Welcome to St. Matthias
Fr. Tony Davis, PastorSr. Marie Shields SNDdeN, Pastoral Associate
The Baptism of the Lord ____ January 13, 2019
St. Matthias Church, 1582 Ferris Road, Columbus OH 43224 1
Parish Office PASTORAL POST
Written by Fr. Tony
Our next book study will be Liturgy of the Ordinary by Tish Harrison Warren. It
will begin on Thursday, January 31, at 7:00 PM in the Church. Please consider
reading the book and attending any or all of the sessions.
The purpose of Warren’s book, which is subtitled ‘sacred practices in everyday
life,’ is to help Christians see ordinary life as something sacred and important
to God. In the foreword, Andy Crouch summarizes the book’s intention by
saying, “Tish dismantles that most stubborn of Christian heresies: the idea that
there is any part of our lives that is secular, untouched by and disconnected
from the real sacred work of worship and prayer.” For Tish, the Liturgy of the
Ordinary includes basic things like making the bed, losing the keys, checking
our email, and drinking tea. Again, God is deeply involved in all of it.
Below is the discussion schedule:
January 31: 1) WAKING, 2) MAKING THE BED, 3) BRUSHING TEETH
February 7: 4) LOSING KEYS, 5) EATING LEFTOVERS
February 14: 6) FIGHTING WITH MY HUSBAND, 7) CHECKING EMAIL
February 21: 8) SITTING IN TRAFFIC, 9) CALLING A FRIEND
February 28: 10) DRINKING TEA, 11) SLEEPING
Each session will last 1 hour from 7:00-8:00 PM in the Church. Books (with a
bookmark with the discussion schedule) are available in the Parish Office or at
the Welcome Table for $10 each.

SACRED PRACTICES IN EVERYDAY LIFE
STEWARDSHIP MEDITATION
“John answered them all, ‘I baptize you with water; but He who is mightier
than I is coming…He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.’” (Luke 3:16)
The Catholic Catechism states that “Jesus’ immersion in the water is a sign for
all human beings of the need to die to themselves to do God’s will.” In other
words, as baptized Catholics there is only one gift that we need to give to Jesus
– the gift of ourselves. Surrender yourself to God, place your trust in Him and
allow the Holy Spirit to work through you for the greater glory of God.
