NOTES FROM THE COMMITTEE

Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to everybody connected with Seaford footballclub. We hope you enjoy your visit to the Shooting Field today. We also welcome matchreferee Neal Saxton, and his two assistants Stephen Johnson and Ray Welch. Since welast played at home on the 20th September we have had a run of three consecutive awaymatches. The first of these was an excellent 3-0 win away at Haywards Heath. Aparticularly satisfying win given the volume of personnel that have travelled from hereacross to Hanbury Park in recent months. Our goals from Chad, Ryan and Callum gaveus a comfortable victory on the day. Two cup matches against Division I opponents sincethen have been very good tests that we should take plenty of positives from. Firstlytaking Crowborough to extra time in a cracking match, and it could easily swung our wayhad we taken our chances in that match. A really enjoyable game in great surroundings.Last Saturday was slightly tougher as we went down 5-2 to a very good, young, talentedLoxwood side. The turning point came on the hour as Aaron was sent off for aprofessional foul. The fact we were in the game at half time was great, but the tenminutes after half time (two goals and the sending off) was really the end of the contest. We did however keep going and a great late strike from Jack was reward for a hard shifteveryone put in. A real positive in these games was the first two games for the club forPaul Kennett. Paul is a local lad and hugely experienced and has played over 400 gamesfor Worthing (most as captain) and has played conference football. Although not totallymatch fit ,his quality was obvious to see, and having him in the team gave everyone atimely lift. Having him around the club should be great in helping all players develop aswell as strengthening the side (although not available today!)Today’s opponents Seaford currently sit at the foot of the league. They appear to havehad a few tough years results wise, however we know from being down there for a fewseasons not so long ago, that things can turn around, and one thing is for sure they willbe fully up for this game and we need to perform well to give ourselves the best chanceof taking all 3 points. On the reserve side the team, now under the guidance of the returning Mark Currier havehad a win and a draw in recent weeks and we are hoping they will start moving up thetable as the squad strengthens. It is great to see Mark back at the club and he hasalready got the lads more organised and playing some good football. Last weeks 2-2 drawagainst Hassocks was a good game. The under 18s are going well. Both teams won last weekend and the County squad beata really useful Worthing team 1-0 in the cup, and the Arun side won 4-3 away atLittlehampton. We have been talking this week about putting on a big Christmas matchlike we have done in some recent years, and getting the all the clubs players from 7 yrsand above, as well as parents to come and attend. We are hoping this will be on a Fridayin the lead up to Christmas. We did this a couple of years ago and had a crowd ofapproaching 300. We will speak to the league and hopefully get this in the diary as soonas we can.Anyway, enough talk of Christmas. No early presents today lads. Lets get 3 points andpush on.THE COMMITTEE

Loxwood 5 Steyning Town 2Round Two of the FA Vase brought the Barrowmen no luck onSaturday, going out 5-2 away to SCFL Division One sideLoxwood. After last week's win at Haywards Heath and acommendable performance over at Crowborough in the RURCup on Tuesday (only losing 4-2 in extra-time having led 2-0)we went to Plaistow Road with high hopes, especially with theexperienced former Worthing player Paul Kennett now onboard. We were however, hampered by the unavailability ofChad Milner and Ryan Warr. Loxwood started the matchstrongly in pursuit of an early goal and in the opening minutesstrikers Michael Woods and Dean Wright both came close toopening the scoring and Aaron Jeal did well to keep out a'cross-cum-shot' from Ollie Gill. We took a long time to get intothe game and early on the closest we came to a real chancewas when a short pass from Lewis Levoi just outside the boxdidn't fall quite right for Kris Harding. On 22 minutes theinevitable happened, when Dean Wright got on the end of across from the left to shoot on the turn and find the bottomcorner to give the Magpies the lead. 1-0 Loxwood. The goaldid serve to push us into a higher state of urgency with RobHare probing forward from the back and on 34 minutes a deepcross from Rob was nodded down by Kris Harding for MattDodd to net from close range. 1-1. We then had to defendstrongly to keep the home side out with Jack Boxall doingreally well to head an Eddie French effort from a corner off theline shortly before the break. We also had a bit of a let-offwhen an unmarked Dean Wright shot narrowly wide from closerange when it was probably easier to score. Half Time, 1-1.Any hope we had of getting anything from this Tie was all butdashed within the first ten minutes of the re-start. On 48Michael Woods met Gill's cross to drill past Aaron to restorethe Magpies lead, 2-1, and three minutes later things gotworse when a suicidal back-pass by Ollie Pickup led to Aaroncommitting a foul on Dean Wright to earn a Red Card. OllieGill tucked the resulting penalty past reserve keeper JamieHollis, on for Pickup. 3-1 Loxwood. The rest of the game wasa formality really with Jamie Hollis having to 'earn his corn'with some fine saves, in particularly one at full stretch from aheader by Joe Holvey and also down low from Gill at closerange. Substitutions were made with Sam Smith replacing MattDodd and Kilner-Brown on for Lee Early but the pattern of thegame didn't change. On 65 Joe Holvey cut in from the right toblast home a fourth goal for the Magpies, 4-1, and then on 78substitute Mike Casselman made it five. 5-1 Loxwood.Towards the end Eddie French nearly gave us a consolation byheading into his own net but with virtually the last kick JackBoxall got on the end of Kris Harding's free-kick to find the homenet and make the final score-line look a little better. A heavydefeat but against a decent Division One side.Final score - Loxwood 5 Steyning Town 2.Next Saturday home to Seaford in the League.Steyning line-up - Jeal, Hare, Pickup (Hollis), Kennett, Parsons(capt), Dodd (Smith), Early (Kilner-Brown) , Boxall, Levoi,Towse, Harding, Sub not used - FinchRef: Elliott Heward Assts: Chris Busby & Alex Taylor-Rose
