About The Types of
Catholic Wedding Ceremonies
There are two forms of Catholic wedding
Liturgy:
The Wedding or Nuptial Mass:
Often referred to as a “full Mass,” it is the
celebration of the Mass with the wedding
ceremony inserted in the middle of the
Liturgy. It presupposes both parties are
practicing Catholics and receiving Holy
Communion after a proper spiritual prepa-
ration.
The Wedding Ceremony:
This has all the elements of the above
(music, readings, vows, etc.) but without
the celebration of Mass. This form is suit-
able for general congregations and is of
shorter duration than the above.
PLEASE NOTE: Nuptial Masses are
NOT celebrated on Sundays. The ONLY
exception is when a visiting priest is
invited by the family, approved by the
Pastor and is willing to offer a Nuptial
Mass on Sunday.

Respect Life Sunday ~ Sunday, October 4
As we celebrate Respect Life Sunday, we are reminded that the assaults on human dignity
come in many forms. The Office of Human Life, Family and Bioethics is charged with deepening
our already strong commitment to pro-life activities and parish education.
Please support this vital work through participation in the special Respect Life envelope
collection. Your prayers and assistance are greatly appreciated.

DAILY OFFERING PRAYER -
God, our Father, I offer You my day. I offer You my prayers, thoughts, words, actions, joys, and suf-
ferings in union with Your Son Jesus' Heart, Who continues to offer Himself in the Eucharist for the
salvation of the world. May the Holy Spirit, who guided Jesus, be my guide and my strength today so
that I may witness to Your love.
OCTOBER: The Laity’s Mission in the Church - That by the virtue of baptism, the laity,
especially women, may participate more in areas of responsibility in the Church.
The Apostleship of Prayer is a worldwide association of Catholics and
other Christians who strive to make their ordinary, everyday lives apostolic-
ally effective. Through the Apostleship of Prayer, the Pope gives his monthly
prayer intentions to the entire Church. For this reason, the Apostleship came
to be known as "the Pope's own prayer group."

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
The Place for Learning and Praying
Our Family/Children’s Mass is Sunday at 9:30AM
Mary Donaldson, Director Rita Minder, Assistant
Religion Office Phone 864-3321 Fax 499-1530 [email protected]
CONFIRMATION
Confirmation Day is Tuesday, October 20, 2020. There will be two sessions—one at 11AM
for students whose last name begins with A thru L and one at 1:30PM for students whose last name begins
with M thru Z.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES
Registration forms for the upcoming Winter Program (November 2020 thru April 2021) are
coming in at a slower pace for students in grades two through eight. Summer 2020 is fading and school has
begun. Let us not forget to return to Religious Education. It is important that you return those bright pink
forms as soon as possible either by dropping them off or mailing them in. If you don’t have the registration
form, you can come into the Parish Center and pick one up or call and we will mail you one. We are
beginning to put children into classes which begins in five weeks.
Due to continuing concerns/regulations re the coronavirus, we have altered our class sched-
ules. Classes will begin on Monday, November 2, 2020. The sacrament years grades 1,2,7&8 will be here
in the Parish Center building with social distancing and appropriate hygienic measures. Grades 3,4,5&6
will be a home school program where a parent or guardian will teach only their own child/children in those
grades. All students whether being taught here on site or at home must be registered so they get credit for
this calendar year.
Student book pick-up for the home program is the week of October 5th, Monday thru Friday,
11AM to 4PM down in Msgr. Goggin Hall.
TEACHERS
While I realize that it is still summer-like weather, we are looking ahead to the 2020-2021
Winter Program that begins on Monday, November 2nd and runs through the end of April 2021. Teachers
are always needed. At this time, we are looking for new people (men and women) who would like to join
our teaching staff. If you would like to teach, please contact the Religion Office.
PHOTOGRAPHS
Rosemary Femia, the professional photographer who takes the pictures for Confirmation and
First Holy Communion, can be reached at this number (631) 586-0833. She will be in the breezeway for
viewing of sacrament photos on the following Thursday nights—Nov. 5th, 12th, 19th, Dec. 3rd and 10th
from 7-9PM.

You can make a difference in the lives of those around us
by making a gift to this year’s Catholic Ministries Appeal
Because of you, every year we serve more than 600,000 people in our Long Island
Community. This support enables our children to continue to receive the gift of spiri-
tual formation, sacramental preparation, and quality education. It allows seminari-
ans and lay leaders to fulfill their calling to serve the community. With your support,
Catholic Charities can maintain its services for the poor and disadvantaged, and we
can continue to reach out to our young people and others to find the best ways to
guide and pass on our faith from generation to generation.
To make a donation or for more information about the Catholic Ministries Appeal, please visit
https://www.drvc.org/donate/CMA/ or call us at 516-678-5800 ext. 296 or call Jack Maccio at

At this time, the Parish has resumed accepting clothing donations.
The St. Vincent De Paul clothing donation bins are now open.
October 4 - Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
The good news of this Gospel is that all we need to do is let God tend us and
bring us to produce good fruit. All we need do is be faithful; God will take care
of the rest.
Please help the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to bring the love and
mercy of Jesus to those who feel left out and abandoned.
The St. Matthew’s Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society would like to extend their
gratitude to our parishioners whose donations allow us to help our neighbors.
A neighbor who has received support from our conference sent us a thank you card. In it she
says, “I would like to thank you for all you have done. Thank you for when I went through a hard-
ship in my life and family life. Thank you for the blessing that is/was bestowed on my family. God
bless you and your ministry.”
Here I am again, trying unsuccessfully to come up with something to
uplift our spirits. We hear, “when will this be over? I can’t take it anymore!”
Admittedly, these are very trying times and we yearn for what was once
normal. Our patience is on its last nerve. While we are coping with
nothing to do, and all the time in the world to do it, how about thanking God
for what we have, and really showing love and patience for each other and
especially those who have little or no understanding as to what this is all about. I hope you will
enjoy the following:
For Friends of the Exceptional
1. Blessed are you who take time to listen to difficult speech, or failing eyes, for you help us to
know that if we persevere, we can be understood.
2. Blessed are you who walk with us in public places, and ignore the stares of strangers, for in
your companionship we find havens of relaxation.
3. Blessed are you who stand beside us as we enter new and untried adventures, for our failures
will be outweighed by the times we surprise you and ourselves.
4. Blessed are you who never bid us to “hurry up“ or snatch tasks from our hands to do them for
us, for often we need time, not help.
5. Blessed are you who ask for our help, for our greatest need is to be needed.
6. Blessed are you when by all these things, you assure us that the thing that makes us individu-
als is not our imperfect speech or sight, nor our defective hearing or in our difficulties in learn-
ing, but in the God given self, which no infirmity can confine.
7. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad and know that you have given us assurances that could
never be spoken in words, for you deal with us as Christ dealt with all His children.
This was composed for the deaf, but I feel that it can be applicable to so many infirmities
both physical, mental and even those suffering from dementia.
Pray for everyone and especially our country. It seems like Satan is still dancing. Let’s see
if we can stop his music.
See you in Church,
Pat

tremendous amount of food to families in need. Our

Dear Rosarians,
Fr. Hewes has said we can pray the Living Rosary in the Main Church
on Tuesday, October 6th, at 7pm, followed by a socially distanced
meeting in Msgr. Goggin Hall with refreshments. What a wonderful time
to begin again, in the month of Our Lady of the Rosary!
We will plan a November Auction/Raffle with baskets and gift cards we
have already prepared, and we will discuss the possibility of an ex-
panded committee of officers.
For those who cannot join in person, please unite with us spiritually as
we beg Our Blessed Mother for help in our Country and our Church in
these most difficult times.
As we enter into Autumn, stay safe and well. May Our Lady keep us close to the Sacred Heart of
her Divine Son.
Love and prayers, Patricia Bissex

DASH is a 24/7 voluntary program for individuals in a crisis situation who
are feeling overwhelmed due to substance use, mental illness and/or other
life stressors. The program features a mobile response team of
licensed professional experts who will come to your community and
conduct an assessment, develop a safety plan, and if necessary,
recommend outpatient services or a higher level of care. DASH also features a crisis hotline that
provides telephone triage, clinical assessments and therapeutic support.
This unique facility, run by Family Service League, is a beacon of hope for Suffolk County children
and adults who are struggling to cope and serves as an alternative to an emergency room. The
center at 90 Adams Ave, Hauppauge, is open 24/7 (although during Covid it is advised to call
first.) FSL’s DASH Crisis Stabilization Center & Hotline open 24-Hours, 7-days a week!

Keeping the American Republic with Its Judeo-Christian Values (cont.)
As he walked out of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Benjamin Franklin was asked,
"Dr. Franklin, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” He answered, “A republic, if you can
keep it.”
The principles of American Judeo-Christian values honor God-given Life and Liberty and are the
foundation-stone of our Republic.
Foundational values include:
#3. Since God gives life, all human life is especially precious, "The Lord called me from the womb;
from the body of my mother he called me." (Isaiah 49:1)
#4. Since God gives Liberty, all rights such as Freedom of Religion and Freedom of Speech are
God-given.
#5. The Family is critically important and the "building block" of society with parents responsible
for raising and educating their children.
#6. In a Republic, power rests with the citizens and the representatives they vote for, thus sup-
porting a limited central government.
(1)
As Catholics obliged to contribute to the public good, we are called to support the principles and
public policies that preserve these values. It is our responsibility to think carefully and decideO
Am I able to look beyond partisan interests and personalities to support policies which:
Protect the sacredness of life at all stages
Assert the right to praise God and practice our faith openly without fear
Support the right to freely assemble for prayer and other peaceful purposes
Empower parents to choose the best schoolOpublic, private, religious, charterOfor their children
Ensure the right of Americans to voice differing opinions freely, without censure or retaliation
Preserve life and liberty through the rule of law and order
Secure our borders and safety in accord with Pope Francis’ statement on Jan. 22, 2017, that,
“Yes, every country has the right to control its border, who comes and who goes and those coun-
tries at risk from terrorism or such things – have even more right to control them more.”
