IMPORTANT INFORMATION SCHOOL FEES Please remember all school fees must be paid in full for your child to be able to participate in any excursion or activities; Flagstaff hill excursion is coming up soon! This also includes sporting events. Direct debits from Centrelink and B-pay instalment plans can both be arranged directly at school. School bonus money will be coming soon - it's a great way to pay off your fees! Dear Parents, Friends and Carers, During term two staff are working in Professional Learning Teams to in- crease knowledge and skills in particular areas of teaching. They will also to develop specific programs, complete a curriculum audit and develop a revised curriculum in line with the National Curriculum AusVELS. One team is working on the implementation of the National Curriculum under the direction of Educational Consultant Trish Blythe and the draft is al- most complete. The team is consulting regularly with staff across the school and we look forward to sharing this comprehensive, sequential and exciting curriculum with you in the near future. Over recent years the WEPS staff and School Council made a commit- ment to improve school attendance and the results have been excellent, with targets being met at most levels of the school. School attendance is directly linked to student achievements and outcomes. Research states that more than ten days away per year may have a negative impact on learning. Please keep the 10 days in mind as a general indicator and of course if your child is ill, the best place is home. Arriving late to school can also affect student learning, with our explicit literacy and numeracy teaching beginning close to 9am. YEAR 1 /2- Congratulations and welcome to Sharyn Warren who will be teaming with Michaela Allender in the Year 1 /2 D class for the remainder of term 2. Sharyn is no stranger to WEPS having spent many years work- ing as an ES Staff member prior to completing her Bachelor of Education. MATHEMATICS ACCCELERATION PROGRAM – Lea Baker, Mathe- matics Teaching and Learning Consultant and teacher is leading a mathe- matics acceleration program with a number of students from years 4 and 5. Sally Kilpatrick is working with Lea to implement this program on three days each week for term two. We are delighted to have Lea return to WEPS and share her knowledge and expertise with staff and students. GARDEN CLUB- Year 3 /4A and the Year 6 Garden Club boys enjoyed a great garden trip yesterday, organised by Jimmy in appreciation of their contribution to the Garden Club. Both gardens provided the children with wonderful examples of people creating their own piece of paradise with hard work and dedication. PARENT PAYMENTS- Please take time to read our School Council Pres- ident , Bronwyn Patel’s update on Parent Payments. It is our goal to have all students involved in all school activities- but we do rely on your financial input. If you need assistance with Parent Payments, please do not hesitate to contact the school – we are more than happy to assist you in arranging a payment plan to ensure you have the funds available when you need them. UNIFORMS – Unfortunately there are still a number of children not in full school uniform. The school uniform list is on the blog or available at the office. There are plenty of supplies in the school uniform shops – culottes, hats, scarves etc. Jeans are not WEPS school uniform- there are navy track suits and cargo pants. Our uniform unites us as a school and stu- dents wearing the WEPS uniform correctly and with pride, is a wonderful walking advertisement for our school. Tomorrow is the Warrnambool City Council Gazetted Public Holiday which Warrnambool schools are to observe. There will be no school to- morrow Thursday May 2 nd . Anzac Day

On Anzac Day the school captains and a few students

from East went to the Anzac Day service.

First we assembled for the march. We marched from

Thomas the Jewellers to The Lighthouse Theatre. Once

we arrive at The Lighthouse Theatre we went inside to

listen to some speeches and poems about the war and

ANZAC day. After that we marched to the War Memo-

rial near the RSL to lay wreaths and listen to the na-

tional anthems of New Zealand and Australia. We’d like

to thank all the students who came to commemorate all

the soldiers who fought for our freedom. We would also

like to thank the parents who came and helped and

watched. We’d especially like to thank Ms Holdsworth

and Janet for organising it. By Ollie and Dailin.

Congratulations Jye Rantall, Mitchell Colson, Angel Bull, Chloe O’Leary, Memphis Kelly, tom Cameron, Starsha Kane and Rhiannon Kirby on being chosen as Aussie Of The Month
