Centralised Organ Donation Register
Centralised Organ Donation RegisterThe Department of Health set up the Centralised Organ Donation Register in 2008 to make it more convenient for prospective donors to voluntarily register their wish to donate organs after death, and for such wish to be more reliably recorded.
The Register will enable medical personnel responsible for organ donation to know upon the patients' death about their wish to donate organs, and the bereaved family to acknowledge the deceased's wish to rekindle lives of other people.
Information stored in the Register is treated withstrict confidentiality. Only staff of the Department of Health responsible for managing the Register and Organ Donation Coordinators of the Hospital Authority can access its information.

In June 2016, the government introduced the “Organ Donation Promotion Charter” and invited various organisations, enterprises and schools to sign the charter, thus signifying their support towards the promotion of organ donation.
The signatories pledge to promote the culture of organ donation first from their own self by encouraging their staff or members to register their wish to donate organs. They will further solicit support from the family members of their staff or members and help promote the culture in the community.
