Rules & Regulation of Competition Date : 17th August to 20th August 2017 Venue: DPAC (the Damansara Performing Arts Centre)
1. ORGANISING COMMITTEE
The committee of the “TARREGA (Malaysia) International Guitar Festival 2017” organises competition, master classes, concerts, seminar and workshop for the guitar festival. The competition is open to solo and ensemble guitarists of all nationalities.
2. REGISTRATION
Application forms can be downloaded from www.tarregafestival.com and facebook page (TARREGA Malaysia International Guitar Festival), email to [email protected]
The following documents should be enclosed: 1. Complete program of the music chosen to be performed. A copy of any unpublished scores must be
included. No corrections and supplements will be accepted after June 15th, 2017. 2. Receipt or evidence of payment of the registration fee. 3. Copy of an official identification document. 4. Email one recent high resolution photograph for programme booklet and slide, un-copyrighted. 5. All documents, including the signed application form, must be sent by electronic mail to
[email protected] not later than June 15th, 2017.
3. REGISTRATION FEE & FESTIVAL PACKAGE
3.1 A net registration fee must be paid before the dates, by bank transfer, Paypal, cash or cheque 3.2 Detail of Registration Fee

Festival Package is compulsory for international contestants.
Including all concerts, observer (master classes, seminars, competition), FREE ONE master class for FIRST 10 who registered.

4. CATEGORIES
4.1 The competition consist of Four (4) Categories:
a) Open Classical Guitar Solo - no age limit - Pieces played in the competition by free choice of repertoires and not more than 15 minutes for preliminary round , not
more then 20 minutes for final round; repertoires for preliminary round and final round CAN NOT be repeated. - The rounds of competition are depending on the number of participants and subject to change. - A “ TARREGA Challenge Trophy” will be awarded to the Champion who won three years in a row
b) Junior Classical Guitar Solo - age below 18 years old (according to the date of birth) - Pieces played in the competition by free choice of repertoires and not more than 15 minutes.
c) Children Classical Guitar Solo - age below 12 years old (according to the date of birth) - Pieces played in the competition by free choice of repertoires and not more than 10 minutes.
d) Semi-pop Acoustic Guitar Solo - no age limit - Each contestant will perform in a seated position into a condenser microphone as provided by the organiser. - Only solo guitar pieces, no vocals will be allowed. - The used of Capo is allowed. - Pieces played in the competition by free choice of repertoires and not more than 12 minutes.
e) Guitar ensemble - open to all ages with minimum 2 to maximum 30 members (including conductor and percussionists) - Pieces played in the competition by free choice of repertoires and not more than 15 minutes. - A guitarist can participate more than one group - All required percussions are to be prepared by the contestants. - All definite pitch percussions are not allowed - A “TARREGA Challenge Trophy” will be awarded to the Champion who won three years in a row
4.2 All solo pieces have to be played entirely from memory.
4.3 Only acoustic NYLON STRING guitars are allowed for all classical categories, acoustic NYLON or STEEL STRING guitars are allowed for Semi-pop Guitar Solo category and the ensemble category
5. COMPETITION PROCEDURE
5.1 The competition will be held from 17th August - 20 August 2017 at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC) at H-01, Empire Damansara, Jalan PJU 8/8, Damansara Perdana, 47820 Petaling Jaya, 47820 Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
5.2 The International contestants must register on August 16th, within 1:00pm to 7:00pm. For Malaysian contestants can be register on the same day of competition at DPAC. To register, contestants must present a valid identification document.
5.3 The organiser will determined the performance order by random drawing.
5.4 The competition rounds are open to the public. Once a performance has started, there will be no access to the hall.
6. THE JURY
6.1 The international Jury will be composed by at least five (5) members from various countries and of established reputation in the music industry.
6.2 The Organising Committee may, at any time, call for new members to take part in the Jury or substitute existing members.
6.3 Competitors may be interrupted at any time during their performance, if the Jury considers it suitable.
6.4 Members of the Jury who are currently teaching any of the contestants, must refrain from discussions and abstain from voting for their own student. The abstention shall be clearly recorded in the minutes. In compliance with this, during the first meeting, each member of the Jury must sign a statement as to his/her personal situation towards the competitors with reference to the above.
6.5 All marks and comments given by the jury will be return to the contestants after the competition.
7. AWARDING OF PRIZES
7.1 The first prize cannot be shared. In special cases, the Jury may award the remaining prizes equally. The Jury reserves the right not to award the first prize, in case the performances fail to reach the necessary artistic level.
7.2 All competitors must accept, without appeal, the decisions of the Jury, regarding the awarding of prizes.
8. COPYRIGHT
All stages of the competition will be recorded. Participants agree to waive any recording and/or photo rights in or on any media, during any aspect of the competition and consent to the unlimited and unrestricted use of their name and image in any format or media for use by the festival committee.
9. LEGAL AGREEMENT
By signing the application form, the contestant agrees to all rules and regulations as presented above. In case of any disagreement or differences of interpretation, the english text will be held as legally valid.
10. PRIZES
10.1 Open Classical Guitar Solo Competition - Champion: Handmade Guitar, Guitar Hardcase, Guitar Strings, Trophy, Diploma, Tour Concerts in Malaysia, Shen
Zheng and Indonesia. Scholarship to participate and attend master class of Claxica Festival 2018 at Italy, including air fare allowance of Euro 500.
- 1st Runner Up: Handmade Guitar, Guitar Hardcase, Guitar strings, Trophy, Diploma - 2nd Runner Up: Guitar strings, Trophy, Diploma - The Diploma will be awarded to the contestants who qualified with the required ranking, Gold Diploma (85 marks or
above) Silver Diploma (70-84.99 marks) Bronze Diploma (55-69.99 marks); the top 3 Gold Diploma winners will be awarded Champion, 1st Runner up and 2nd Runner up.
10.2 Junior Classical Guitar Solo Competition - Champion: Handmade Classical Guitar, Guitar Hardcase, Guitar strings, Trophy, Diploma - 1st Runner Up: Handmade Classical Guitar, Guitar Hardcase, Guitar strings, Trophy, Diploma - 2nd Runner Up: Gutiar strings, Trophy, Diploma - The Diploma will be awarded to the contestants who qualified with the required ranking, Gold Diploma (85 marks or
above) Silver Diploma (70-84.99 marks) Bronze Diploma (55-69.99 marks); the top 3 Gold Diploma winners will be awarded Champion, 1st Runner up and 2nd Runner up.
10.3 Semi-pop Category - Champion : Acoustic Guitar with Pickup, hardcase, Guitar Strings, Trophy, Diploma and concert (Malaysia). - 1st Runner Up : Hardcase, Guitar Strings, Trophy and Diploma - 2nd Runner Up : Guitar Strings, Trophy and Diploma - The Diploma will be awarded to the contestants who qualified with the required ranking, Gold Diploma (85 marks or
above) Silver Diploma (70-84.99 marks) Bronze Diploma (55-69.99 marks); the top 3 Gold Diploma winners will be awarded Champion, 1st Runner up and 2nd Runner up.
10.4 Ensemble Competition - 1st prize: Cash Prize, Conductor Stand, Rosewood Baton, Guitar strings, Trophy, Diploma, Concert in Malaysia (with
terms & condition) - 2nd prize: Cash Prize, Conductor Stand, Rosewood Baton, Guitar strings, Trophy, Diploma - 3rd prize: Cash Prize , Guitar strings, Trophy, Diploma - The Diploma will be awarded to the contestants who qualified with the required ranking, Gold Diploma (85 marks or
above) Silver Diploma (70-84.99 marks) Bronze Diploma (55-69.99 marks); the top 3 Gold Diploma winners will be awarded Champion, 1st Runner up and 2nd Runner up.
10.5 A “ TARREGA Challenge Trophy” and cash prize will be awarded to Champion winner of Open Classical Guitar Solo category and ensemble category who won THREE YEARS IN A ROW.
10.6 The awards will be forfeited to the winners who absent in the award ceremony.
11. All international contestants are required to participate with the entire festival package.
12. Certificate of participation will be given to all contestant.
13. Former dress code are required for all activities during the festival.
14. The organizer reserve the right for any changes.
