INTERNATIONAL PARIS AIR SHOW

Paris Le Bourget

2013 17-23 juinJune 17-23

The 50th International Paris Air Show at Le Bourget, held from 17 to 23 June 2013, has confirmed the event’s status as the largest event dedicated to the aerospace industry in the world.

The record set in 2011 for the number of exhibitors at the Show was broken, with 2,215 exhibitors present this year. Despite very tricky weather conditions, trade visitors and general public numbers remained strong, with a total of over 315,000 visitors during the week. From a business point of view, this year’s Show was an exceptional and historical one for many aircraft manufacturers, with $150 billion of orders announced by industry professionals.

A unique location for holding meetings and presenting innovations, the Show was packed with events and new products. This year, the focus was on improving the exhibitor and visitor experience as well as on the Show’s ambitious sustainable development approach, which led to it achieving ISO 20121 certification.

This year’s Show also saw a strong presence from the Russian aviation industry, providing the opportunity to welcome a Sukhoï SU-35 to a Western show for the first time. The impressive demonstrations put on by the plane rocked the Show and thrilled the spectators. In total, some 150 planes, helicopters and drones were presented in the air and on the ground, including the Airbus A380 and A400M, the Rafale and Neuron from Dassault, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the Kamov 52 helicopter, the ballet of the Tigers and the Patrouille de France (celebrating its 60th anniversary). These aircraft brought the Show to life with their aerobatics, painting the Le Bourget sky blue, white and red. As the cherry on the top, visitors also had the chance to admire the new Airbus A350 which flew over the Show in front of the French President only a few days after its maiden flight.

In this report, discover why the International Paris Air Show remains unquestionably the largest in the world.

This year’s Show was particularly rich in terms of events and new services offered to visitorsand exhibitors:

THE CAREERS PLANE

GIFAS organised a huge exhibition, presented by aerospace industry professionals, which introduced visitors to 50 qualified operator, technician and engineer trades in a fun, educational way. Some 70,000 visitors enjoyed this educational exhibition.

THE MOBILE APP

This year, we made a new mobile app available to visitors and exhibitors at the Show, giving them access to a wide range of information including exhibitor lists, Show maps, and event and flight schedules. This innovative app not only provided geolocalisation outdoors but also in the halls - a world first at an event! It also provided visit itineraries, helping visitors easily find their way around the Show.

EVENT AND NEW PRODUCT PLATFORMS

We wanted to provide exhibitors with as many options as possible for the Show, so this year they had the chance to announce all their events and present their innovations. This information was posted in real time on the website and the mobile app.

BUSINESS MEETINGS

This year, the Show once again organised the Business Meetings event. The aim of this initiative is to use targeted meetings to make it easier for SMBs, trade visitors and purchasers to meet. This year, the event brought together:

4,938 scheduled appointments

236 trade visitors and 383 exhibitors

Participants from 39 countries

4 buyers’ conferences

ALTERNATIVE AVIATION FUEL PAVILION

An educational, scientific exhibition on the topic of aviation biofuel was set up in Hall 1. The neighbouring space was used by ten innovative, international companies to present the latest innovations in the area of alternative aviation fuels.

ROCKETRY CHALLENGE

The international final of the Rocketry Challenge, a mini rocket competition for secondary school pupils from France, United States and United Kingdom, was held on Friday 21 June 2013.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT APPROACH

In addition to celebrating its 50th Show, the International Paris Air Show also achieved the ISO 20121 standard. This acknowledges the Show’s responsible management policy and commitments which were launched over a year ago with a focus on three major areas: welcoming attendees, managing environmental impacts and implementing tools to raise awareness about sustainable development. This makes the Paris Air Show the first international show and the third major international event to receive this certification, behind the 2012 Olympics and Eurovision 2013.
