CLOCHE HAT SEWING INSTRUCTIONS Hi from Sydney Australia I have used photos from various hats, to demonstrate how to sew your cloche, so please imagine that it is all in the one fabric please, until I have time to complete my photos all in the same thank you. This hat pattern has been developed to be sewn in thick fabrics

Here are the instructions on how to sew up your Roaring Twenties Cloche, it is a sectional hat with brim. Please follow the photographic instructions Please note that the side seams are 3/8” or 1cm. Cut out fabric pieces and iron on interfacing to the wrong side of the brim fabric. • You are going to sew up 2 sets of 3 pieces each, which will then give you 2 halves

of a hat that get sewn together later to make one whole crown consisting of two halves.

• • Firstly you sew 2 crown pieces together, (following seam allowances).

• • Then make sure to press the seams open flat first before you proceed further

before sewing on the 3rd piece on to the previous 2 pieces already sewn, otherwise you will have problems later on.

• • sew on the third piece, iron open the 3rd seam, trim back sticking out ends • • You can topstitch on the out side if you like to as an extra trimming and to help

the seams lay flat. Topstitch on the outside gives you more detail on a plain fabric.

• topstitch on the outside • Now do the same as above for the other 3 pieces, so that you have 2 halves of

your hat each consisting of 3 pieces each You now have 2 halves; consisting of 3 pieces each, with the seams ironed open flat.

• Now you put the 2 halves of the hat together and sew right over the top in a half circle from one side of the hat to the other to form 1 whole crown

• do the same as above for the lining but leave 1 seam open a little bit 1.5 inches

to turn the hat right side out later on • Fuse one of both sides of the brim on the wrong side and sew up the centre back

seam of both brim pieces following the seam allowance given

• • Place the two completed circle brims and pin together, matching the centre back

• • Now turn the brim to right side out and iron flat and baste the raw edges of the

brim together

• • To attach the brim to the main hat we will mark centre front by folding the brim

and the crown in half, and then into half again, using the centre back seam on the brim as your folding point. Make a creased mark with your finger or the iron, which we will match to marks made in the same manner on the main hat.

• folding into quarters, using the back seam as your starting point • Matching pressed quarter marks when you sew the brim to the hat. • With it marked down the centre front, and then match that mark to the centre

front on the front of the hat, (deciding whether, you want a seam to be your centre front, or if you want your centre front to be in the middle of a panel) then attaching the brim to the hat by sewing with marked seam allowance.

• Put the right sides of the lining to the right side of the hat and sew them together

with seams allowance, then turn the hat to the right side out, through the opening in the seam.

• Put the right sides of the lining to the right side of the hat and sew them together with seams allowance, then turn the hat to the right side out, through the opening in the seam.

• • • Whip stitch the opening back together again, and iron your hat nice and flat • Your hat is finished, then just trim it with ribbon or topstitching on the brim,

whatever takes your fancy, or if you want the hat to have a band on it like just make a band to go around your hat, in the desired width of your choice, and join it onto the back seam with a few hand stitches when finished.

• Make sure to iron it really well, to make the finished job look really professional. Let me know if there's anything not clear and I will help you Make sure to use thick fabric for this hat, as it was designed for thick fabrics, otherwise the pattern will have to be adjusted. Best Regards Sue
