The open approach provided with Rockwell Automation’s IntegratedArchitecture offers an immediatereturn:

• reduced integration costs

• reduced development time with increased productivity

• lower total cost of ownership

– less training

– fewer spare parts

– more efficient maintenance

• information enabled architecture

– seamless communications fromshop floor to top floor

– RSBizWare

– asset management

Rockwell Automation’s Integrated Architecture helpsyou to surpass these challenges with its superior control, communication and visualization competen-cies. Until now, control systems used for process, discrete, drive or motion control were unique to theapplication. If you combined more than one of thesetypes, you simply patched over the differencesbetween the two systems with communication gateways and/or expensive custom software. Theresulting ‘system’ required multiple sets of controls,I/O and programming packages, and multiple teams of process engineers, control engineers, maintenancepersonnel and/or information technology specialists.

The Integrated Architecture allows you to replacethose isolated cells of activity with a single coordinated system. The result? Better informationflow that removes complex and time-consuming

filters, providing real-time data for effective decision-making

across the enterprise.

Allen-Bradley Logix platforms offer a range of hard-ware and platforms that enable you to choose themost cost-efficient controller for your application. You can create reusable programs for use by anyLogix platform across a broad range of applications.Program Logix controllers using a single programmingsoftware and instruction set. And exchange informa-tion using a common communication architecture.

Merging Control Technology for Higher Return on Assets As Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs),Logix controllers provide a single architecture for discrete, process, motion and drive applications thatcombines the technology advantages of PCs with thesecurity and reliability of PLCs. By allowing the use of commercial off-the-shelf chip technology inside a traditional PLC while incorporating new ‘PC-like’functionality, Logix controllers offer manufacturers

Take control with Logix. No matter who you are, each day you face new challenges.Machine builders need to deliver their competitive advantage.

Speed up development and reduce costs and time to market. Improve

customer support with lower costs. Manufacturers need to drive

higher returns on assets. Improve agility and availability. Connect to

e-business. Reduce spare parts inventories. Spend less time on

training and lower maintenance costs. All while trying to satisfy top

floor demands. Like reducing time to market. Producing product

with zero defects. Or creating more flexible production lines.

The Logix platform is capable of handling the controlneeds of any application from simple PLC-basedsequence control to complex distributed control of aplant-wide batch system to integrated motion controlfound on a packaging machine. And, because it is a sin-gle integrated control platform, it makes it much easierto share information with other departments in a manu-facturing plant.

the best of both worlds and can easily meet growinginformation management, supply chain integrationand regulatory compliance demands.

Combining multiple control disciplines into a commonenvironment and hardware platform that eliminatescostly integration engineering and multivendor hard-ware leads to a continually higher return on assets –lower initial integration costs, hardware outlays, com-missioning and maintenance requirements.

Logix platforms allow you to return, project after proj-ect, to a completely integrated plantwide control sys-tem. Each time, you’ll have the freedom to choose thecontrol platform best-suited for your application.

You’ll select from the high-performance, multidisci-pline ControlLogix and SoftLogix, to the flexiblemounting, low-cost wiring FlexLogix platform, and thesmall, value-based CompactLogix platform.

Enhanced productivity. Consistency. Flexibility. Allleading to a lower total cost of ownership from aworld leader in automation solutions. Able to offer abroad range of automation products together withconsultation and support throughout every phase ofyour project with global backup services, asset man-agement, and a worldwide distribution network.

With Logix, you’ve got everything under control.

Plant floor data should fit therequirements of the application, not the controller. With Logixplatforms, memory managementbecomes a thing of the past andaccess of plant floor databecomes transparent from shop floor to top floor.

With Logix platforms:

• System costs are lowered and inte-gration simplified through the use ofa common control model, whateverthe platform or network selected

• Configuration and programming areconsistent so that the initial programdevelopment as well as long-termsystem maintenance can be accom-plished with less time and effort

• Plant floor data becomes moreaccessible by other parts of theenterprise and is more intuitivebecause of the way data is storedand communicated

• Communication becomes a matter of“plug and play” so that you only needto be concerned with what, and nothow, you want to communicate

The NetLinx Open Network Architecture is future-proof

• NetLinx enables you to control, configure and collect information from any point in your system

• The common industrial protocol, CIP,and services are used on EthernetTCP/IP and CAN, both commerciallyavailable technologies. CIP canreadily be applied to the next commercially accepted network and integrated into existing plantsystems

• ControlNet managed by ControlNetInternational (CI), DeviceNet managed by the Open DeviceNetVendors Association (ODVA) andEtherNet/IP managed by both CI andODVA are supported by more than500 vendor companies. You canchoose among vendors and products that have been tested for conformance

• View your system and devices fromany place at any time. Take control of your operations

NetLinx Open Network Architecture

A versatile control architecture like Logix should besupported by an equally versatile communicationarchitecture. It is. We call it NetLinx and it providescommon protocol, services and features to theEtherNet/IP, ControlNet and DeviceNet networks. As aresult, information can be communicated seamlesslythroughout the plant, from shop floor to top floor, andto and from the Internet for e-business applications.

The NetLinx Open Network Architecture, createdspecifically for industrial automation, provides theability to control, configure and collect data across aplant, thereby simplifying your plant communications. Both time-critical communications, such as I/O andinterlocking, and messages are supported withoutimpacting performance of the network. SinceEtherNet/IP, ControlNet and DeviceNet use the sameprotocol and architecture, all devices can communi-cate on a network or even across networks withouttranslation or special programming.

The NetLinx Open Network Architecture enables youto choose the type of network, media and topologythe application requires, and mix and match NetLinx-based networks without adding complexity or sacrificing performance. You can control and configure devices and collect data anytime or anyplace in the system. The result is a single systemdesigned specifically for your needs.

Information Where and When It’s NeededWorking with NetLinx, FactoryTalk™ provides a collaborative framework that allows everyone in supply chain to share and use real-time information, and communicate effectively.

FactoryTalk supports common services built intoFactoryTalk-enabled software products from RockwellSoftware and third-party vendors. FactoryTalk-enabledproducts use FactoryTalk Directory to share a commonaddress book, which automatically finds and providesaccess to factory resources such as data tags andHMI displays. Unlike a single database, FactoryTalkDirectory provides searchable references to resourcesstored anywhere across a distributed system, offeringthe benefits of central data storage without the risk ofa single point of failure.

Using this enabling technology, companies can buildcomplex distributed systems in any location and later deploy the systems elsewhere by simply modifying computer names. Resources associatedwith the system are then available to every participating FactoryTalk-enabled product across the entire automation system, and any changesupdate immediately.

Reduce Application Development Time and Maximize Reuse of Programming CodeRSLogix 5000 software is tag-based, and is highlyindependent of the system hardware.

Symbolic, application-specific names like ‘fill_temper-ature’ make it easy for you to learn new applications.Since these names are stored within the controller, data is accessible by tag name for faster trouble-shooting, even at remote facilities where source code may not be available.

FactoryTalk services in RSLogix 5000 allow tag namesto be browsed and used directly by other FactoryTalk-enabled products such as RSView.

By adding application-specific instructions, for example in motion control, programming time isgreatly reduced. Often a single instruction replacesseveral lines of code.

With RSLogix 5000, you’ll create reusable programmodules. Each time you reuse the program moduleyou simply associate it with its companion I/O andsystem data. We call this feature ‘tag aliases’.

Applications you create with RSLogix 5000 use IEC 61131-3-compliant symbolic data addressing. This, along with the ability to create user-definedstructures and multiple data scopes, gives you theability to tightly couple the Logix controller’s memory layout to the application. The result? Self-document-ed code providing an intuitive environment withimproved readability and reduced application development and support costs.

Use a Programming Environment That’s More IntuitiveBy representing the controller environment in an easily understood tree configuration, applications canbe reduced to small, easily understood parts whilemaintaining overall program organization. In a worldof ever-changing software, RSLogix 5000 tools offer a stable programming environment. RSLogix 5000complies with IEC-61131-3 programming standards. A Microsoft Windows NT/2000 environment providesdrag and drop, and cut and paste capabilities. AndRSLogix 5000 retains features common to RSLogix 5and RSLogix 500 used with PLC and SLC controllers. With RSLogix 5000, you’ll create libraries of standardroutines you can reuse on future applications.

Open Access to Project Configuration and DataRSLogix 5000 provides open access to controller configuration, project code, tag definitions and datavalues. Export project files to a formatted ASCII file, tag definitions to Comma Separated Value (CSV) files, and use the clipboard to extract and input codedirectly into the logic editor. This enables you to integrate project development with other tools withinyour organization, giving you full access to projectcontents and allowing you to automatically generatecode. Reduce development time and effort as well asthe potential for costly entry errors, leading to shorterdevelopment cycles and quicker startup.

Flexible, Easy-to-Use Programming Languages RSLogix 5000 includes support for relay ladder, func-tion block diagram, structured text, and sequentialfunction chart programming languages. Each languageeditor is fully integrated into the software. One controller project can have multiple routines of eachlanguage type.

RSLogix 5000 stores the program logic for all four programming languages, as well as tag names, on thecontroller. This greatly simplifies field maintenancesince RSLogix 5000 allows you to upload and viewlogic without having the original source program.

In addition to standard instructions, RSLogix 5000 also includes:

• industry-specific instructions for process, drive, and motion applications

• ASCII instructions to enhance your ability to manipulate, store, and send string data

• message instructions to simplify sending andreceiving data across many different devices

• sequential function chart components to structureyour application

RSLogix 5000 includes ActiveX® faceplates for thefunction block instructions that commonly requireoperator interface displays. Drop these faceplates into any ActiveX container, such as RSView™, tographically monitor your program. An optional, built-inautotune utility lets you autotune the PIDE instructionfrom its ActiveX faceplate, from its property dialogscreen, or from a custom screen in your operatorinterface application.

DEVELOPING A PROCESS STRATEGY IS HARD WORK. IT JUST GOT EASIER WITH LOGIX

Rockwell Automation’s Integrated Architecture allows manufacturers to integrate their entire plant, replacing isolated cells of activity with a single coordinated system that provides robust DCS and PLC control and improves the flow of information. This approach combines products that cross long-standing boundaries between Distributed ControlSystems (DCS) used in process applications and the PLC controls typically applied in discrete manufacturing.

Logix is unique because both of its process solutions,ControlLogix, which offers built-in process controlcapabilities, and ProcessLogix, which offers a DCSsolution, use the same chassis, communication andI/O modules. Both approaches work with RSView SEfor Process to provide an integrated HMI environment. In fact, the two systems work side-by-side, providinga degree of control and openness from a single system never before achieved. Used separately or together, you enjoy the flexibility and ease of integration of the Logix system.

Use One Programming Software Packagefor Process and Discrete ApplicationsRSLogix 5000 provides an extensive library of process functions that simplify writing closed-loopapplications. Whether you need to support cascadedPID loops, flow totalization, two- and three-statedevice control, or motor operated valves, we have

built-in functions to directly support these and otherapplication needs. All of these functions are standardfirmware instructions in the Logix controller systemand are available with multiple Logix platforms, so you won’t need to buy a special controller and you can use the same logic and software withControlLogix for large applications with thousands of I/O points or with FlexLogix or CompactLogix forsmall applications with dozens of I/O points.

Logix-based process control is further simplified by using the pre-configured operator faceplates inRSLogix 5000. You can drop these faceplates into any ActiveX container such as RSView visualizationsoftware, often eliminating the need to create customoperator screens.

Optional ControlLogix hardware redundancy modulessupport fully-redundant controller architectures withno additional programming required. Programs areautomatically cross-loaded from the primary to thesecondary controller. In addition, while scanning yourprogram, the primary controller automatically updatesthe secondary with any data changes needed to keepit synchronized. Then, if the primary controller fails, control is automatically switched to the secondarysystem. Highest priority functions are guaranteed a ‘bumpless transfer’ during control switchover, extremely important for process control applications.

12

The Logix solution for process applications offers:

• high availability solutions withbumpless switchover

• function block language for continuous applications, Sequential Function Chart language for batch applications

• extensive process function library

• pre-configured operator faceplates

• FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 configuration and integration

• wide range of analog I/O

• TUV-certified, SIL 2 levelControlLogix processors, I/O, and communication products available for safety applications

• easy integration with batch and visualization software

The function library in RSLogix 5000includes a set of drives control instructionsA Function Block Diagramming editor and the

process control instructions provide tools to easilyset up sophisticated process control strategies.Faceplates further reduce the time normally spent developing customer operator control screens.

Page 15: RSLogix 5000

Optional redundant power supplies help to assure distributed I/O chassis keep running in the event ofprimary power supply failure. And with specialty I/Omodules such as the Configurable Flow Meter Moduleand the High Speed Analog Module, you’ll be able touse ControlLogix across a wider range of applications.

DCS Solution with Integrated HMI and Control DevelopmentProcessLogix is a modular, supervisory control andnetworking system that integrates the server-basedcommon database that is typical of DCS systems andrequired for many process operations. The server isthe system data repository. The common databasestructure provides an efficient, single-source accesspoint for system information. To maintain system performance, a dynamically scheduled cache in theserver gathers all data requests, providing optimaldata access performance and memory utilizationwhile minimizing the data access load on the controller.

With an integrated database, information is enteredonce, not repeated in several databases. The serverfeatures a true client/server architecture where a

real-time database on the server provides data to a number of client applications including operator stations, third-party applications (such as MicrosoftExcel™ and Access™), and Web pages.

The server supports configuration of Fieldbus inter-face modules, H1 links, and Fieldbus devices andfunctions. Fieldbus Library Manager, an offline utility, allows you to integrate FOUNDATION Fieldbus-registered products into the ProcessLogix database. This is key to interoperability and allows you to createFieldbus device templates based on manufacturer-supplied device description and capability files.

Complete system redundancy is available using the ProcessLogix system. ProcessLogix redundancyenables a pair of ProcessLogix servers to support each other in a primary/backup fashion. Should theprimary fail, a fully functioning backup assumes theprimary role in a completely transparent fashion withnegligible switchover time. The primary propagates alldatabase transactions to the backup over a redundantnetwork so that both databases remain completelysynchronized. The backup module can be replaced on line with disrupting control of your process.

CONTROLLOGIX: THE HIGH PERFORMANCE CONTROL PLATFORM FOR EFFICIENT PLANTWIDE CONTROL

ControlLogix sets a new standard for the PLC to provide the high performance your applicationrequires in an easy-to-use environment. TheControlLogix controller, with memory options rangingup to 8Mbyte supports intensive process applications, and provides fast processing of motion instructions. The memory options allow you to specify the appropri-ate controller for your application. A CompactFlashcard provides a portable non-volatile storage program.

The high performance of the ControlLogix platform is due in part to the ControlLogix backplane whichoperates as a very fast NetLinx network. ControlLogixprocessors, I/O, and communications modules havethe intelligence to act like independent nodes on that network. As a result, multiple processors, communication modules, and I/O can be mixed without restrictions. No processor is needed to perform bridging and routing of I/O, and as your system grows, the network permits distributing control to additional chassis.

Reliability by DesignToday’s manufacturers are faced with meeting newand emerging safety standards and regulations com-bined with competitive pressure to reduce costs andincrease productivity. These manufacturers requiresafe, reliable systems to safeguard people, property, the environment, and reputations. Safety IntegrityLevel (SIL) 2 certification by TÜV makes it simpler, easier, and less expensive for these manufacturers to meet growing standards compliance requirementsworldwide.

Unlike other manufacturers, Rockwell Automation did not need to create a special line of products tomeet stringent SIL 2 requirements for its ControlLogix family. Sophisticated diagnostics and high levels of reliability are standard design in ControlLogixprocessors, I/O modules, and communication products. It’s that same, standard design that readily provides the reliability needed to achieve SIL 2 certification while providing you with exceptional savings (e.g., no additional training, readily available spares, high Mean Time BetweenFailures and processor Safe Failure Fractions).

SOFTLOGIX: PUT INFORMATION AT THE CENTER OF YOUR CONTROL ARCHITECTURE

SoftLogix at-a-glance:

• Standard Operating Systems Windows NT, 2000, and XP

• Integrated motion control

• Platform independence (whitebox, industrial computer, laptop, etc.)

• Network agility connection to opennetworks, including DeviceNet,ControlNet, and EtherNet/IP

• Customization Data access. virtualbackplane toolkit

• Support for multiple I/O platforms

• Uses the same RSLogix 5000 programming software and Logixcontrol engine as the other Logix platforms

All The Information You NeedWith SoftLogix all the information you need for analysis, display, programming and control can be placed on an industrial or desktop computer.SoftLogix5800 combines a high performance Logixcontrol engine with the power and openness of yourPC. The result? A reliable open, PC-based control solution that provides improved flexibility, connectivity and information integration.

With SoftLogix5800, you can truly link the productionarea shop floor with the front office top floor. Control, motion, Human Machine Interface (HMI), and information processing now come together in an integrated solution for lower total cost of systemintegration and increased productivity.

SoftLogix for PC-Based ControlA typical SoftLogix system starts with a virtual chassis application running on a Pentium based computer. The virtual chassis houses the processorsand communication cards that interface to other Logixprocessors as well as I/O. Application debugging andsystem start up is made easier through the use of I/Osimulator modules (1789-SIM) provided with SoftLogixfor use in the virtual chassis.

Imagine a warehouse with a conveyor loop connectingincoming materials and outgoing shipments. Dataread by a bar code reader must be compared with the MES database information, to determine the stateof a diverter switch on the conveyor for sorting materials. I/O is scattered across wide distances.Execution time and network response time is critical. The solution? SoftLogix, combined with RSView on anindustrial (such as the VersaView family) or personalcomputer. SoftLogix5800 provides the widest choiceof commercially available I/O, easily bridges the gapbetween control and information worlds, while deliv-ering a world class application solution. SoftLogix is a great option for ‘data-crunching’ applications thatalso require the making of control decisions.

Maximum Choice, Maximum FlexibilitySoftLogix allows for integration of third party networks or specialty modules through the use of the Virtual Backplane Toolkit available through the Rockwell Automation Technologies program.

Using the virtual backplane toolkit, you can integratePCI bus products to the virtual backplane and gainhigh-speed data access to the SoftLogix engine. Onceintegrated, they communicate across the backplane in real time to any other product using the same producer/consumer data exchange as SoftLogix.

Integrate Motion Control From Your PCSoftLogix5800 provides an easily-integrated, high- performance motion system with higher levels of performance than traditional PC based motion con-trollers. It executes motion commands and generatesmotion profiles directly on the native PC processor. This SoftMotion approach permits you to apply thespeed and power of today's PCs to solve the mostdemanding applications.

A Single Window For ControlThe SoftLogix chassis monitor provides a window to all SoftLogix functions, including configuring, controlling, and collecting data via optional

ControlNet, DeviceNet, or motion control interfacecards. The chassis monitor also permits processormode to be changed and allows you to view system status.

Begin by adding a new device profile for devices such as network cards or I/O modules.

Create a complete I/O device tree using RSLogix 5000to configure I/O parameters such as diagnostic data, alarm levels, and faults.

Then develop your complete control program withRSLogix 5000 or with external routines. With threeversions of SoftLogix, match your application with the most cost-effective platform.

FLEXLOGIX: SMALL CONTROLLER FOR DISTRIBUTED, STANDALONE, AND SMALL NETWORKED APPLICATIONS

20

You can choose as many as two optional daughtercards for ControlNet, DeviceNet,and EtherNet/IP. Third-partycards are also available.

FlexLogix at-a-glance:

• Adds local control to FLEX I/O to reduce wiring

• Provides a distributed architectureless vulnerable to a single point of failure

• Reduce startup and simplified maintenance because control resides close to the machine

• Uses the same RSLogix 5000 programming environments and Logix control engine as other Logix controllers

• Connects to the NetLinx Open Network Architecture for more efficient network communications and increased throughput

• Flash storage of programs on the 1794-L33 and -L34/B is included with RSLogix 5000

FlexLogix is Rockwell Automation's small to mid-rangeLogix controller, which is an ideal alternative to theControlLogix platform for certain applications, such as:

• standalone controller applications

• small networked controller applications

• distributed controller applications

• small backup processor applications

Specifically, ideal applications include RTU, smallprocess, material-handling, and press control applications.

FlexLogix uses the same Logix control engine andRSLogix 5000 programming software found in otherLogix platforms. FLEX I/O, the compact, DIN-railmounted I/O found in thousands of industrial applications, is the perfect companion to this capable controller. FlexLogix supports the RSLogix5000 function block library, making this an ideal, inexpensive multi-loop controller. FlexLogix usesNetLinx for communication to other devices on

ControlNet, DeviceNet, and EtherNet/IP. A FlexLogixsystem will include most or all of these elements:

• FlexLogix Controller

• Communication Card

• FLEX or FLEX Ex I/O Modules

• FLEX Extender Cable

• FLEX Power Supply

Simple Backup Solution Minimizes Downtime FlexLogix backup on DeviceNet offers a simple, low-cost, backup system for smaller applications requiringfast switchovers from a primary to a secondary con-troller. No additional hardware or special software isrequired. FlexLogix backup is faster than a software-implemented switchover (i.e., inhibit/uninhibit) andcosts less than a ControlLogix redundancy solution.

Typical applications include power generation, RTUsfor SCADA and small process applications. All I/O and operator interfaces to be backed up must be on DeviceNet.

FLEX I/O ELIMINATES SPACE, WIRING, AND BUDGETARY CONSTRAINTS

FLEX I/O combines a terminal strip with an I/O interface to eliminate terminal blocks and reducewiring. Today, FlexLogix supports more than 30 1794 FLEX modules and six 1797 FLEX Ex modules.FLEX I/O modules are placed directly onto a terminalbase near the device being controlled, reducing thelength of wiring between device and I/O. The compactsize of FLEX I/O enables the use of panels that aresmaller in size and are closer to the device. FLEX I/Ocan be attached directly to the FlexLogix controller or to the FLEX local adapter. FlexLogix can be locatednear the device being controlled and thus reducing the length of wiring between device and I/O.

FLEX Ex can be connected to the primary rail of theFlexLogix controller via the FLEX Ex bus isolator. Or, FlexLogix can be connected via ControlNet to FLEX Ex which mounts directly into the hazardousarea, eliminating the need for separate IntrinsicSafety (IS) barriers/isolators, long wiring runs in hardened conduit or bulky explosion proof enclosures.

The I/O options provided by the FLEX family of I/Ocontinues to expand. A number of terminal bases are available, including NEMA screw, spring clamp, fused, temperature (for cold junction compensation)and grounded.

PROCESSLOGIX: FULL DCS CAPABILITY INTEGRATED IN THE LOGIX SYSTEM

ProcessLogix is a scalable, open control system forbatch and process applications. ProcessLogix providestraditional DCS functionality by tightly integratingHuman Machine Interface (HMI) with control functions to provide a server-based common systemdatabase. The ProcessLogix solution can be easilyintegrated with other Logix platforms. It shares a common chassis with the ControlLogix platform anduses NetLinx to communicate over EtherNet/IP andControlNet to other Logix platforms, plus DeviceNetand Foundation Fieldbus for device and instrumenta-tion connectivity. Using ProcessLogix with other Logixcontrollers provides a complete plantwide solution tocontrol material handling, processing and packagingapplications in a single, integrated architecture.

Increased Reuse of Control System ComponentsLogix breaks down the barriers between DCS and PLCby providing the first plantwide control system withDCS and PLC control truly integrated. For process

applications, ProcessLogix offers DCS process controlincluding an HMI that is tightly integrated with control and a server-based database. ProcessLogixand ControlLogix can be combined into a hybrid control system, with ProcessLogix focused on processcontrol and ControlLogix providing loop control andhigh-speed discrete and motion control and for ancillary operations. Because both ProcessLogix andControlLogix use the same chassis, communicationmodules and I/O modules, the total number of components is greatly reduced. Sharing the same I/O data, both platforms can simultaneously reflectevents on the plant floor.

DCS Functionality With a PLC Price ProcessLogix blends a powerful, open MicrosoftWindows 2000-based client/server system, controller,I/O, system engineering tools and networking capabilities into a suite of features and services never before available in such a cost-effective andflexible control architecture.

28

Logix provides seamless integrationbetween server-based, controller-basedand network-based approaches to process control by having the ProcessLogix share a backplane, I/O and communication modules with ControlLogix.

Modular simplicityA ProcessLogix system is a combination of server, operator station, engineering and maintenance toolsoperating as a single, optimized system. And sinceProcessLogix uses the same chassis, I/O, power supply, communication modules and networks asControlLogix, you can easily mix and match components to fit your application.

Redundancy where you need itProcessLogix can easily be expanded to include redundancy when required, reducing the risk of aprocess shutdown due to a single component failure.

Additional ProcessLogix features include:

• integrated detail displays, custom graphics, alarms, history and reports

• integrated deterministic networking

• automatic peer-to-peer messaging between controllers

• standard and user-definable application templates

• hierarchical control development environment

• easy, high speed connectivity to other Allen-Bradley controllers, including ControlLogix and PLC-5

• fully integrated Foundation Fieldbus

• controller-based time stamped alarms

• integrated controller and field device function block control strategy development

29

Object-based graphics provide a powerful interface for the ProcessLogix user:

• Group displays are a direct result of application development and monitor the status of I/O, network, controller and PID modules. Users can use standard or create custom per-point detail displays or both, for maximum flexibility.

WE HELP YOU WITH THE MOVE FORWARD

If you’re currently using Allen-Bradley PLC-3, PLC-5and SLC 500 or Reliance Electric AutoMax controllers, you will find that Logix offers a number of featuresthat makes the move forward easy:

• a translation tool in RSLogix 5000 allows you to reuse your investment in PLC-5 or SLC 500 programs.

• Arrays may be used to create virtual data tableslike those found in PLC and SLC controllers, so those controllers can communicate to a Logix controller.

• the common look and feel of RSLogix 5,RSLogix500, RSLogix 5000 products provides you with a consistent interface to Allen-Bradleyprogrammable controllers, resulting in reducedtime, effort and expense of re-training.

• full messaging support built into the Logix controller allows you to integrate the new technology into your existing control system.

Logix platforms are the foundation for an IntegratedArchitecture. Logix delivers:

• superior reliability

• product breadth

• industry/application driven design

• OPEN technology
