Sacrament of Baptism: The Sacrament of Baptism should be celebrated as soon as possible after birth. Therefore parents should contact the parish office prior to the child’s birth. This will allow adequate time for the necessary preparation of the parents and the Godparents.
Sacrament of Reconciliation: On Thursday’s from 6:15-7:00 PM at St Gerard or by appointment.
First Reconciliation and First Communion, Sacrament of Confirmation: Please contact the Coordinator of Religious Education (María Morales) for more information.
Sacrament of Marriage: Requires at least nine months of preparation before the Marriage. Contact the Pastor, through the parish office, to start the process.
Pastoral Care: Please contact the parish office if you are aware a parishioner sick and desires to receive the Eucharist, Anointing of the Sick or a visit from the Pastor.
Parish Registration forms are available through the office and under the bulletin boards in the commons.
Sacramento del Bautismo. El Sacramento del Bautismo debe ser celebrado después del nacimiento del niño, o tan pronto como sea posible. Los padres deben llamar a la oficina de la parroquia antes de la fecha del nacimiento para que los padres y padrinos reciban la preparación necesaria.

Advent a time for Reconciliation and Forgiveness
While we think of Advent as preparation for gifts, family
togetherness, and preparing home and church for a much
anticipated celebration of joy, it is really about reconciliation.
What we celebrate at Christmas is reconciliation, since through
the Incarnation of Jesus Christ—His passion, death and
resurrection— God’s mercy flowed into the world to mend the
breach of original sin, restoring the fellowship between God
and man. Each Christmas commemorates again this wondrous
gift of reconciliation, mercy and love.
Adviento un tiempo para la Reconciliación y el Perdón
Mientras pensamos del Adviento como una época para prepa-
rar los regalos, estar juntos en familia y preparar la casa y la
iglesia para la muy anticipada alegre celebración, realmente
es acerca de la reconciliación. Lo que celebramos en la Navi-
dad es la reconciliación, ya que a través de la Encarnación de
Jesucristo—Su pasión, muerte y resurrección—la misericordia
de Dios fluyó al mundo para reparar la brecha del pecado
original, restaurando la relación entre Dios y el hombre. Cada

St Gerard Liturgy Committee is accepting donations for the Christmas Flower fund. If you would like to remember a loved one, living or deceased, please send in the name of the person you would like to honor, whether they are living or deceased and the donation using the Christmas Flower envelope ( or use your own) and place the envelope in the collection basket. Names must be submitted no

St Andrew's Diocesan Cemetery Lot/Crypt
Beginning January 2018 ALL associated Cemetery costs will be
increasing in order to be competitive with other for-profit
cemeteries in the Roanoke area. Opening & Closing charges can
be paid now before this increase begins which will ensure that
your family will not incur additional costs, (other than the
memorials), upon your death. Furthermore, beginning January
2018, the Diocese of Richmond's management, Catholic Funeral
& Catholic Services will be offering a variety of pre-planning
cemetery packages with financing available at 0% interest for 2-3

POSADA
The word, posada, means an inn. To the humble Mexican
the re-enactment of the Holy Family's quest for lodgings is
a ritual of deep religious significance. This year the
Posadas, will begin on the December 15th and end on
December 23. It will be hosted at the church on December
17, & 19-23 and a different home on the other evenings

EVERYONE’S catechetical responsibility flows from the waters of baptism. At baptism, all Christians are commissioned to share in Jesus' ministry. This is an essential part of being Christian. To be baptized is to stand as one of Jesus' disciples, ready to do his work. Please act on this responsibility and become a catechist. For new catechists, training will be provided on February 3

Catechist’s Formation. There will be a
formation session for the new catechists on Thursday, December 21st at 5:30pm. There will be light refreshments.
ADVENT. Beginning the Church's liturgical year, Advent
(from, "ad-venire" in Latin or "to come to") is the season encompassing the four Sundays (and weekdays) leading up to the celebration of Christmas. The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lord’s birth on Christmas. The final days of Advent, from December 17 to December 24, focus particularly on our preparation for the celebrations of the Nativity of our Lord (Christmas). Advent devotions including the Advent wreath, remind us of
the meaning of the season.
Discovery, for those in grades 9-10; a peer-ministered retreat which encourages teenagers to discover their own identity and their relationship with

SACRAMENTO DE BAUTISMO Próxima charla pre bautismal: es ESTE sábado 16 de diciembre a las 3:00 PM por el lado de las oficinas. Por favor se anota en la lista que está en el área común si piensa asistir a la plática.
Próximas fechas de bautismo: Serán dentro de las misas del sábado/domingo 30/31 de diciembre y del 27-28 de enero
2018. Solo tres niños por misa.
Las familias interesadas deben: 1.) asistir a misa todos los domingos, 2.) Estar inscritas en la parroquia, 3.) Tener llena la forma de inscripción al bautismo. Los niños NO deben venir a la plática para evitar interrupciones.

session is on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 6:30PM in the large classroom at St. Gerard; enter by the office side. Candidates remember that in order to participate in the program you should be attending the Monday classes, unless you attend Catholic School. Remember to work on your saint!
