Pledge of Allegiance: Darryl Sato 4-Way Test: Junius Jaubert Song: Scott led us in a new rendition of Yellow Submarine in honor of our guest speaker; Visting Rotarians & Guests: Ron Hodge introduced Rotarians: Minke Shanahan, Guests included former member Trisha Marshall who updated on her efforts with the Snowball Express and thanked NIRC for its support over the years. Mr. Dalal spoke of his club activities in India and invited club members to participate in an exchange program they are sponsoring which would support a 4-week visit to India and all that it offers. Announcements: Mike Shanahan, Yorba Linda Sunrise updated us on the Rotary Foundation Dinner; he chairs Dinner which is Sat Nov. 17 at Irvine Hilton. Early registration ends Sunday. He encouraged us to purchase Raffle tickets as well. Business Award Lunch is held tomorrow to honor Casey as our nominee. Plan to arrive at 11:30. Art updated us on the Bike Ride. Sponsor Booklets are finalized and ready to present to sponsors. Please contact any businesses you know who are potential sponsors. He has distributed 8,000 cards and has 2,000 left. Help get the word out. ! ! ! Sanjay said 45 students at Irvine High School have indicated an interest in the new Interact Club being formed there. Great work. . . Fine Mistress Blanca levied Art, Scott and Ron for their birthdays, Guy for his anniversary, and Sanjay and Margaret for recent events. Speaker: Jim Paddock was our guest speaker. He is from the Placentia Rotary Club and is the District Governor Nominee for 2014-15. Jim’s talk was on US Submarine Force and new developments occurring with the fleet. Their motto “Going Where Others Can’t” There are 23,000 men and women in the Force . There are now four submarine classes : The Ohio, Los Angeles, Seawolf and Virginian. Trident submarines developed during the cold war for major conflicts and massive destruction of the enemy were converted to the Ohio Class to reduce missiles. Potential enemies operate diesel subs now rather than nuclear subs; this presents new challenges for the fleet. North Korea has 53 diesel subs. New Submarines are designed for multiple missions. Meeting Speaker Thursday, October 18th Keith Rhodes, President OC Big Brothers/Big Sisters Keith Rhodes is President of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orange County. He is a Rotarian and former NFL football player. Keith Rhodes joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County as Chief Executive Officer in January of 2010. Prior to joining the organization, Rhodes served as Executive Director of Boys Town California. He comes to the organization with over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Prior to working at Boys Town, Rhodes was the CEO of the Methodist Children’s Home in New Orleans. He has worked with abused and neglected children in various levels of residential care for 20 years. Keith holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and a Masters of Science in Criminology, with an emphasis in Juvenile Delinquency and Domestic Terrorism, from Grambling University. Rhodes is a gang specialist, certified through the Federal Bureau of Prisons and National Institute of Corrections. He has worked with counter-drug task force and gang suppression teams in 87 cities over the past 20 years, and also trains federal, state and local law enforcement worldwide. Keith Rhodes, President OC Big Brothers/Big Sisters

Keith Rhodes is President of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orange County. He is a Rotarian and former NFL football player.
