In Our Parish...

STRENGTHENED BY THE BREAD OF LIFE   Today we resume the “Bread of Life” discourse from John’s Gospel that began two weeks ago. He makes reference to the Jews’ ancestors who ate manna in the desert. These days we would think pri-marily of Israel wandering in the desert, but faithful Jews would also have known the story of Elijah that we hear today. Strengthened by food and drink in the desert, the angel of the Lord sends him on his forty-day and forty-night journey (the biblical num-ber for a prepara on  me). Like the food given to Elijah in the desert, Jesus tells his listeners that he is bread for the life of the world. It is very important that we not stop listening to Jesus a er his promise of eternal life—a marvelous promise, but this “reward” is not the only reason we feast on the Bread of Life. We also come to the table to be made strong for the journey of mission, that the whole world might have life in the fullness of Christ. We are compelled, if we have eaten of the bread of life, to go forth in service to all.  Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Dear Wonderful Parishioners: I would like to thank you for all your prayers as our High School Youth Group embarked on our Steuben-ville – Orlando Retreat and Conference. We arrived safely on Thursday, July 26th and returned to Church carefully in a down pour of rain on Sunday around 6:20 p.m. From the bottom of our hearts thank you. The Holy Spirit surrounded us the whole weekend, while Mother Mary interceded to Our Lord to deepen our Faith. It was evident that the 21 teens of Sacred Heart who attended the retreat truly felt Jesus’ presence the whole weekend, but especially during Ad-oration of The Blessed Sacrament each night. We at-tended Mass Friday, Saturday and Sunday which was such a blessing. There were approximately 2000 high school teens from around the country in attendance. I would also like to thank the following Parishioners who were especially generous to donate money so that we could attend this retreat: David and June Matamo-ros, Cynthia and Francis Held, Denise and Dennis Smallwood, Dennis and Anne Witt, James and Linda Behr, Jack and Clare Sears, Douglas and Janet Wilson, Michael and Velinda Roe, Joyce DiMonda, Mary Foster, Jane Johnson, Marilyn Wojciechowski, Amanda Streeter, Douglas and Mauricia Buchanan, Karen Elgin, Anne and Brent Kugler and the Sacred Heart Council of Catholic Women. May God Bless you all abundantly, Janice Schubert Youth Director
