I have reviewed the portfolio that includes at least 20 designs, a design statement, a resumé, letter of introduction, and CD or DVD portfolio of Sean D’Auria and find that it meets Plan V Graphic Design and Marketing major requirements for the B.A. in Art.

When I begin a project, I do as much research on the company or product that I will be designing for. By doing this I understand who the target will be for my design. Futhermore, I come to understand what the company/product offers that is unique. With this knowledge, I begin to sketch ideas for what I would like to accomplish with the design. I extend this stage of my design process a few days to ensure I think about every possibility. After I make a number of thumbnails I feel comfortable with, I move on to drawing larger and more detailed sketches. When I feel confident with a handful of designs I begin to design them on the computer. While designing these larger sketches on the computer, more than likely, I come up with new ideas and continue to experiment with ideas for my design. After I develop a few solid design concepts in black and white, I begin to add color to the designs. While I am beginning to design these concepts, I do font studies to see what particular fonts go with my design ideas. After I determine which font I will use, I bring my final design concepts together with the text. Finally, I print out my designs to see how they look when printed, if I like the way they look I continue to show my superiors to be approved. If I do not approve of the way they look, I will go back to designing until I am satisfied with my design. More often than not, my designs are simple, clean, professional, well thought out, and creative. Unless I am requested to design something more complicated or not as clean, I tend to favor clear designs. I try to find the simpliest most effective way to express my message to my target audience in all my designs.

unisolar
uni solarThis is a proposed logo for United Solar Ovonic. This company is a leader in solar energy. They have developed a innovative product that is unlike any other type of solar panel. I developed this logo to emulate the company’s product, which is thin and flexible. This logo is also supposed to represent the sun. Lastly, this logo is supposed to be a play on the name of the company, with “united” shapes.

LOGOS
This is a proposed logo for Eastman Chemical Company and Eastman Innovation Lab. This company is extremely involved in the producing of polymers and creating cutting edge products for consumers. I tried to show this cutting edge characteristic in both of their logos. I made a one of a kind typeface and used powerful colors. Both of these logos are in their simplest form, however, they are effective. 08
LOGOS
This is a proposed logo for Conquista. Conquista was positioning itself into the American market from Peru. This logo was unlike any other I had ever designed before: it was targeted towards children and had to be playful. I am very pleased with the outcome, I tried to emulate the logos of OREO and Chips Ahoy! I knew this had to appeal to Americans but I wanted to show it’s South American culture with the colors. I also chose these colors because they have good memories linked to them for people, such as Christmas. 09
LOGOS
These are the proposed logos for soylife. This company produced diary products that were lactose free, so they were able to be consumed by individuals who are lactose intolerant. They were healthy and organic. I tried to show a hip, clean and modern logo that would appeal to people who were interested in living healthy lives. I also wanted this logo to appeal to people who are invested in the “green” movement. 10
LOGOS
This is a proposed logo for must who is a sub company under the mother company of Schullo. Must is a mustard company who is very popular in South and Central America. The previous logo was plain and boring and I wanted to portray this company as modern and interesting. The 3D movement is very modern and shows this particular company is up to date with common practices and principles today. 11

These are two proposed logos for Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California. When we were asked to design the new logo for this company, the client said that they wanted an uplifting and cheerful logo. They also wanted to have some sort of light source to show hope for the victims. I used a similar shape that they had in their previous logo as the drop of a “flame.” I repeated it three times to make it look like a person with their hands in the air, which was uplifting. I used colors that were passionate and real but also cheerful. 12

13Above is the proposed stationaries for unisolar. I created a business card that was unique. It folds in half and has a dye cut of the logo, this way when the business card in folded it will still show orange. However, when the business card is sitting on a desk opened, you can see through the logo. There is also an letterhead for official business and a letterhead for in office memos. The business letterhead is more professional and optimal for finding after being filed with the side tab.

All the designs are simple, clean and professional, which is similar to the company. I used dark grey, red and white because they are powerful colors that are visually attractive.

STATIONERIES
20Above is the proposed stationary for must. I carried over the theme of mustard spilling over the top, from the packaging of this product. Next I enlarged the logo for this company and created a water mark on the paper.
ADVERTISEMENTS
21These are the proposed advertisements for must. The 3 advertisements on the left will be billboards and the 3 on the right will be bus stop or magazine advertisements. The idea behind these ads is that there are 2 essentials for people to live their life and then a bottle of must mustard. Then the tagline, “it’s a must” to send the message home that must is an essential for people’s lives now.
PRODUCTS
22These 3 images are the proposed packaging for Conquista. These cookies were targeted towards young children so I decided to create a type of mascot that would be playful and inviting for children. I used a pattern to cover the rest of the package because it is interesting and neutral so it does not take away from the face on the front of the package.

23
PRODUCTS
24These are the proposed labels for soylife. This product was organic and made from 100% soy, so I wanted to make the packaging feel organic and natural. This is why I used the leaf shape for the label. I chose these particular colors based on the flavors of the beverage.

PRODUCTS
26These are the proposed labels for must. I wanted to develop a label that would stand out on the shelf against Kraft’s and French’s mustard. Instead of doing the typical yellow package I decided to go more of a cream color and make it appear as if the mustard was pouring out of the container. I feel as though this is more appealing to the eye than just plain yellow.

BLOW is the unlikely story of George Jung’s roller coaster ride from middle-class high school football hero to the heart of Pable Escobar’s Medellin cartel-- the largest importer of the United States cocaine supply in the 1980s. Jung’s early business of fl ying marijuana into the United States from the mountains of Mexico took a dramatic turn when he met Carlos Lehder, a young Colombian car thief with connections to the then newly born cocaine operation in his native land. Together they created a new model for selling cocaine, turning a drug used primarily by the entertainment elite into a massive and unimaginably lucrative enterprise-- one whose earnings, if legal, would have ranked the cocaine business as the sixth larg-est private enterprise in the Fortune 500.
The ride came to a screeching halt when DEA agents and Florida police busted Jung with three hundred kilos of coke, effectively unraveling his fortune. But George wasn’t about to go down alone. He planned to bring down with him one of the biggest cartel fi gures ever caught.
With a riveting insider account of the lurid world of international drug smuggling and a super-charged drama of one man’s meteoric rise and desperate fall, Bruce Porter chronicles Jung’s life using unprecedented eyewitness sources in this criti-cally acclaimed true crime classic.

Bruce Porter was born in Austin, Texas and is the son of Kevin and Audrey Porter. He attended BYU for four years. While in school Bruce began writing stories and soon discovered he wanted to be-come an author. His parents fought with him about his decision as a career but Bruce was confi dent it was the right move for him. Bruce based his book on the true story of George Jung and his life. This book was then made into a very successful movie called “BLOW.”

28Above is the proposed book cover for the book “Blow.” This book is about a man who was one of the first people to bring cocaine to the United States and became extremely wealthy. The white powder on the front and back cover are supposed to appear to be cocaine. Finally, I used powder to form each letter of “blow.”

34This is proposed brochure for the Childhood Caner Foundation of Southern California. They wanted an informative and uplifting design that would not make it seem like cancer was a death sentence. I decided to use photos of children who were fighting cancer but still enjoying their lives. I believe this color scheme is uplifting as well as business oriented enough to show that this foundation is really there to help families.
