silver, etc. on the way to the
graveyard is to make people realize, that nothing out of these priceless possessions will
go with me, in spite of conquering everything and acquiring riches. Therefore chasing
wealth and making it a life goal is only a waste of time
.
Lesson 3:
Having my hands hang out of the coffin is to make people comprehend, that
I came empty handed in this world and will leave this world empty handed
. With these
concluding words, the death conquered him…
Alexander the Great realized this truth of life only when he was caught in the jaws of
death. How often do we realize this eventuality? We tend to get busy in our own world,
oblivious of what may unfolds to us in our lives. The only time we tend to think over life
in general and the truth of death in particular is when we lose our near ones or we
come across something fatal . At other times we behave as if life is a continuous process
and perhaps everything in our life is permanent.
This is certainly not to discourage you to live the life the way you want to; paradoxically
this is to help understand that if we can comprehend the meaning of life, we can makeour lives more meaningful . This will also ensure that we are more happy and successful
in our subsequent endeavor.
Psychological science has made great advances in the field of psychology and
parapsychology. This has helped us gain a more comprehensive understanding about
Mind and Brain, and how they can be stimulated to serve our needs. Today,
innumerable self development workshops are being run across the globe. Even the
corporate world cannot undermine the importance of soft-skills and behavioral training
workshops for the employees.
Greater knowledge about the working of the mind and brain has lead to inestimable
techniques to counter our impediments in life and hence move forward materialistically
and spiritually. In today’s times, Materialism and Spiritualism coexist thereby laying
impetus on Wellness and Well being.

Strategy
Life is a Strategy. Our success and failures, our upsides and downfalls, our situations
and circumstances, are the result of the strategy which we plan and execute. If we are
excelling in life, it means that our strategy is good however if we are struggling it
denotes that there is some flaw in our strategy and we need to identify and overcome
those flaws. If we don’t take our own decisions and delegate someone else to run our
lives, then that too, is an adopted strategy.
Similarly, we keep planning our lives, the results of which are in our favor at times and
against us at other times. Out of two children one may score better in the exam than the
other. Here, both of them have their own strategy though, it worked for one and did
not, for the other.
Apart from doing corporate training workshops on Emotional Quotient (EQ), Spiritual
Quotient (SQ) and Train the Trainer(TTT) Workshops, I also conduct Psychometric
Tests and Individual Counseling for students. In my experience, the parents who get
their children for Psychometric testing and counseling are those who are doing
extremely well in their lives and professions. Most of the student’s parents are
professionals including scientists, doctors, charted account engineers, etc., who are
accompanying their children to different places so that they get more insight about
themselves and are able to deal with academics more effectively. This is the strategy
which is being adopted by parents. It is not solely about heredity that a scientist’s or
doctor’s son becomes a scientist or a doctor but, about how well it is strategized by
their parents. Also, the children of these professionals will continue to do well not only
because they were intelligent but also because of the parent’s strategy in their
upbringing.
If you are to prepare a meal , how well the meal is prepared, is totally dependent onhow you cook. And how you cook it, is your strategy. The strategy will include your
knowledge, experience, for how many people you are cooking, the steps you are
following, your focus level , the mood in which you are cooking, whether you are
cooking out of choice or compulsion, etc. If you let your negative moods overpower
you or demean your knowledge and experience about cooking only because you have

never cooked it for 50 people before, then, that would be an unconscious strategy and
so you will not be able to do it. We are either consciously or unconsciously strategizing
all the time.
Concepts & Strategy
What strategy do we adopt? Do we adopt the strategy by bringing in concepts like “Noone can change my destiny” or “I will get what I am destined to get” or the concept is
that, “I am the master of my destiny”, “I am responsible for my life”. Our concepts
shape and build our life. We will further discuss the conceptualization in the next
chapters.
Emotional Quotient
Earlier, there was a lot of emphasis on Intelligence Quotient. However today, thoughIntelligence Quotient is regarded as important, it now has to share its crown with
Emotional Quotient and Spiritual Quotient. And it is this combination of Emotional and
Spiritual Quotient which takes one towards both success and higher evolution.
Emotional Quotient (EQ) is about knowing and managing our emotions. Man is nothing
without the environment and his interaction with this environment is invaluable as they
involve emotions. These emotions may be negative or positive, whichever they are, we
should know how to regulate them. One should desist from getting too excited in a
favoring situation and one should also not start brooding when things may not favor
him. The importance of EQ becomes even more important when, on an average, there
are 60,000 thoughts visiting our mind everyday.
Ways of EQ Regulation: PRICECARO
PRICECARO in Hindi means to evaluate, similarly it is indeed imperative for us to
evaluate our lives and help ourselves be more productive and happy. Each trait shared
below helps you to enhance self in every way.
Purposeful Thinking -
Thinking with a purpose and in the right perspective is the key.
This will not happen if your mind controls you. However, when you start controlling
your mind, purposeful thinking can never go out of your system. It is about thinking
constructively and every thought is invested in how you can have better understanding

about life and self . You should try and think about things which are directly related to
you and subsequently the measures that you would take to consolidate self and be
insightful .
Brooding is purposeless thinking which takes us towards failure. Therefore, purposeful
thinking is a must and it can be created by consciously observing one’s thoughts
closely and brainstorming on it. Remember, one purposeful thought leads to another
purposeful thought.
Resilience -
Thomas Edison failed Ten Thousand times before his electrical innovation;
however, he never said he failed. He said he learned ten thousand ways a thing just
won’t work. He further added he would have failed the day he would have said, “I
cannot do it any more, and I QUIT”.
Work in every field can be monotonous. Even cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar when
they go out to play their flow of emotions, motivation and enthusiasm vary. Even if they
are playing in front of thousands of people and being watched by millions at home, still
they have monotony creeping in. This is because, for them people, fans, media etc. has
become a very normal sight, therefore, there are times in their lives that they are short
of inspirations and motivation.
Resilience is about self motivation and pulling oneself out of the clutches of negativeemotions and feelings. Being resilient helps you to bounce back especially when you
THINK you are down and out. It helps you get back into the game when others would
think the game is over.
Initiative
- Each time you take initiative, no matter what the world thinks of it,
remember your initiative has given you one more learning experience. Moreover, it is
also taking you one step forward towards your objective. Therefore, never shy from
taking initiatives, especially, when your mind and body are stimulating you towards it.
Even if you are introvert particularly at work, you need to consciously develop a habit of
taking initiatives. After all , the world never knew anything about those who forgot to
take initiative.

ompetence
- It is very important to know how much you know and what you are
going to do with it. If you are incompetent, you will know deep inside that you are short
of expertise, and this will ensue negativism and fear, paralyzing you even before you
have taken the first step towards your work.
Therefore, read and research a lot in your field, as this will not only raise your
competence level but also give you confidence. Henry Ford never got a formal
education but in the field of mechanism he was as competent as anyone else.
Empathy
- You first need to be sensitive to yourself and only then you can be sensitive
towards others. Therefore, introspect; question your thoughts, feelings and behavior.
Also respect other’s feelings. Respecting does not necessarily mean agreeing with
other’s feelings. Look from the other’s point of view and strive for a ‘win-win’ situation.
Empathy would mean wearing other’s shoes and seeing where they pinch. Therefore,do not impose your views without patiently listening and understanding to what the
other has to put across.
At times people get confused between sympathy and empathy and they tend to take
sympathy as empathy. Sympathy is surreal , it is showcasing a feeling which you
covertly do not feel but would want to still show it, perhaps, since you want to be in
others good books. Therefore, sympathy is from head to heart and empathy is from
heart to heart.
onfidence
- Whatever you do, do it with conviction. We are not only talking about the
overt confidence level that one may show around but also at the covert confidence in
what one feels, thinks, and acts. You can measure your confidence level by assessing
answers to multiple questions in a situation. Test yourself by brainstorming about
various possible outcomes in a situation. You will learn about confidence in detail in the
Chapter Faith.
Adaptability
- We unconsciously create and possess a comfort zone for our self .
Today, if your doorbell rings at 21:30 especially when you are watching television,
perhaps you tend to get vexed thinking “who has come at this time to disturb and
why”.

The minute you open the door you see guests walking in and you may wear a forced
smile and greet them. This is because, we have a comfort zone and have already
planned what we have to do at that time. And when someone walks in uninvited, we
get uncomfortable and angry thereby making the guest also uneasy.
Our comfort zone is identified by our mood swings, which happens due to our mind
controlling us instead of we controlling our mind. Therefore, we not only need to see
that our moods do not influence our comfort zone but we need to keep expanding our
comfort zone. This will help us adapt ourselves to any given situation, which will further
enable us to be more flexible and not dogmatic in life. One can increase his comfort
zone and be more adaptable by regularly pushing himself in situations away from the
comfort. For e.g, missing a television show by doing something else at that time or
being more accepting and patient towards something which comes unexpected.
Rapport
- Organization are made of internal and external customers. Internal customers
are those who are working with you in the organization as your seniors, subordinates,
colleagues. External customers are the people who you cater to through your product
and services. It is imperative to have a good rapport not only with the external
customers but also with the internal customers who are evaluating your performance in
terms of desirable behavior. Therefore, we need to ensure that we enjoy good rapport
with every one and incase we dislike someone we should not have hostile behaviortowards him. Surely, you would like to be with people who are positive, pleasant and
caring. Similarly, if you are like them everyone would like to be with you.
Optimism
- An individual should always show optimism. You need to be positively
hopeful and optimistic that things would further change in your favor. Also be
pragmatically optimistic that the result Nature would bestow on you would invariably be
what you deserve and not what you desire. Remember, Pessimism stops us from acting
and leads us to brooding; however, optimism makes us act, act and act. And success
belongs to people who ACT. You would learn about confidence in detail in the hapter
Mind
.
Skill vs Attitude
- In my workshops, I usually ask my participants to think about their
role models. Role models are those who you look up to, who you would like to imbibe
various qualities and traits from. I tend to get answers from participants about their role

models being courageous, punctual , supportive, positive, kind, helpful , hard working,
etc. My next question is to identify from these traits, the qualities which the participants
believe to have academically acquired. Academically acquired means on which traits or
qualities they had formal education in school and subjects that they have read and
learned in school . And the answer is 1 or 2 traits and that too, they are not quite sure of .
Then I ask them what they thought of the other remaining traits to be and after longpause and thinking the answer is, these are Attitudes.
The inference is that the person we look up to and would like to be is not merely
because of success they have achieved but because of the attitude they displayed.
Attitude leads to behavior and is the key to Emotional Quotient while whatever one
acquires academically is Intelligence Quotient.
Once I was sitting with the General Manager of a fortune 500 organization and she tellsme that, “whether a person is from IIT or IIM is only symbolic for us, and that too till the
time the person is appearing for the interview. However, once he joins our organization
it is irrelevant for us from where he studied as now our area of focus is his attitude and
deliver-ability”.
Similarly, once speaking to a Director of another organization with a turnover of more
than 2 lac crores, he said, “we have had a lot of recruitment from IIT and other big
organizations. However, we have more often found that these recruitees have not been
able to stay with us for a very long time, since they did not have the attitude to move
out in the fields whenever desired by the organization”.
Spiritual Quotient
- Everything is about Attitude and Emotional Quotient. At times, when
we are not able to balance it and are overpowered by certain negative emotions like
fear, anxiety, uncertainty, stress we need to look at the other side which de-stresses
and rejuvenates us. This helps us become resilient and we are once again able to focuswith the Right Attitude. This other side is known as Spiritual Quotient (SQ). Spiritual
Quotient has a pivotal role to play in our lives since everything is not in our hands and
we are living in a competitive world where each one of us is trying to surge ahead in
life. Even though this moving ahead is vital however, at times we tend to lose the steam

quite similar to a car which has a very good pickup, runs smoothly however if the fuel
on which it runs gets over it will not even move. The source of fuel to the car is Spiritual
Quotient which is important as already stated it energizes and vitalizes us.
I have taken texts from Bhagvad Gita which I am sure will do the work of refueling and
helping each one of you comprehend God and Its Laws. This will help in taking things
easy but without losing passion. It will help in being Assertive yet compassionate. It will
help you in being sober and yet being astute. The book will help you to decipher
between the dichotomies of life.
Whether it is EQ or SQ, none of them can independently regulate and motivate a
person completely without the ‘Mind’.
While we have a separate Chapter on Mind, I would like to share with you briefly about
the working of the brain, which is a small portion of the mind.
Brain and Its constituents
Before we proceed to the other chapters, let us understand the working of the brain
and how we can make it more effective and for our benefit. With Brain-behavior
relationships, we determine how the brain, through structure and neural networks,
produces and controls behavior and mental processes, including emotions, personality,
thinking, learning and remembering, and problem solving. It further helps to identify the
underlying biological causes of behavior (from creative genius to mental illness) that
account for intellectual processes and personality.
Brain is the starting point for why and how we process all mental information. It is a
catalyst forming association between different senses. The active association of the
senses ensues the neurons to be more active. This produces molecules that fertilize the
neurons keeping them healthier and more resistant to the assaults of old age. Nervecells (neurons) are like a tree, as one grows older the branches start to weaken and
fall . But when nerve cells are activated by specific tasks, the cells around them grow
new networks and also retain the already existing ones. It also helps cells to produce
healthy chemicals like dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, gaba, opioids, taurine etc.

The brain is made of three main parts: the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. The
forebrain consists of the cerebrum, thalamus, and hypothalamus (part of the limbic
system). The midbrain consists of the tectum and tegmentum. The hindbrain is made of
the cerebellum, pons and medulla. Often the midbrain, pons, and medulla are referred
together as the brainstem.
Cerebrum
The cerebrum is the largest part of the human brain, associated with higher brain
functions such as thought and action. It is involved in the coordination of voluntary
motor movement, balance and equilibrium, and muscle tone. It is located just above
the brain stem and towards the back of the brain. The cerebral cortex is divided into
four lobes: frontal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, and temporal lobe.
ront l
lobes are considered as the emotional control center and home to our
personality. They are involved in motor function, problem solving, spontaneity,
memory, language, initiation, judgment, impulse control , social and sexual behavior.
The p riet l lobe involves sensation and perception, integrating sensory input, primarily
with the visual system.

http://www.readwhere.com/read/566598/Secrets-of-Success/Through-Bhagvad-Gita# 1
The tempor l lobe is involved in auditory processing and is also important for the
processing of semantics in both speech and vision. It plays a key role in the formation of
long-term memory and the occipit l lobes are the center of our visual perception
system.
Limbic System
The limbic system, often referred to as the “emotional brain”, is found buried within the
cerebrum. It supports a variety of functions including emotion, behavior, long term
memory, and olfaction. The term “limbic” comes from Latin limbus , loosely translating
as “border” or “belt”. This system contains the thalamus, hypothalamus, amygdala,
and hippocampus.
The th l mus takes care of the sensory and motor “functions while the hypothalamus
“is responsible for regulating hunger, thirst, response to pain, levels of pleasure, sexual
satisfaction, anger and aggressive behavior, and more.
The mygd l has been implicated in a variety of emotional functions. A relatively large
body of research has focused on the role of the amygdala in processing of rewards and
its use to motivate and reinforce behavior. As with aversive conditioning, the lateral ,
basal , and central amygdala have been implicated in different aspects of reward
learning and motivation, though the involvment of these nuclei differs somewhat fromtheir role in fear.
Because the amygdala learns and stores information about emotional events, it is said
to participate in emotional memory. Emotional memory is viewed as an unconscious
form of memory and contrasts with declarative memory mediated by the hippocampus.
The Right and Left Side of Brain
If you observe, while driving at a consistent speed you can converse with someone very
comfortably but as you take a turn, you stop talking momentarily. Have you ever
wondered why it happens?
This happens because as you drive, your right brain with its spatial awareness monitors
the road, while it is the left brain that takes care of the conversation and word skills.
When something in the traffic pattern requires your attention, you have to switch your

primary focus from words (left brain) over to your spatial awareness (right brain) in
order to deal with it The brain takes a few seconds to switch the attention and then
back. This is why the conversation stops while making a turn.
Thus, the role of the right and the left brain is so important As we examine the
functioning of the human brain, we discover and realize there is unimaginable potential
just waiting to be tapped. The right and left hemispheres operate and function in
different contexts. In almost 95% people, the left hemisphere is primarily logic and
detail oriented, while the right hemisphere identifies pattern and is visually oriented. The
right hemisphere has to do with pictures and visuals, while the left brain converts these
pictures and visuals into words. The left-brain and right-brain hemisphere provides the
following functions listed below.

Academically, the left side of the brain is promoted much more than the right. Much
attention is paid to arithmetic and word skills, while art and music receive little, and
intuitive development doesn’t get any.
Music naturally resonates with the right side of the mind. Do you remember listening
and singing effortlessly the old yesteryears songs, even though you may not have sung
for a very long time?
Why is it that you were able to sing with such ease? The answer lies in the right brain,
where music is experienced and memories are stored. You never had to use your left -
brain to remember the lyrics. When you heard the songs, they played into your right
brain and were automatically stored in your right-brain memory, waiting to berecalled,
sometime decades later.
Similarly, your spiritual connection is developed through the right side of the brain.
Meditation provides inner peace and the development of intuition which, in turn,
provides necessary insights into your life’s path.
Therefore, to evolve one needs to develop the latent abilities and enhance one’s
spiritual insight through developing the right side of the brain.
WAYS TO IMPROVE
BRAIN EFFICIENCY
Reading
Acquiring information through reading books pertaining to your professional field or self
development not only gives you knowledge but challenges your mind and self by
provoking ideas and further stimulating your mind.
Course
There is no age for education. Therefore take up courses regarding the subjects you
would like to learn. These may be from your unfulfilled desires in the past as a child
when you were not able to learn or do a course that you wanted to. By doing this you
are opening the brain to more learning and encouraging it to be further active.
Doing Things Differently

To increase the brain efficiency start doing things the other way round. Of course, you
can’t do everything opposite however, if you are keeping your handkerchief in left
pocket start putting it in your right pocket. Similarly, wear your watch in your right hand
if you are wearing it on your left hand. Keep shifting your rings from one finger to
another. You would immediately sense that you are not comfortable with the new ways.
This is exactly when you are stimulating your brain by trying to do things differently.
Squatting
This is a technique which opens the neural path. Squatting is what teachers make
students do in school in the form of punishment. It stimulates the neural pathway by
activating accupuncture points on ear lobes. Hold your right ear lobe with left hand and
the left ear lobe with right hand. Now, bend your knees, sit and stand up. Breathe in
while going down and breathe out while standing back up. Do this repeatedly for atleast 5 minutes. EEG scan reports show that this results in the increased synchronization
of the right and left hemisphere of the brain.
Drink Water
Since the brain tissue comprises of 85% water, brain functions rely heavily on the water
supply. The case may also be that you’re not really getting old and forgetful ; you just
need more water. In fact, studies have shown that with prolonged dehydration, braincells actually begin to shrink. Water is extremely necessary for the Brain. The sensation
of thirst and hunger are generated simultaneously to indicate the brain’s needs. If
you’re not getting plenty of water, you are likely to eat more to satisfy your body’s urge
for water.
When you feel hungry, try drinking a few glasses of water first. You may not be as
hungry as you think.
Brain Points Exercise
Take one hand so that there is as wide a space as possible between the thumb and
index finger. Place your index and thumb into the slight indentations below the collar
bone On each side of the sternum (flat narrow bone connected with the ribs;
breastbone). Press lightly in a pulsing manner. At the same time put the other hand
over the navel area of the stomach. Gently press on these points for about 2 minutes.

This helps by improving the blood flow to the brain, thus activating the entire brain. The
increased blood flow helps improve concentration skills required for reading, writing,
comprehending, etc.
Hand and Knee Exercise
Stand or sit. Put the right hand across the body to the left knee as you raise it, and thendo the same thing for the left hand on the right knee. Move yourself as if you were
marching. Do this either sitting or standing for about 1 minute. This exercise helps
coordinate right and left brain by exercising the information flow between the two
hemispheres. It is useful for achieving higher levels of concentration.
Ankle and Finger Exercise
Stand or sit. Cross the right leg over the left at the ankles. Take your right wrist andcross it over the left wrist and link up the fingers so that the right wrist is on top. Bend
the elbows out and gently turn the fingers in towards the body until they rest on the
sternum (breast bone) in the center of the chest. Stay in this position. Keep the ankles
crossed and the wrists crossed and then breathe evenly in this position for a few
minutes. You will be noticeably calmer after that time.
Apart from these Drawing, Painting, Puzzles, Crossword, Sudoku are some of the other
exercises and methods by which you can improve your brain efficiency.
Mind Coach
Mind Coach invented by me, is a mobile software that helps to confront and regenerate
the unpleasant emotions into desired positive behavior. It has scientifically researched
psychological questions and solutions. It stimulates your brain to answer without you
having to make an attempt to answer it and slowly it takes you to a higher cognitive and
rationale level , e.g. if we were to ask you your name, where you stay or your favorite
color, you would not have to think and answer since your brain responds to these
questions automatically. Similarly, in Mind Coach there are brain stimulating questions,
statements and solutions which overpower your negative emotion and subsequently
you exit it.

Psychologically it has been seen that each individual is resourceful and has the ability to
overcome any emotion. However, one may not be able to since he does not know how
to overcome it. There are scientific psychological methods which bring an individual out
of a powering emotion which he wants to get rid of . And that method is ‘empowering
self by introspection’.
Usually what happens when an individual is gripped with anger or fear, he is so riveted
by it that he keeps looking at the problem or continues to feel hatred towards the
person and does not think about the solution. There is a method of empowering the
individual to come out of the said emotion by asking certain questions along with some
techniques of attaining solutions. With every question that a person answers internally it
makes him feel better and by the end of the exercise, he is liberated from the clutches
of the negative emotion.
It deals with emotions like anger, fear, uncertainty, stress, decision making, delaying
decision, under confidence, anxiety, avoiding, impatience, etc. It helps in assessing the
level of emotion, addressing the underlying causes, and provides techniques to
effectively deal and come out of the particular emotion. The usage is through cellular
phone and is ready to help you at anytime. You can visit www.corporatetrainingindia.net

Science of Evolution through Yugas
Like we just discussed the human science, there is the science of evolution through
Yugas. The knowledge of both these realms helps in treading the path of spirituality
with more clarity.
There have been many self realized souls who have shown the path to mankind of
leading a successful life. In fact I strongly believe that human science is a very small
part of spiritual science. The great sages of past have said various things and due to
their intellect they were able to guide many souls. They have also described in depth
about mind and senses, therefore science and spirituality are inter-related and are
mutually dependent. I will like to illustrate this through the calculation presented by
Swami Yukteshwar Maharaj ji and see how relevant it is today so that we can appreciate
the potency of spirituality.

According to the science of evolution through the yugas, Kali Yuga is supposed to be
the worst of the four yugas. The human intellect is only quarterly developed and man
cannot grasp anything beyond the gross material creation.
The best is Satya Yuga in which man can comprehend God and the spirit beyond the
invisible world. Satya Yuga is followed by Treta Yuga and then comes Dwapara Yuga
and finally Kali Yuga. The general impression among Hindus world wide is that we are in
Kali Yuga. But Sri Sri Swami Yukteswar Maharaj ji (1855-1936) the guru of Parmahansa
Yogananda ji (the author of Autobiography of a Yogi and the founder of Yogoda
Satsang Society which mainly operates from Ranchi and America) had a different
opinion. He was a self -realized Swami who took Samadhi in 1936.
The general understanding is that Satya Yuga is for 17,28,000 years, Treta Yuga is for
12,96,000 years, Dwapara Yuga is for 8,64,000 years and Kali Yuga is for 4,32,000years. Swami Sri Sri Yukteswar Maharaj ji had said there is a story behind the above
mentioned figures and he has also described it.
The calculation mistake started during the reign of Raja Parikshat, just after the
completion of Dwapara Yuga. At that time Maharaja Yudhisthira, noticing the
appearance of dark Kali Yuga, gave his throne to his grandson Raja Parikshat. Maharaj
Yudhisthira together with his all wise men of his court went to the Himalayas. Thus there
was no one left in the court of Raja Parikshat who could understand the principle of
correctly calculating the duration of several yugas. Hence after the completion of
Dwapara Yuga nobody dared to announce the introduction of Kali Yuga. Therefore the
first year of Kali Yuga was numbered along the age of Dwapara Yuga. After many many
years the wise men of that time realized that the period of Kali Yuga is 1200 years. But
as their intellect was not suitably developed they came to a conclusion that these 1200
years of Kali was not the ordinary years of our earth but were the years of Gods
consisting of 12 months and 30 days in each month.
And each god day was equal to one year on earth. Going by this-
1 day= 1 year
360 days= 360 years
Satya Yuga : 360 years X 4800 Years 17,28,000 years

Treta Yuga : 360 years X 3600 Years=12,96,000 years
Dwapara Yuga: 360 Years X 2400 Years= 8,64,000 years
Kali Yuga : 360 Years X 1200 Years=4,32,000 years.
He further stated that out of 4800 years of Satya Yuga (400 +4000+ 400) the four
hundred years before and after Satya Yuga are the cusp. Similarly 3600
(300+3000+300), 2400 (200+2000+200) and 1200 (100+1000+100) before and
after of Treta, Dwapara and Kali respectively are also cusp. His calculations further
indicate that in 1600 AD the Kali Yuga (the last 100 years of Kali Yuga were cusp as
explained earlier) so the characteristics of Dwapara Yuga also started coming into force.
And in 1600 AD William Gilbert discovered magnetic forces. In 1609, Kepler discovered
the Law of astronomy and Galileo produced a telescope. In around 1670 Newton
discovered the Law of Gravitation. And in 1899 the cusp of 200 years of Dwapara Yuga
was also completed and now we are in the Full Dwapara Yuga and that is the reason
man has taken a big leap in last hundred years.
If you look at the human history of last two thousand years man had only indulged in
wars, captivity, disrespect to fellow human beings; specially women, working
undemocratically etc. But in last five hundred years, each day man seems to be
evolving. He has started following democratic process world wide, the disrespect of fellow human beings though has not come to an end but is much less, men and women
are looked up with parity. Emotions of others are respected more than ever. When he
had revealed this calculation in 1894 AD he called it 26th falgun, 194 Dwapara.
I am sure from these facts and logics you would understand that a) we are not living in
Kali Yuga and b) we are moving forward and possess advance brains which we need to
further evolve and rise in life. This will take us to the next chapter which explains about
God and its Laws. For me there could not have been a better knowledge plane than the
text from Bhagvad Gita which explains the theory of life.
