Congratulations to Allegra Hachey, Keithlaire (Keith) Jonassaint, Keithlander Jonassaint, Aidan Lynch, Brendan Smith, and Steven Smith for having received the Sacraments of Ini-tiation at the Easter Vigil! These faith-centered people have been the recipients of prayers and support from the people of St. Luke’s and in turn bring growth to our vibrant faith community. They have all been faithfully following a path of
spiritual development since the early fall.
Keith (17), Keithlander (13), and Aidan (8) have been brought into the Christian community through the Sacrament of Baptism. What a joy it is to have these three young people join us. Keith and Keithlander also received the Sacraments of Eucharist (i.e., first communion) and
Confirmation at the Easter Vigil and have become full members of our Christian community via the Catholic faith tradition. Aidan will receive first communion with his peers in May. Keith faithfully attended the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) with our other adult candidates. Keithlander and Aidan attended the RCIA catechumenate faith program focused on youth and children under the auspices of Gloria Joseph and Dianne Patrick, respectively.
Both Brendan Smith and Steven Smith (not related) were baptized but never had re-ceived communion or been confirmed. They have now been brought fully into the Church through the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Allegra had been
baptized and received first communion at an earlier age. She, too, has become a full member of the Church and disciple of Christ through the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. Like Keith, Brendan, Steven, and Allegra attended the RCIA sessions faithfully and shared insights gleaned from their experienc-es each week. The sharing of their rich experiences and insights enriched the
entire RCIA community (including sponsors and the RCIA team). Allegra, Keith, Keithlander, Ai-dan, Brendan, and Steven are now full members of our faith commu-nity. They strengthen and enrich Christ’s Church with their experi-ences, insights, and energized faith. The RCIA team witnesses something special with the people who go through the RCIA process every year, and it seems like every group of candidates attains one or more distinguishing characteristics during
the course of the year. This year’s group is characterized by particularly wide age disparity and yet has bonded together especially quickly and deeply – a testimony to the Holy Spirit at work. These people, full of faith and love, bring special gifts of grace to our parish community and the entire Catholic Church. Please give them a hearty welcome!

My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, “The joy of the Gospel fills the hearts of all who encounter Christ." Pope Fran-cis’ words were never more apt than on Easter when the women in the garden, the disciples on the road to Emmaus and the Apostles in the upper room encoun-tered the Risen Christ. With that encounter, the grief, dismay and shock of Good Friday gave way to the joy of Easter. Filled with that joy, the women ran from the garden to tell the Apostles, the disciples returned to Jerusalem to spread
the good news, and the Apostles, after being emboldened by the Holy Spirit, went out to the whole world to preach the Gospel.
At the beginning of Lent, Pope Francis warned us that indifference to God and to neighbor is a real danger in the modern world. The Holy Father urged us to use Lent as a time of interior renewal to reject indifference toward others and to shun a dangerous withdrawal into ourselves. Love, he wrote, conquers indifference.
The events of Holy Week and Easter commemorate history’s greatest act of love and our unfailing reason for hope. The death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ show us that good triumphs over evil, that redemption over-comes sin and that life and love outlast the shadow of earthly death. Celebrating these events in our liturgies, meditating upon them in our devotions and reflecting upon them in our prayer, we too encounter the Risen Christ and our reason for joy. God’s infinite love and mercy for us cannot leave us indifferent. Rather, the event of the Resurrection should compel us, like those who encounter the Risen Christ on Easter Sunday, to bring the joy of Easter and the good news of God’s love to those around us.
May God’s blessings be with you, your loved ones and all you encounter this Easter Season.
With every prayerful wish, I remain
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Robert J. McManus, Bishop of Worcester

Community Support for RCIACommunity Support for RCIACommunity Support for RCIACommunity Support for RCIA
The success of the RCIA program rests upon the support and prayers of many, including the St. Luke’s com-munity. Our prayers and support for the RCIA catechumens and candidates represent an outward sign of our responsiveness to God’s love for us. Special recognition is due for all of the sponsors who have been faithfully walking alongside our candidates and catechumens in their spiritual journey. These include Evangeline Hachey (for Allegra), Rigaud Durandisse (for Keith), Gary Guerrier (for Keithlander), Peter Holmes (for Ai-dan), Mary Smith (for Brendan), and Margaret Smith (for Steven). These sponsors all have a special connec-tion to their candidates/catechumens. And this year we have also had two additional faith companions who have faithfully attended our sessions and deserve special recognition: Yves-Rose (Eve) Jonassaint, Keith’s and Keithlander’s mother, and Frank Lynch, Aidan’s father. Finally, the RCIA Team members (which include Kathy Burbank, Josh Dion, Melissa Dion, Stan Kaiser, and Dale Spencer) form the rock foundation of the RCIA ministry. These folks contribute week after week in meeting, planning, and other support activities. Similarly, Dianne Patrick and Gloria Joseph have been lovingly leading the faith development for Aidan and Keithlander week after week since the fall. The RCIA Team, Dianne, and Gloria are in turn blessed with the enthusiastic support of our pastor, Msgr. Michael Foley, and our Associate Pastor, Father James Boland. A special word is in order for Father Jim, who has been an extraordinary resource to the entire RCIA group. In what may be unprecedented in the history of St. Luke, Father Jim found the time (out of an extremely busy priest’s schedule) to participate in nearly every RCIA session since the early fall! Others who have contributed to the RCIA process this year and who we are so grateful for include Pat Horrigan, Julie Basque, Patty Mon-geau, the Farmers (Dave, Chris, and Katie), Nancy Papp, Mary Sanning, Michelle Renaud, Maria and Bob Gasser, Pat Gagnon, and Don and Phyllis Morcone (who continue to be our so gracious Mystagogy hosts year after year). You get the picture – this is really a community effort! The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults or RCIA constitutes a path for one to learn more about the Catholic faith, and if so called by God, to prepare for the Sacraments of Initiation into Christ’s pilgrim church. Alt-hough we typically begin our weekly gatherings in the early fall, we are prepared to begin the inquiry process year round and welcome inquirers to contact us anytime. For more information on RCIA, please call the rec-tory at 508-366-5502 or Bob Thompson at 508-341-7677. We can’t wait to meet and welcome future inquir-ers!

ANNUAL PARTNERS IN CHARITY APPEAL OUR FAITH IN ACTION
Once each year we appeal to all parishioners to join us in support of the many agencies of the Diocese of Worcester that support the charitable, educational and ministry pro-grams of the diocese. There are 28 programs and agencies in central Massachusetts that benefit from your generosi-ty. One of these programs is McAuley Nazareth Home for Boys. It can be difficult for some boys growing up in today’s world. McAuley Nazareth Home is a safe haven for them. It is the only such home in Central Massachu-setts, according to Kim Pare, executive director. The typi-cal stay is from 8 months to 2 ½ years. The boys have behavioral problems and here they learn coping skills will going to school and participating in the life of the home. We rely on your participation in this Annual Appeal. Our goal this year is $130,000. Please prayerfully consider making a pledged gift to this year’s appeal. A gift in any amount will be received with gratitude. For your conven-ience, envelopes are available in the vestibule of the church. Please return them to the parish office or drop your pledge in the collection basket as soon as you are able.
