About The Types of
Catholic Wedding Ceremonies
There are two forms of Catholic wedding
Liturgy:
The Wedding or Nuptial Mass:
Often referred to as a “full Mass,” it is the
celebration of the Mass with the wedding
ceremony inserted in the middle of the
Liturgy. It presupposes both parties are
practicing Catholics and receiving Holy
Communion after a proper spiritual prepa-
ration.
The Wedding Ceremony:
This has all the elements of the above
(music, readings, vows, etc.) but without
the celebration of Mass. This form is suit-
able for general congregations and is of
shorter duration than the above.
PLEASE NOTE: Nuptial Masses are
NOT celebrated on Sundays. The ONLY
exception is when a visiting priest is
invited by the family, approved by the
Pastor and is willing to offer a Nuptial
Mass on Sunday.

For all those who work and live from the sea, among them sailors, fishermen and their families.
The Apostleship of Prayer is a worldwide association of Catholics and
other Christians who strive to make their ordinary, everyday lives apostolic-
ally effective. Through the Apostleship of Prayer, the Pope gives his monthly
prayer intentions to the entire Church. For this reason, the Apostleship came
to be known as "the Pope's own prayer group."

August 2 - Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
In the Gospel, Jesus says: “There is no need for them to go away; give them some
food yourselves,” and taking the five loaves and two fish, he blest them and gave
them to the disciples to feed the crowd.
Know that your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to help those living in
poverty touches many lives just like the loaves and fishes.
The St. Matthew’s Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul
Society would like to extend their gratitude to our parish-
ioners whose donations allow us to help our neighbors.
A neighbor who has received support from our confer-
ence sent us a thank you card. In it she says, “I would
like to thank you for all you have done. Thank you for
when I went through a hardship in my life and family life.
Thank you for the blessing that is/was bestowed on my
family. God bless you and your ministry.”

Hi Everyone,
Anything exciting going on? Yeah, me too. An exciting event these
days is a trip to the doctor and occasionally the supermarket. I hope everyone
is following the recommendation of masks and social distancing.
I did have a very enjoyable visit to the beach last week. We went at
about 7 o’clock. That’s an ideal time because it is cooling off a little. We brought our chairs, sat in
the sand, and enjoyed people watching until it was time for the sunset. It was spectacular!!
Something to do with the African dust storms. Try to get out and do something like this to lift your
spirits. The North Shore is the best for the sunsets. Many of us have difficulty walking in the sand.
In that case, sit on the boardwalk and enjoy your escape from the house for a few hours. We are
so fortunate to live here on the Island. Think of those in the crowded cities.
I’m glad to see that more people are venturing out to attend Mass. This is a good thing and
all social requirements are followed. Come back when you are ready and feel secure. Your
reward is being able to receive the Eucharist.
Now down to business. As of now, the trip to Woodloch Pines in September is on. I am
asking for the $60 per person bus fare to be paid by August 15. Please make the
check payable to me or cash, it doesn’t matter which. I will let you know of any
changes.
Remember to pray for all those who are ill and for their loving caregivers.
Pray always for our church, our country, police and fire departments and all first
responders. Pray for an end to this deadly virus and the wickedness gripping our country. God
Bless America.
See you in Church, Pat

My Dear Parishioners,
I am sincerely and deeply grateful to you for the enormous
amount of food that you have donated these last several
months. It has been a tremendous help to so many people.
In fact, the number of people that have requested food during these months has increased 10-fold.
Fortunately, because of you these families have received adequate food for themselves and their
children. Some of them even cried when they received the food as they were so touched by your
kindness. I always tell them to pray for the donors.
May God bless your great generosity and kindness to others. Sr. Kay McCarthy

Singing, Bible Study, Fellowship & Worship Banned - Again!
A network of California churches filed a lawsuit in July against Gov. Gavin
Newsom after he re-imposed a coronavirus lockdown with orders against holding church services
and bans on singing, chanting and all private home religious gatherings. "We've been essential for
2,000 years," said a CA Pastor, Che Ahn.
(1)
"Newsom encourages tens of thousands of people to gather for mass protests,
(but) he bans all in-person worship and home Bible studies and fellowship. Such repression is
well-known in despotic governments and it is shocking that even home fellowship is banned in
America," said Matt Staver, chairman of Liberty Counsel. "This outrage will not stand."
(2)
Gov. Newsom is not the only governor unconstitutionally restricting church activi-
ties. Federal lawsuits are also pending in Courts of Appeal against Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, and
Virginia. However, federal courts around the country are split on whether religious liberty protec-
tions of the 1st Amendment will stand during a pandemic. It is troubling that court in New Mexico
recently ruled against the First Amendment.
Defending Religious Freedom
"Gathering, in short, is at the core of faith and religion. ... This time of restriction and confinement
has confirmed for me that no freedom is more important than religious freedom," said Elder David
Bednar of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. "Protecting a person's physical health
from the coronavirus is, of course, important, but so is a person's spiritual health. ... Never again
must the fundamental right to worship God be trivialized below the ability to buy gasoline."

Silent No More!
The Bishops of the United States remind us that, “In the Catholic Tradition, responsible
citizenship is a virtue, and participation in political life is a moral obligation.”
(4)
Elected officials and their staff listen to, read and tabulate citizens’ concerns and opinions when
making decisions for their state and for the country. Do not be silent. Please contact one or more
Senator or Congressman each week to encourage those who share your Catholic values and to
inform others. *Call Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to be connected to any Representative or
