NOTEWORTHY NEWS AND NOTICES

REPLACEMENT OF YOUR AIR CONDITIONER It's that time of year to make sure your air conditioner is ready for the Arizona summer! Some of you may find there is a need to replace your unit. WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW: The Architectural Compliance Committee requires a permit to do this! It is even possible that Maricopa County requires a permit as well!

NEW INSTALLATIONS - example: guest house, room addition. A Maricopa County Permit AND an Architectural Compliance Permit are required.

SIZE OF UNIT - we want to make sure we have documentation that unit replacement (roof mounted or ground unit) is of the same tonnage.

CHANGE IN LOCATION - any change in equipment specs or location must be provided with the Architectural Compliance Permit Application.

Through the wall and/or window air conditioner units or evaporative coolers are not permitted. If the air conditioning fails, this could result in heat levels in your home to reach well into the 90's or 100's. Our body temperatures quickly rise and the vulnerable community-based elders could develop heat exhaustion.

The Architectural Compliance Committee expect homeowners who are replacing their air conditioners to follow a simple procedure by applying for a permit which can be approved immediately providing there is no change in size or tonnage. We also have a provision in our Architectural Guidelines "Construction Special Permit Processing" for any emergency issues. Permits covering emergency conditions such as air conditioning failure, roof leaks, etc. will be handled as they occur by the Administrative Assistant. If such an emergency occurs when we are not available, the homeowner can make arrangements to do whatever installation or repair is needed and contact us in a reasonable amount of time. Permits can be issued after the installation or repair.

FITNESS ACTIVITY CENTER Monday-Friday 6:00am-7:00pm; Saturday-Sunday 6:00am-6:00pm

FITNESS FACT We are continuing our discussion of SuperSet training, by describing a second method. The last article described the performance of SuperSets that paired exercises that utilize the same joint movements and muscle groups. Method 2 changes that a bit! SuperSet Method #2 Combine 2 exercises that focus on completely different joint movements and muscle groups:

Pair a pushing exercise with a pulling exercise – depending on what your exercise routine goal may be, perform both exercises in a stable environment or both in an unstable environment. Examples:

Chest Press with a Rowing exercise

Elbows lifted up away from the ribs for both or elbows kept low, by the ribs for both

Arm Curl (elbow bends) with an Arm Extension (elbow straightens)

The position of the shoulder joint during each exercise will impact what muscles are involved and the degree to which they are involved.

Pair an upper body exercise with a lower body exercise – this case, you will not be ‘working’ opposing muscle groups like the previous example. You will simply be ‘working’ muscle groups located in a completely different area of the body. Again, depending on what your exercise routine goal may be, perform both exercises in a stable environment or both in an unstable environment. A few examples include (these exercise pairings provide a smooth and easy transition from the first exercise to the second – this is not a requirement):

Dumbbell Chest Press (lying on a bench) with Dumbbell Squat (stand up from the bench for the first repetition of the Squat)

Bent Over Dumbbell Row with Dumbbell Lunge

Dumbbell Arm Curl with Standing Heel (Calf) Raise

Seated Dumbbell Curl (incline or neutral) with Seated Dumbbell Heel (Calf) Raise

Note: A Seated Heel Raise emphasizes the Soleus muscle in the calf (backside of lower leg-knee to heel),

whereas a Standing Heel Raise emphasizes the Gastrocnemius muscle in the calf (backside of lower leg). SuperSets are a great method to train the body. SuperSets are definitely calorie burners and are recommended when the goal is weight loss and/or weight control. Please contact Tim at the FAC, if you have any questions about this method of resistance training.
