As the summer heat sets in, and with temperatures consistently

exceeding 100 degrees, the golf course is under a high degree of

stress. During these hot times when the turf is unusually stressed and susceptible to disease, it is exceedingly important to

minimize unnecessary wear on the golf course.

As the heat continues, it is extremely important to follow all cart

rules and to follow all signage on the golf course.

-Keep carts 30 yards from tees and greens

-Use 90 degree rule at all times

-Fix all ball marks

-Replace or sand all divots

I would like to give a big Thank You to all of the ladies that joined us

for the "Ida Mae Powell" Classic golf tournament. The golf course

was absolutely beautiful! We had 88 players this year.

Congratulations go to the winners! Our local girls that won in their

flight were Patty Stokes, Nada Huey, Pat Logan and Maureen Morris.

Sylvia Schkade's team also won in their flight, her teammates were

Marlene Kasch, Joan Bohannon and Terri Thomas. Way to go ladies!

We have such wonderful things going on at our club. Please take a

moment to thank Curtis, Daniel, Jason, Will, Jim, Traci, Harold or

any of the fine people that are working for "us" for doing such a

wonderful job!!!

Our next tournament is the ever popular Couples

Tournament. Get a partner and join the FUN!!!

It is Sept. 12th and 13th. There will be a

shoot out on Friday evening (the 11th) for

those who want to join us for that event. The

shoot out starts at 5:30-6:00pm, Saturday 1:30

afternoon shotgun and Sunday morning 9:00am

shotgun. Scramble format. There will be burgers

and beer Friday night for those who participate

in the shoot out, Saturday there will be beer,

soft drinks and tamales on the course, a

Saturday evening come as you are dinner, Sunday

morning full breakfast, and an awards luncheon

following play on Sunday.

You don't want to miss this one!

San Angelo Country Club is proud to introduce our new General Manager, Mr. George Rees. Mr. Rees is an Ohio native with an extensive background in the

private club industry. He is a passionate, hands-on leader with a successful record

of elevating member satisfaction, operational performance, and service excellence. We are excited to have him on board and look forward to a successful future with

Mr. Rees at the helm.

An excerpt from his bio…

…George Rees is an accomplished hospitality professional with more than twenty

years’ experience in private country clubs. Beginning at an early age, Mr. Rees climbed the ladder from a dish washer and caddy to management through hard

work and his love for the industry. He studied hospitality management at West

Virginia State College and Florida International University, later beginning a career path under the management of his father at Greenbrier Hotel and Resort. He has a

successful record for excellence in member service, membership satisfaction, team

development, golf and course management and food and beverage. He enjoys being a visible facet of the club, engaging the staff, members and community.

His many accomplishments include being featured in Golf Digest Magazine and Club Managers Magazine for excellence in membership, food and beverage, and

team development. He was also awarded “Business Person of the Year” by the

West Chester Chamber of Commerce, Ambassador of Youth from the state of West Virginia, and a three-time finalist for the Excellence in Club Management award

for outstanding member and team excellence by Club Managers.

George’s presence will be felt not only at the Club, but in community projects and

efforts including Habitat for Humanity, United Way and local food banks.

Please join the San Angelo Country Club family in welcoming George and Rose

PGA Junior League

The San Angelo Country Club PGA Junior

League team completed their second match of

the season against Gaines County on Wednesday July 22. With 9 kids competing in 4 separate

matches, it was a great experience for all of the

junior golfers.

With 2 remaining matches against Bentwood and

the season winding down, we will try to

continue the program throughout the fall.

This is a very exciting time at the Club. We are incorporating many events, including couples nights, family dinners, game nights, and so much more. In an effort to reach out to our members, we will be utilizing Facebook more than ever. Starting August 1st, we will be holding a contest to see which current member can get the highest number of their friends to ‘Like’ our page. If you are the winner, dinner is on us! The contest will end on September 1st. Let’s see how many ‘likes’ we can get!!

Pool Open Until November 1st! Yes, you read that right. The San Angelo Country Club Pool will

remain open until November 1st with the following changes:

1. The pool will convert to a hotel style pool where there will be no

life guards

2. Pool opens at 11:00 am and closes at 7:00 pm Tuesday through

Sunday

3. Children under 16 must have an adult present

4. Food & Beverage will be open during those hours

5. Diving board will be removed
