Air Resistance• When the parachute is deployed (comes out),

it will slow the parachuter down… due to air resistance.

Impact Crater

• Asteroids bombard (hit) the moon as they do the Earth. Evidence of asteroid hits can be seen as impact craters due to the force of the impact.

Deoxygenates• Napalm is a substance that is

formulated to burn at a specific rate and adhere to materials. Napalm is mixed with gasoline in various proportions to achieve this. Another useful (and dangerous) effect, primarily involving its use in bombs, was that napalm "rapidly deoxygenates the available air" as well as creating large amounts of carbon monoxide causing suffocation.

Carbon Monoxide• Since CO is colorless and

odorless (unlike smoke from a fire), detection in a home environment is impossible without such a warning device.

• Electric heaters are safer because there is no danger of carbon monoxide poisoning

Adenoviruses• Responsible for 5–10% of upper

respiratory infections in children, and many infections in adults as well.

• Coomon types: conjunctivitis, tonsilitis , ear infections, and gastroenteritis (stomach flu).

• In babies, adenoviruses can also cause coughing fits that look almost exactly like whooping cough. Adenoviruses can also cause viral meningitis or encephalitis.

• New strain emerging - Ad14 (adenovirus 14) variant."

Gregory Mendel• Gregor Johann Mendel (

July 20, 1822[1] – January 6, 1884) was an Austrian Augustinian priest and scientist often called the "father of modern genetics" for his study of the inheritance of traits in pea plants. Mendel showed that the inheritance of traits follows particular laws, which were later named after him

Science Quote of the Day

• “The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.”
