Our Classroom Rules1. Speak courteously to others.

2. Raise your hand and wait to be recognized before speaking.

3. Enter the classroom quietly and be seated.

4. Actively listen and follow directions given by all adults.

5. Stay within your personal space.

What happens when I choose to follow the rules?

• Verbal Recognition

• A stress free learning environment

• A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere

Consequences For Breaking The Classroom Rules

• Non-verbal/Verbal Warning• Demerit on Data Sheet—record of behavior• Phone Call Home, Written Assignment and/or

Time Out if necessary• Loss of Activity Bell—Daily total of demerits

is 3 or more• Detention—DAILY total of tallies is 5 or more• Parent Conference

Severe Offense• Any student who uses profanity, fights,

damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), will be referred to the office IMMEDIATELY.

You should always…

• Follow our classroom rules, procedures, and guidelines.

• Be prepared to learn. • Be prepared for class. Bring with you to class

everyday your pencil/pen, paper, notebook, and silent reading book.

• Read your silent reading book during silent reading.

• Ask questions!!!! There is no such things as silly questions.

• Be courteous and respectful to your fellow classmates.

• Use lined paper.

Entering the Room

• Please enter quietly

• Have a seat

• Take out your materials

• Review the agenda

• Begin bell work assignment

To Get Your Attention

•I will: – Stand in front of the class

– Raise my hand

– Wait for everyone to be quiet

– Begin speaking

What should you do when I’m trying to get your attention?

• 1st- Clear your hands of any materials

• 2nd- Stay still

• 3rd- Look directly at me

• 4th- Be prepared to listen to what I have to say to you

To Ask a Question

• Raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged.

• Once I call on you, ask your question.

• Wait until I respond to your question before you begin to talk.

• I want to hear your questions, but I can only answer one question at a time.

During a Class Discussion

• PLEASE participate • I want to hear what you have to

say • Make all questions and comments

relevant to the current discussion • If your question is off the topic,

write it down and ask later

Moving Around the Room

• You must ask permission

• Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency

Turning in Your Work

• If it is a group assignment papers will be passed to your left.

• Each person will pass their paper one person and the last person will hand them to the teacher.

• If the assignment is individual you will be given time to turn them into the bin on my desk or hand them to me.

Distributing Materials

• If we are using materials from the cabinets we will:– Teacher will go to the cabinet and get the

materials out– The student in each row closest to the cabinet

will get enough materials for his/her row– Materials will be passed out at each table in the

same way as papers are when turning them in

Exiting the Room• Make sure that your desk is cleared of any

materials. • Look around your desk and pick up any trash

from the floor. • Take all the materials that you will need to

your next class. • Line up in the line quietly. • No one should ever talk while in the line.

Using the Restroom

• Each class has a scheduled time• We only use the restroom at this time• You MUST have your agenda to use the

restroom• If you don’t have your agenda you will not be

given restroom privileges that day• Teacher must sign your agenda as your pass

Restroom Guidelines

• Use the restroom before you come to class in the morning

• You will not be given another chance until 11:15 AM

• Student needs to clean up after using the bathroom

• Student needs to wash hands with soap after using the bathroom

• Student needs to leave door open when finished

• Student needs to report any problems (graffiti, big mess etc) to teacher BEFORE using the bathroom

Hallway Procedures

• Line up in alphabetical or teacher assigned order

• Line up quietly and quickly• Walk on the right of the hallway• Stay silent• Keep hands and feet to yourself• Do NOT touch the walls

Lunchroom Procedures• Enter silently• Line up as instructed• Get your breakfast or lunch• Go directly to your assigned table and quietly

sit down• Eat your meal• Wait until dismissed by adult

Locker Procedures• At your locker, you must get your

materials and immediately sit down

• You may go to your locker only at the following times:

• Beginning of the day

• Before lunch

• At dismissal

Locks• Your locker is to be locked at all times.

• If you want a lock, it must be a combination lock and I must have the combination

• I will not be supplying locks

• Anything that is in your locker or missing from your locker is YOUR responsibility.

• KEEP YOUR LOCKER LOCKED AT ALL TIMES!!

Book Bags and Purses

– Book bags must be stored in your locker at all times.

– Purses must be small enough to fit into the book bag and kept in your book bag or desk at all times

HOMEWORK– You will be assigned homework most nights– You MUST turn homework in when it’s due– If you miss 3 assignments you will be assigned

a detention

• You enter the classroom silently, take your seat and begin the bell work

• Ask a question? • To ask a question you raise your hand and wait to be recognized by

an adult

• Get up to sharpen my pencil, throw something away or anything else?• You will raise your hand and wait to be recognized before you get out

of your seat for any reason.
