SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
From the Pastor’s Desk
Grace and Advent Blessings to my St. Elizabeth Ann Seton family! It’s funny, the things that stick in your mind. I’m thinking of one hot summer Saturday when I was in college and I was driving with a friend to the big flea market that used to be on Route 110 in Farmingdale (anyone remember that?). It was a long trip and on the way, the en-gine overheated and steam started pouring out from under the hood. We pulled off the road to give the engine a chance to cool off a little. While we sat there, we flipped on the radio and in-stantly an ad announced in a loud voice: “HELP IS ON THE WAY!” We laughed hysterically for a very long time. It was exactly what we would have wanted most: Assurance that someone was coming to save us, and everything was going to be all right! Today is the Second Sunday of Advent, and we focus on St. John the Baptist. In our first reading, the prophet Isaiah predicts the coming of the forerunner of the Messiah as a voice cries out in the desert, “Prepare the way of the Lord!” In the Gospel, St. Mark identifies this figure as St. John the Baptist. John was indeed chosen by God to be the herald of the coming Christ, His Son. John awoke people’s spirits with baptism of forgiveness and a revitalized faith in God. He announced, “One mightier than I is coming after me.” In other words, Fear Not! God is sending us a savior! HELP IS ON THE WAY! This Advent we prepare our hearts and souls for the coming of Christ into our world, and the gift of life and salvation that he brings. We need not sink into the mire of this generation, we need not drown in our sins; HELP IS ON THE WAY! Finally, I wish to thank you for your outpouring of prayers and consolation to my family and myself at the unexpected passing of my brother William last week. I feel certain that, even at 67, he was prepared to go to God, and I gratefully ask your continued prayers for all. Thank you!
Blessings and Peace,
Fr. Kevin Thompson

Parish Outreach Ministry Thanksgiving: Parish Outreach wishes to give to all of the faithful here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton a gracious and prayer-filled “Thank You”. Due to your kindness Outreach was able to help over 65 families enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving meal. The families helped also say “Thank You”. Outreach could never accomplish this task if it were not for the generous response given for the needed do-nated non-perishable food, frozen & fresh turkeys, gift-cards, money, as well as checks. Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped gather, sort, pack, and distribute the packages of food to all of the families. These include; Mary Koslowski, Rosemarie Mayers, Janet Knoblach, Diane Scheel, Marilyn & Phil Janusewski, Christine Bader, Linda & Justin Perrotta, Bob Lewonka, Eileen Cleary, Michele Sarrubbo, Tom Burns, Eleana Middleton, Joanne Peuplie, Marie Casilli, Marie Roach, Gerry & Joe Sadiveri, Liz Machio, Hank Grynewicz and Dennis Hoffer. A thank you to all of our Confirmation candidates, and a couple of moms, who helped sort all of the non-perishables. They include: Emma Polund, Anna Scully, John Healy, Susan Grant, Anabella Cenci, Briana Cenci, Joanne & Jackie Volo, Sam Middleton, Sabrine Middleton and Mylee D’Adddzrio. Such a find job of collecting food goes to the Girl Scouts Service Unit 18 and Cub Scout Pack 449.Thank you for your positive work in giving back to the community. Thank you to Gina Trepiccione, Guidance Counselor at Cayuga Elementary School for the donated turkeys and boxes of canned goods. Thank you to Amanda Kellys’ 4th Grade Faith Formation class for their collected food. To Gerry Hoffer, thank you, for all of the pies bought and delivered to Outreach. It is so important to remember that Jesus tells us that whenever you reach out to others in any way, you are in turn reaching out to Him. As a Parish Community, let us contin-ue to make Jesus know to others as we reach out in love and service to all of God’s people. Christmas: Please leave the returned Christmas ornaments in the box on the table in the lobby. The giving Tree has been removed from its place in the lobby. Please leave the gifts where the tree used to be.
Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
11th Annual Christmas Raffle !!
The PRIZE MONEY (which is to be split by 2 lucky winners)
is over $6,500 and rapidly growing daily.
With your continued support, we can make this the best Christmas raffle yet!
Raffles will be sold in the rear of the
Church after each Mass up until the day of drawing.
This is a major fund raiser for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.
Drawing will be held on Sunday, December 17th after the 12 Noon Mass.
You have to be in it to win it!!
We need your help to reach our goal. Let’s welcome our new bishop, The Most Reverend John Barres, and our new pastor Fr. Kevin, by making a pledge to this years
Catholic Ministries Appeal for a successful CMA campaign. The programs and services supported by the Appeal have a significant
impact on hundreds of thousands of parishioners throughout our Diocese **Supporting the Catholic Ministries Appeal gives each of us a remarkable opportunity to “show mercy to others” and touch the lives of so many who are in our family of faith and in our community—a neighbor in need of food or shelter, a young man or woman finding their way to God through our youth or campus ministry programs, or a deacon or seminarian studying to serve in our Diocese.
Thanks to the generosity of 194 of our parish families, we have received over 42,762 in pledges to this year’s Catholic Ministries Appeal. The bad news is that last year at this time we had received over 45,000 from 192 families. So we have a long way to go to reach that total. The good news is we have over 3,000 families in our parish and we still have 3 months left in this years campaign to make and complete new pledges. So we have the potential to not only reach our goal of $51,100 but we can surpass last year’s total of $51,256. In a world of so many troubles, it’s easy to feel like there is nothing we can do to make a difference. But we can help feed the hungry. We can see that our seniors are provided with services and shelter. We can provide guidance through troubled times. We can make sure that no one feels alone. If you have not already made a donation to this year’s appeal you can make a difference. Please support the ministries of our diocese & parish by making a pledge to the Catholic Ministries Appeal. Please participate!! We need everyone’s help!! To make a pledge, simply fill out the form below and place it in the collection basket or mail it back to the parish office. No down payment is necessary. The diocese will send monthly reminders. To help you decide here are some sug-gested gift plans:
$90 pledge = $30 per month $60 pledge = $20 per month
One time payment = any amount
Whatever you are able to give, large or small will be accepted gratefully. For more information or to make an online donation you go to the CMA website at www.CatholicMinistriesAppeal.org Thank you for your support & continued generosity.

RELIGIOUS RETIREMENT COLLECTION
This weekend, Dec. 9th/10th there will be a diocesan 2nd collection for Religious Retire-ment. Elderly Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests need your help. Many served for years in Catholic schools, hospi-tals, and parishes—often for little to no pay.
Now there is a shortage in retirement savings. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious
provides funding for medications, nursing care, and more. Please give to those who
have given a lifetime.

The Youth Group will be having a Bake Sale Fundraiser after all masses this weekend. They greatly appreciate the
support of the parishioners because this fundraiser will help offset their costs for
supplies during the year. Thank you for your support.
PLEASE CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING We are looking for young adults around the ages of 18 to 25 to join us at Youth Group as small group leaders. Youth group meets every other Friday from 7pm to 9pm from Octo-ber to early June. This is our 5th year and we have about 40 steady members. Many of the successful YG's devote the first 15 minutes of the meeting to small groups. It consists of one young adult leader and about 4 or 5 members. The idea behind this is that this group becomes a comfortable place for our young members to share experiences with the others in the group and form a bond where they feel safe to discuss issues they may not feel comfortable sharing with a larger group. Since our YG consists of grades 6 through 12, with some college students also involved, we would like the small groups to be all the same grade. This way the children start the meeting with their own age group and then we all interact together. We have been extremely fortunate to have our col-lege age kids as great role models for our younger ones, and it is amazing to me to see such a wide range of ages all par-ticipating in games and events together! If you are interested please contact Joy Milillo at [email protected] or (home) 631-585-0938 or (cell) 631-664-4915
Join Us With Mary When life got overwhelming and too big for us as children, we turned to our mother for support and guidance. As adults, we thank her for all she had done for us. Now we are blessed with the opportunity to turn to our Heavenly Mother Mary to ask for her support and guidance, and thank her for the many bless-ings she has given us. Every Wednesday after 9:00 AM mass (at 9:30), you are invited to join us as we pray the rosary to ask for her help and guidance and to thank her for her abounding love.
Prayer Blanket Ministry Meetings are held on Saturdays from
9:30am to 12:30pm. Contact Janice by email: [email protected]
Next meeting is Saturday, December 16th,
2017 New members are always welcome. Come join this exciting ministry—we create prayer blankets,
lap robes, baby blankets, preemie hats, Christmas stockings, “pink scarves”, etc. and donate them to
various organizations, nursing homes, etc. We also share ideas, patterns and offer instruction for any-
one wishing to learn to knit or crochet or brush up on their skills. For more information call the Parish Out-reach. If you have yarn to donate, we will gladly ac-
cept it and use it. Thank you!
