RI Convention – Bangkok, May 69 ROTARY MINUTE: Cecil Hess reflected on his first Rotary project on a “handson” service trip to Ensenada. Their visits to an elderly home and foster home left a strong impression about the value of service above self. Speaker Bob Fish introduced Dr. Robert Piccioni who presented “Einstein for Everybody”, his 75 th Rotary Club visit. For most people, Einstein is the mind behind E=mc2 winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1921. But what few people realize is that Einstein failed at almost every endeavor he tried through his life leading up to a Miracle Year in 1905. In a span of just seven months, he published five revolutionary papers solving all open Physics questions of his time. His papers proved Brownian Motion, that atoms exist. The Photoelectric Effect ; Laser Theory ; The Theory of Relativity ; and of course E=mc 2. Asked how he made so many discoveries where other scientists failed, Einstein’s response was simple. “It’s not that I am so smart, it’s that I stay with problems longer”. He never quit. He was known to work on problems day and night, sometimes for years until he found the solution. All his insights came from pure thought, he never conducted experiments, or made measurements of any kind to arrive at his theories. Dr. Piccioni ended his presentation on the future of energy use in the US, which consumes the equivalent of one ton of mass energy each year. In terms of various fuels needed to create this energy that’s 5B tons of Coal, 2B tons of Gasoline, 50k tons of Nuclear Fission or 133 tons of H Fusion. We currently use the first three and deal with the unwanted emissions. H. Fusion offers vast energy output Next Meeting Thursday, April 26th...
