Staying Safe• When doing certain activities, it is

important to keep our bodies safe from injury.

Riding in a Car• Everyone needs to wear a seat belt.

• A seatbelt will help protect you if you are in an accident.

• It is also against the law to not wear your seatbelt.

• All doors should stay locked while the car is moving.

• Children should be in a car seat or booster seat if they are not big enough to ride without one.

• Up to 4 years old – car seat

• 4-8 years old – booster seat

• The safest place for a child is in the backseat.

Riding a Bicycle

• Always wear the right equipment.

• Helmet

• Elbow pads/knee pads

• Use a bicycle that is the right size for you.

• Don’t wear loose clothing and make sure your shoelaces are tied.

• Have an adult check the tires and the brakes before you ride.

• Wear bright clothes so people can see you clearly.

Riding a Bicycle

• Stay alert.

• Don’t ride your bike at night.

• Keep reflectors on your bike so it’s easy to see.

• Follow the rules of the road.

Rules of the Road

• Always ride on the right side of the road (in the same direction as traffic).

• Obey traffic laws, like signs and traffic lights.

• Ride predictably – in a straight line, not curvy.

• Look for things on the road that could cause you to fall off like trash, toys, or stones.
