Gordian Strapping has supplied a StraPack RQ-7000MV18 Tandem fully automated stainless-steel strapping system to Cooke Aquaculture at their salmon processing plant in Yell, Shetland.
Cooke Aquaculture’s seawater salmon farms are
located in Orkney and Shetland. The strong tidal
waters surrounding the Islands make them the
perfect place to rear the world’s finest salmon.
Cooke Aquaculture was already using a StraPack
RQ-7000MV18 strapper in their packing hall and
was familiar with the robustness and reliability of
the StraPack equipment. The machine was applying
2 straps to each polystyrene box of salmon.
By upgrading to the tandem version, with each
machine applying one strap simultaneously, the
packaging speed has been increased by 3 seconds
per box. This works out at a saving of 2 ½ hours per
The RQ-7000MV18 Tandem is ready to run in
under 20 seconds from start-up and has easy strap
loading with no need to remove the machine from
the conveyor line, thereby increasing up-time.
Minimal moving parts ensure that wear and tear
is reduced and operational life is increased.
Moisture protection features include stainless steel
construction, fully enclosed cabinet, side sealing
design, reinforced lower cabinet and permanent-
ly lubricated mechanisms. Furthermore, with 15
engineers across the UK, Gordian supplies
comprehensive after sales service and support.
Boxes are pushed into the machine by hand. A blue
plastic mat conveyor drives the boxes into and out
of the machine. Two straps are applied per pack.
Photo cells detect the pack position, which
eliminates the need for the operator to press a but-
ton to strap each time.
