Mindful of othersI have had an urgent appeal from the Thurston County Food Bank for food dona-tions. We are one of the main churches in Olympia who supply needed food items and financial assistance. Because of our transition of Mass times and places, some folks forget or find it difficult to bring items. We will be diligent in reminding you the week before in hope of assisting you in generosity. Thank you for all you do for those in need.

Vacation Bible SchoolOur children and parents will be gathering each day this week for five wonderful and faith-filled mornings. Please keep them in your prayers.

Save the DatesOur parish picnic and Mass on the Grass is back. Sunday, July 15 at 5pm – we will begin with Life Teen Mass. Please join us. After Mass, we will have food and drinks, popcorn and cotton candy, an adult bever-age (beer and wine) section, a bounce house and other children’s games and just a great time enjoying one another.

This year we are pleased to have a band, The Edgewater Trio, to provide live music. They were with us at the appreciation dinner this year and were a big hit!Once it begins to get dark, we will have a few fire pits for s'mores and roasting marshmallows. To cap off the festivities we will watch Lake Fair fireworks from our lawn chairs and won’t have the hassle of traf-fic and parking.

Media MondaysI hope you are enjoying the short renovation videos that Rex Yabut is putting together. It is really fun. We will be doing something a bit different in the next few weeks, so keep watching and tell your fellow parishioners, family, neighbors, cowork-ers and friends. This is a simple way of outreach and evangelization.

Encouraging and sobering A parishioner shared this link to an article about sui-cide and the effect of faith, especially for Catholics, on prevention. I thought you might find it interesting.ht tp: //www.lat imes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-church-attendance-sui-cide-20160629-snap-story.htmlI close with these words of Jesus to St. Faustina on mercy:“Daughter, when you go to confession, to this fountain of My mercy, the Blood and Water which came forth from My Heart always flows down

upon your soul and ennobles it.

“Every time you go to con-fession, immerse yourself entirely in My mercy, with great trust, so that I may pour the bounty of My grace upon your soul.

“When you approach the confessional, know this, that I Myself am waiting for you. I am only hidden by the priest, but I Myself act in your soul.

Here the misery of the soul meets the God of mercy.

“Tell souls that from this fount of mercy souls draw graces solely with the vessel of trust. If their trust is great, there is no limit to My generosity. The torrents of grace inundate humble souls.’”

In Christ, through the inter-cession of Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati, I love you.

The road to get where I'm at today hasn't been easy. I suf-fered severe postpartum depression after the birth of our daughter, Clara. I had barely recovered when we lost our son, Teddy, at birth. Father Jim and our parish community rallied around us and gave us the strength to go on with their outpouring of meals, love, and prayers. But healing took a long time. After our youngest son Mickey was born, just 11 months after our loss, I again felt the prompting of the Holy Spirit, asking me to do more, give back, and serve. So in 2014, Claude and I began to lead the Kindergartners in the Liturgy of the Word for Children with Clara as our assistant. We felt it was a way to be more involved in our own children's faith formation. But like so many faith formation ministries, the "teacher" is also learning and growing alongside the children. We were happily serving in this capacity when I received a personal invitation from a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Leader to consider training to become a Level 1 Catechist. Clara had been in the Atrium for years, but it was always a bit of a mystery to me what happened in these sessions. Curiosity and my desire to serve compelled me to complete the training. I have now been a Level 1 Catechist for the past two years. At first I was nervous, unsure if I was adequate for the role, but I firmly believe if God calls you to it, He will get you through it. I knew that my love of music, prayer, and order would serve me well in the Atrium environment.

Walking alongside these 3-to-6-year-old children on their journey of faith, I find my own faith deepened. Their prayers, questions, art, and peace in silence all move me.We remember the Great Commission from the Gospel we heard last week. Jesus tells us to "go" and "make disciples." What better way to follow Jesus's invitation than to ignite the spark of love for our Catholic faith among the youngest in our parish, providing them with the foundation they need to become, as Matthew Kelly would say, the best version of themselves. You'll find, in the process that you are becoming the best version of yourself.

Our Lady of FatimaWould you like to host a trav-eling statue of the Blessed Mother in your home? The statue is 27” tall, not counting her crown which adds about 4 more inches. It is made of china and so needs a special place so that it does not get chipped or broken. It is a powerful experience to host a statue of Our Lady gathering and carrying our personal and family prayers from house to house and, creating a deeper bond-ing among us as a faith community. If you are interested in host-ing the statue for two weeks, please contact Kathy Arnold at [email protected] or (360) 870-5901.

PRAY FOR OUR Catechumens

Throughout the whole year we accompany men and women who are preparing to become Catholic. Catechumens are preparing for Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion while others, already baptized in other Christian communi-ties, are preparing to be received into the full communion of the Catholic Church. Please pray for these men and women that the Holy Spirit will strengthen them and bring to perfection the good work the Lord has begun in them. This week let us pray together, Lord, guide our catechumens and all those preparing for the sacraments of Christian initiation into the fullness of truth and keep them safe from error, doubt, and unbelief (RCIA 168).

For more information about the RCIA contact Andrew Casad, Steward for Christian Initiation, at (360) 292.7127 or [email protected] prepare for Baptism at Easter Vigil 2018

Do a service project together or have a movie night and watch one of the great Catholic movies on FORMED. Stay connected and keep sup-porting each other! If you are not in a small group yet, some groups are open to receiving new members at any time. Check out the open groups on our website. Dear St. Michael Parishioners,Believe it or not, we have reached the end of the 2017-2018 school year at St. Michael Parish School! This has been a wonderful year of learning for our students. I am so grateful for the roles our parents and teachers played in supporting the growth of our students.I can now confirm that we will have a three-year-old preschool program next year! This class will be taught by Mrs. Fiala and it will be an afternoon program sched-uled for three days per week. We will not be offering an afternoon Pre K program, but we will be continuing our morning Pre K program. Please help us spread the word during the summer about our St. Michael Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten. Prospective families can con-tact us through our website or by calling (360) 754-5131.As we leave for the summer, I am blessed to share the fruit of a long-term project that we have been diligently working on this year. Our new school website is finalized and “live”! Please explore it at http://stmikesolympia.org. Some of my favorite features include the calendar on the left sidebar, the “absent/tardy” reporting form, the “schedule a tour” form, and the overall new organization of the site. We hope that you find it helpful as we look ahead to next year. For this summer, please refer pro-spective families to our website so that they can learn about us and contact us regarding registration.I hope that you have a safe, fun, and rewarding summer with your children. Summer is such a wonderful time to make lasting memories, recharge, and come together in meaningful ways as a family. Have a wonderful summer!Summer Blessings,Connor Geraghty Principal
